About this property

Gorgeous Georgian apartment in the heart of Edinburgh's City Centre.

The apartment is beautifully decorated and is packed full of Scottish fabrics, original Scottish paintings and drawings, warm colours and heaps of personality. It's a great base from which to explore Edinburgh on foot, and once you're worn out from a great day of shopping or sightseeing there's a fab kitchen in the apartment and a wood burning stove for a cosy night in. For the more energetic just dump the shopping bags, get the 'glad rags' on and walk a few hundred yards to some of the best bars and restaurants that Edinburgh has to offer. After a few nights here you're almost guaranteed to feel Scottish and you certainly won't want to leave!
You enter the traditional 'shared stair' at pavement level and make your way up the original, stone steps to the apartment door on the 2nd floor (the top). There are two bedrooms; one very large and one large. Both rooms can be set up either as twin beds or double beds (Super King size and King size). The beds are naturally 'Luxury Hotel' standard. The master bedroom has a lovely dressing table with an illuminated magnifying mirror for the ladies.
There is a very well equipped large dining kitchen with oven, hob, microwave and everything you need to cook up a feast! It also includes a dishwasher, washing machine and digital radio.
The Lounge is beautifully decorated and features a wood burning stove and original fireplace. There is wifi, digital cable TV and a Bluetooth speaker for your entertainment and the side board is crammed full of fun board games for a lively night in! There is also a sofa bed available in the lounge for larger groups.
The bathroom is a warm and welcoming room with its large tub, big traditional shower head, stone tiles, warm colours and the all important under floor heating!

Ideal apartment for a family stay

This apartment was ideal for our family, having all we needed and is located close to the centre of Edinburgh. The host was proactive with communication and was very helpful in making arrangements ahead of our arrival. The check-in arrangements worked well and were straightforward. The apartment is attractive inside and made for a very comfortable stay for our family.

Superb apartment in central Edinburgh.

Apartment was very clean and spacious. One of the few with a king sized bed. Main tourist attractions within walking distance. Great pub across the road and wine bar next door. Host was excellent communicator and provided all the food basics and some special treats too. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful stay! Perfect location and had so many great places around us. I slept so good every night. Beds are so comfortable! My only complaint is there were no diamonds in the gift basket as promised 😉

Spacious apartment in great location

A large apartment ideally situated close to Princes Street and the castle. Great communication from the owner. Probably not best suited for anyone with mobility issues. Some minor maintenance issues but these did not affect our stay and the owner is to resolve.

Great apartment for 4 adults!

Very nice stay overall with plenty of room for our group of four adults. It does sit overtop of a bar/restaurant and across the street from a (very good) pub. In early May, the noise wasn't too bad but there were some late night noises to go along with some early morning traffic noise. As it gets toward summer and busy season, we could see that being more noisy. It is hard to sleep too late though since the sun rises so early. It is an easy walk to get to the center of things but can be quite a walk to get to an area like Holyrood and Arthur's Seat. Sometimes we walked, once we took a cab to save time. Kitchen has everything you need although we didn't cook much besides toast as we were out and about pretty early each day.Maciej (host) was great! Extremely nice and polite and very communicative. He proivded a welcome basket too. We had a smoke alarm chirp one morning. I let him know I took it down and he came to replace the battery mid morning. You will need to keep in mind that there is a single bathroom with tub/shower which can sometimes get tricky on timing in the mornings. Water pressure was great though. One of the things we all noticed was how great the water was not just here but all over Scotland. We're used to hard water but this water is nothing like that and it just tastes better. Seems weird to comment on but we all noticed it. It was very warm so recommend having varued options for bedding (thin options vs. a single winter-grade blanket.) Great stay overall

Cozy Edinburgh City Apartment

Our apartment was bright and airy. We were greated with fresh cut flowers, bread, milk and butter-nice treat. Our beds were clean and comfortable. Our stay was for four nights. Our apartment was very close to all of the downtown Edinburgh attractions. A two minute walk to the tram.

The nicest apartment I’ve ever stayed in!

After climbing three flights of stone steps we were delighted to find the most beautiful, spacious apartment, really close to the castle. It’s an old stone building with high ceilings and the flat is beautifully decorated with everything you need for a fantastic stay. It’s so close to everything including restaurants and shops. I Hope i get to stay here again!

Great accommodations and close to everything!

Had an amazing time with clan. We were 5 adults staying in this flat and it was perfect. Very clean and comfortable. Extra touches as we checked in were really a nice touch (milk, butter, bread and fruits). Communication Was easy and the host was very accommodating. Would recommend 100%.

Awesome flat!

So nice and homey, yet nice and updated with all the amenities you need. Great location; very clean and close to restaurants & sites. We loved the flat overall! The bread, butter, coffee, fruit & sweets were an extra plus! Just an FYI: Would not recommend for anyone with physical limitations: My 80 year old Mom is quite spy, but the 3 sets of steps were a wee bit difficult.

Lovely stay

Really pleased with the accommodation and felt it good value. Close enough to all . sites and amenities but in a quiet area, away from the crowds. Not having to buy things like washing up liquid, loo rolls, milk, tea and coffee, etc were a bonus. The property was easy to find and getting through the front door was hassle free. Public transport is about 100m away from the flat and is frequent

Even better then the pictures!

This flat was the perfect place for myself, my husband and our teenage son for a short stay in March. There was plenty of space, lots of essentials included and even a few welcome items like milk and bread. The flat is beautifully decorated and it was in a great location to explore Edinburgh and within walking distance to lots of shops, restaurants, and a little grocery store. A couple things to note - the pub downstairs can be a bit noisy at night and the flat is up on the third floor with no lift - although these things weren't a problem for us. Highly recommend!!

Wonderful place to stay

My family( my husband and two teenagers) and stayed in this flat for three nights while visiting Edinburgh. The flat was a short taxi ride from the downtown trains station, although we found out Haymarket was a five minute walk from the flat. We loved the proximity of the flat to Downtown , pubs and restaurants and the Castle. We walked everywhere. We were also pleasantly surprised how quiet the flat was, given there are three pubs within 400 feet on the flat. All great places I must say. The only issue with this flat for some people may be the steps. There are several flights, but the climb is worth it. We just thought of it as extra exercise. The property owner was great to deal with and provided us with all types of information about the area! Nice touch. We had a lovely stay in this flat and hope to return to Scotland in the future!

Great location and great host

We absolutely loved staying in this beautiful flat on our recent stay in Edinburgh. The location was perfect, a short walk to old town to take in all the events going on during Fringe but tucked just far enough out that we were able to get a sound sleep. LOCATION: The street it is located on has the cutest shops and restaurants including a fantastic little wine bar below, a bustling café we grabbed breakfast at and a little wine shop and deli for some evening snacks and drinks. If we were staying longer we would have also popped into the florist. There was a Sainsbury’s local right around the corner for basics. There is a tram stop a very quick 2 minute walk from the front door. FLAT: The flat itself is gorgeous and filled with natural light, it is beautifully and comfortably decorated, we loved the large-scale artwork, it felt like we were staying in a boutique hotel. It was also very clean and fresh. The shower was clean with excellent pressure, and the nice deep bathtub would have made a great spot to relax, if there had been time. The beds were very comfortable, especially after a long day of exploring the city. Having a washing machine and a dishwasher were appreciated features, the last thing I want to do on a vacation is wash dishes and the washing machine was an excellent feature for us on a multi-city tour. There were also tons of interesting titles to read and games to play if you’re looking to spend more time in the flat during your visit to Edinburgh.

Wonderful flat!

Our family of 5 (including 2 teenagers and an 11 year old) spent 4 nights in "The Snug" in May, and it was wonderful! Andy, was very welcoming and eager to help. He even allowed us to drop our luggage off early so we could get started with our site-seeing. The flat was very clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It was the perfect "home away from home" for us as we visited the lovely city of Edinburgh. The Snug is located 2 floors above a bar. So, on a Saturday night with a soccer (football) game on TV, it can be a bit loud late into the evening - but only if you are in one of the rooms at the front of the house. We actually liked listening to the people enjoying the game and hearing the "culture" of the city. However, if you need it quiet , closing the window will cut down - but not eliminate - the noise. Our children, who slept in the room at the back of the apartment, didn't hear anything, and Sunday through Tuesday night it was very quiet. The flat is very conveniently located and is within walking distance of the castle and Princes St. There is a local grocery store as well as plenty of places to eat and shop very close by. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would gladly stay here again if we are ever able to return to Scotland. We highly recommend this lovely flat!

About the host

Host profile image
I've been involved with property in Edinburgh for 12 years and have always loved Georgian and Victorian architecture with all it's grandeur! I have renovated and upgraded many original Edinburgh properties but the 'Snug' is my first Holiday Apartment and I absolutely love it. I live a short walk down the hill from the apartment in an old townhouse in Stockbridge with my wife Rebecca and our 2 little boys. If I ever need a quiet sit down I sneak off to the Snug and hide!! My father in law is a famous Irish poet (Michael Longley) and my sister in law is a well known Scottish/Irish painter and most of the books are Michael's collections and the art on the walls are Sarah Longley originals or sketch work from her bigger collections. Also, if you'd like a kilt made whilst you're here - my brother in law is a kilt maker!!

Why they chose this property

The West End of Edinburgh is a hidden gem of a place, full of boutique shops, delis, coffee shops, proper pubs and restaurants and it just so happens to be less than 5 minutes walk from Princes' Street. It's such a great location that as soon as I saw the apartment I knew it had to be shared! Doing interiors is one of my passions and I was able to cut loose on the William Street Snug with Georgian colour schemes and gorgeous Scottish tartans and tweed textiles and original Georgian walls are ideal for hanging great art!
