LOCATION
Cooler weather is on its way. The StoneHaus cottage with its quaint shaded back yard is easy access for a walk to the Alamo and downtown. Morning coffee on the front porch is relaxing and an evening glass of wine on the backyard garden is soothing and delightful.
This historic family-friendly private home includes free gated parking. Other area attractions in close proximity include the San Antonio Riverwalk, Scottish Rite Center, Tobin Center, The Majestic Theater, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Sunset Station, Hemisfair Plaza, and the Alamodome. The Pearl district (an amazing bevy of walkable stores, restaurants, and entertainment) is within a short drive.
HISTORY
Known as the Engelmann-Muench House, this cottage was built in 1858 by Martin Engelmann, a wealthy German immigrant. The caliche block vernacular double house sits on a site which was once part of the Alamo farmlands. The structure is a good example of a once-common San Antonio house type and features original built-in end chimneys.
If you explore the neighborhood, you will find a new bar scene developing with Road Map Brewery, La Roca, Bentley's, and more. Of course, restaurants and food trucks are in close walking distance on North Alamo, Houston St and the Riverwalk. Made Ready and Idlewild Hall are our newest food/drink stops to try as well. Don't forget to sign up for a ghost tour. There are several options from which to choose....Sisters Grimm is my favorite.
