About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Nov. '24 in Deer Lodge

This beautiful property was exactly as described. 3 nice bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms. Fireplace worked well. Family used the hot tub two evenings. The chainsaw carvings on the deck were a nice touch. Kitchen and dining table were nice for 7 guests.

Yosemite Backpacking Stay

My group and I had just spent 5 days in the Yosemite backcountry backpacking. We booked the house as our reward for a VERY tough and VERY dirty hiking trip. We were delighted when we got to the house. It was charming, had enough showers for all of us, and best of all…a hot tub! We loved our stay. Just a few items I would recommend to the owners: allow laundry on site, install air conditioning (it got up to 86 degrees inside) and provide shampoo/conditioner.

LOVED IT!

Our stay was amazing! So close to everything you need. And a bonus with all the bathrooms! Very cozy-loved the fireplace-used it every night. Comfy beds-and clean jacuzzi to be in and look at the stars.

Cabin

I felt that the property was a little bit over priced for what it was. It is a large, spacious, clean home and nice home but a bit to pricey compared to other places I've stayed that are similar.

Nice location and decent cabin

The cabin was nice for our party of 7. We enjoyed having cozy fires and meals around the large table. The hot tub was also nice after long days of walking and hiking. It was also nice to be near some trails that weren't busy with other travelers.

Stay at Deer Lodge 93R

The cabin was very spacious for a group of 8 (2 families) . Private bathrooms in each bedroom was definitely a plus. The beds were good. The kitchen had all equipment that one would expect. The lack of AC did not bother us as the nights were cool. The hot tub was a nice bonus and used in the evenings.

Disappointing!

The neighborhood is run down, if we sat on the porch at the front door we had to look at a debilitated structure and half the fence was on the ground. I chose the place for the family and I was immediately embarrassed. Driving into the area was disappointing. Upon arrival outside chairs were scattered and outside tables dirty with bird droppings. Inside I sat on the hearth of the fire place and my pants were dusty. Whomever cleaned only pushed the cloth around the items did not really clean. However the bathrooms and kitchens were clean. No air conditioner!!!!! This should be highlighted in the lack of amenities on the website. We could not use the barbecue. It was grimy with food and the inside top of the lid painted coating was peeling excessively and would have been worried that the chips of paint would have fallen into the food. This was very disappointing since there was no air conditioner and we had to cook inside. This is the first time trying VRBO we usually use another provider I do not believe I will try it again.

Quiet Clean and Easy

We had such a wonderful visit to Yosemite in Wawona. It was nice for 2 families to have a shared space to hang out and it was amazing to just step outside at night and view the stars. It was very easy to get around the southern part of Yosemite and since we were in a house it was very relaxing. We had an issue with the water at 11pm and someone came quickly to take care of it. So the management was very responsive and courteous. I would highly recommend the house to anyone looking to find relaxation in Yosemite.

Loved the cabin disliked the Management company

I have been renting homes for 30 years and this was the best stocked kitchen ever. House is lovely and well laid out. The management company did not have the cabin ready on time. I think 4pm checkin is too late especially when you can’t get it until 4:30pm. I think 10am is a rediculous early time for checkout. The hot tub should be serviced before and after a visit. The hot tub guy came each day with no notice and it seemed like he was snooping

An absolutely gorgeous home. So roomy and comfortable.

We have been to Yosemite numerous times but had never stayed in Wawona. We would stay here again. This house is a perfect vacation home. Especially in the summer. Great proximity to all the spectacular views, hiking trails, and the valley floor. It's great to be able to get away from all the people in the valley.

Close to Yosemite Valley

The facilities are close to Yosemite Valley, which is what you are paying for. There are few other options, so if you want to be this close you need to pay the price. The cabin was acceptable and the customer service people were not. But again, there aren't many other choices if you want to be in the park but can't get a room at the Valley itself.

Heaven on Earth

I have been coming to Yosemite, almost every year since I was a teenager . I camped when I was younger, and about 15 years ago I discovered the Redwoods in Yosemite. I've been staying here ever since. The homes are comfortable and clean and we have found 2 or 3 that are our favorites. Now I come up with my family and grandchildren, passing this great tradition on through the generations. We love the swimming holes along the river, looking at the stars at night and just spending time together. This year we had a couple of deer that would come visit out house everyday. I've already made reservations for next summer, and can't wait!
