The vicinity to the beach was exactly what I wanted. The house is in very nice shape for a home of this age, with many modern upgrades. The fact we could have our dog come with us was one of the biggest deciding factors for me. It was kind of a spur of the moment decision to take a trip ( about 2 weeks) and honestly can't believe there was availability on such short notice for 7 night's. Would not hesitate to consider coming back. The restaurant at the pier is a short walk, and the food was great.

Last minute vacation….totally worth it

Big Blue House was wonderful! The response time when we had an issue with the heat was quick and friendly. We loved the location and the proximity to restaurants, fishing and sights. We loved our last minute vacation and would absolutely stay there again!

Big Blue was Great!

Excellent experience with our 4 night stay, exceeded our expectations. The home was everything we had hoped for, and more. Very large house, well maintained and clean, right on the beach. We liked the location, has a local feel unlike Virginia Beach oceanfront. We hope to return again soon!

We Love The Big Blue House

This is our 2nd year staying here. Our family loves everything about it. The beautiful, clean house and the location being a short walk down to the beach. Also, love being close to the Pier for fishing and dining. We had an issue come up and reached out to Quinn and he was quick to respond to help us. Our son-in-law loved the new top of the line grill they have. We had everything we needed to make our vacation perfect!! Hoping to come back next year!❤️

Beautiful big blue house!

The property and home are both beautiful! Such a neat property and very comfortable to spend time in. We had such a great time staying at your home, despite some very rainy and windy weather that mostly kept us indoors. I loved the beautiful beach views and the restaurant at the pier was fun! It was a little difficult to tell how many rooms/ beds there were at the property from the listing, but we were pleasantly surprised with the rooms and layout. The only thing that was a little tough to work around was the bathroom doors on the second floor, there are 3 doors to enter the bathroom and the door to the hallway and the door to the kids room were difficult to keep shut. I do think you should add photos of the outdoor area with the grill, such a fun surprise upon arrival to see the outdoor set up. We had a great stay and were thankful to find your property!

Nice beach vacation

This historic house was gorgeous on the inside. We would love to know more history of the house! The furnishings were very nice and comfortable, The Kitchen and porch were highlights. It was perfect for our large family group and the kids loved the beach right out the back door. On the downside,the grounds needed a lot of attention. The yard was a mess with lots of junk lying around and 3 rusty unusable bbq pits. We had to buy one to grill out. It would take 1 good weekend and a dumpster to clean up the yard to make it deserving of this beautiful house. One other downside was the neighbor on the east side was a junky automotive business. It was junky and they had a very bright light that shone in the windows all night. The laundry room and supplied amenities were great and the beds were so comfortable. All decorating was beautiful. We had a great time Thanks!

Gorgeous and Relaxing

Bob B. The home is as advertised. Appliances are up-to-date and well kept. We took full advantage of the wrap around porch. We probably spent more hours on the porch (watching the sunrise and the ships) than we did in the family room which has an up-to-date TV with all the channels could possibly need. Kitchen is well equipped to cook in. We baked, fried and griddled our breakfasts in everyday to start our days slow and ramped up from there. With the ocean literally feet away my family made time for the beach everyday. My wife and I came with our family, 2 adult children, their spouses, three grandchildren and two dogs. Plenty of room for everyone with the home and property is very child and pet friendly. Finally as a host, Deborah was very responsive to any questions or needs we may have had.She was a delight to deal with and made our stay in Norfolk that much more enjoyable.

Very disappointed

We left 3 days early because we were so disappointed. You need to understand that the house is over 100 years old and is showing that. The bathroom on the second floor has three doors… You can’t close more than one at a time. The house is next to a junkyard which is a real eyesore and is on a very busy highway. The beach is not a good walking beach if you walk barefoot… Which I do. I would not recommend it unless you know what you’re getting into. I am not wasting anymore time on this property.

Family Get Together

My husband and I rented this charming home for a long weekend in October to visit my husband's 90 year old brother and family that live locally in Norfolk. Typically when we visit we stay at a hotel in Norfolk...thankfully, it was all booked up and I found this gem of a place instead. Could not have picked a better place to gather and will definitely book this historic home on Chesapeake Bay again. The wrap around porch was an amazing feature. We spent our mornings on the porch having coffee overlooking the bay and afternoons and evenings leisurely reading or having a cocktail. And, with beach access from the house, we were able to take get daily walks in. The kitchen has a gas stove, which is a plus for me, and I was able to cook two big family meals without lacking for any cookware ( I did bring all of my own spices with me). Additionally, there is a drip coffee maker as well as a Keurig depending on your preference. A large dining room table was able to accommodate all ten family members I hosted for dinner. Despite the home being built in 1917, there is ample hot water and the water pressure was amazing! Most importantly and the biggest plus about this rental was the host, Quinn. She was in communication with us throughout our stay, just to check to see if everything was as expected or if we needed anything at all...we didn't... but just to have such a communicative host was so appreciated!! Thank you, Quinn for sharing this lovely home!

Our stay was perfect. The rocking chairs on the big, beautiful porch are the perfect place to escape reality while you watch the waves roll in and the big ship glide by on the horizon. The seabirds provide the ideal amount of entertainment. The interior of the house is the perfect blend of a bygone era and modern day conveniences. The house was 5-star clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the food, drink, and live music at the pier next door. Communication with the host was easy and welcoming. We had no problems during our stay, but felt confident that they would have been addressed immediately based on the accessibility of the host. We look forward to booking our next stay soon!

Dream come true

The pictures do not do this place justice. Every detail of this home is captivating- an architectural dream. Quinn did an amazing job keeping the authenticity of the home with some appreciated but appropriate upgrades. You want for nothing in this home- everything is well thought out and organized. Plenty of space for all of us! The teens loved the little hideaway on the third floor, the moms loved the porch, and the dog misses the wind in his fur. This was by far one of our family’s best vacations. Beautiful home and the one of the most hospitable owners!

Walking on the beach, swimming and our daughter’s family likes to fish off the pier.Quinn was very responsive when we had an issue with the washer. He got it repaired quickly. What a gem!

This property is amazing! The best part about it is the location. Right on the beach next to the pier that has a restaurant. We loved it! The house is great, it has lots of space and a barbecue in the garden. The pictures don't do justice. The communication with the manager is fantastic; they were ready to resolve any issues immediately (they even sent us a high chair for our baby to sit with us at the table, as our portable high chair could not fit the tables in the house). We will definitely be back. Thank you so much for a wonderful time!

Winter wedding anniversary retreat

Vintage Charm and modern comfort

This house is gorgeous! The updated and moderness of the kitchen and baths was just enough without taking anything away from the vintage, old world charm. The house was clean, had many ameneties and little touches that were appreciated. I look forward to staying here again!

This property was built during the early 20th century. This house was used as an officer's quarters during World War II. General McArthur actually stayed in this house at one time.
Aside from its history, it is only steps from the Willoughby Beach. The view from the back porch is spectacular, especially the sunrises! You will be amazed at how close you are to the water. It will be an experience you will not forget!

What makes this property unique

Prime location in Hampton Roads Virginia. The house is located on Willoughby Spit next to a fabulous fishing pier and restaurant. Downtown Norfolk is 15 minutes, Virginia Beach front is 30 minutes, Hampton is 15 minutes, Newport News, 30 minutes, and Colonial Williamsburg is 45 minutes away. If you want to take a day trip to Charlottesville and visit Thomas Jefferson's home, it is worth it! It is 2 and 1/2 hours each way.
