Comfortable 18th century village house situated at the heart of the village of Quarante, in quiet no-through road. A gated, cobbled passageway, wide enough to garage a car, leads from the street to enclosed Mediterranean-style courtyard with small pool(5m x3m), and terrace area. The house was fully renovated in 1999 and is well maintained.
Quarante is a lively, attractive village -shops, cafés, restaurants etc - set amidst gently rolling hills, vines, pine woods and copses. An ideal base for discovering this infinitely varied and beautiful region. Mediterranean - nearest beach Vendres about 20miles/33 kilometres

Quarante

Spacious well appointed property. Open air eating area by pool is always shady but pool has sun most of the day. It is a very nice courtyard area. The property is In centre of village with boulangerie and Boucherie close by. Also within walking distance (15 mins each way) is a restaurant, Le Terminus serving plain but good food - chips and grilled meat/fish and Tapas- in the open air under trees.

Lovely relaxing location to explore the area

What a beautiful property with the bonus of a pool to cool off in after a day exploring the Canal Du Midi. Sarah was the perfect host, friendly and informative but on no way intrusive.

Lovely house in a peaceful location

We spent a lovely two weeks at this fantastic house. The property had everything we required including plenty of clean towels and linen, along with many extras most notably the large games room and pool. Sarah was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The surrounding area is picturesque with some lovely walks, also beautiful beaches only a short drive away. We would be happy to recommend this property.

Amazing!

We had an amazing time in this lovely holliday home! Thank you for Sarah to be so considerate and available during our stay! One tip would be to add some solar lamps in the garden so that it does not get to dark in the evening.

Our Quarante Gem

We had a wonderful vacation in the historic town of Quarante. As we had grandchildren staying for some of the time, the pool and gamesroom were truly inspiring and kept everyone entertained. The layout of rooms could be improved, and beds might be updated. Sarah was very helpful with suggestions on the local sights. Quarante was a perfect base to explore the Canal du Midi towns.

Magnificent Traditional Village Home

We spent a wonderful week in this fantastically equipped French home. It was our first visit to the Languedoc region and it was great to return to the comfort and tranquillity of the house after a day sightseeing. We particularly enjoyed the ambience of the courtyard and cooking on the BBQ after cooling down in the pool. Quarante is a lovely, quiet village with everything you need on your doorstep and the bonus of being able to walk to a very good restaurant - Le Terminus.

We spent 10 beautiful days at Sarah's house in Quarante. The house was even more beautiful than the pictures make it seem. The house is bigger than expected and overall very clean. The playroom is a highlight for children as well as adults. We didn't have the pleasure to meet our host, Sarah, in person. However, she asked a friend to welcome us and guide us through our stay. Unfortunately there are many little things that add up to only 3,5 stars: The lock of the bathroom door (which is located in the center of the house and therefore offers privacy only trough that door) is broken. You either spend a lot of time trying to get out or you give up an leave the door open. The washing machine was full of mold so that we needed to buy special cleaning supplies to remove it. The sea is far more away from the property than 20min (as suggested by the host) you need 45mins with your car. The biggest problem, however, are the pigeons. Both the stairs in front of the house and the backyard including the pool were full of their excretions. Sarah's friend asserted it was a fairly new problem... Nevertheless the dirt war everywhere and sitting outside was not very pleasing. Every time you entered the house dirt followed you. On top of that some of the pigeons died on the lot. We were then asked to remove them ourselves... That is why we spent a lot of time cleaning. Despite of the beautiful architecture, the overall cleanliness and our friendly host, those inconveniences lead to our rating of only 3,5 stars.

Hi Margaux, I'm so sorry that you had a bad experience. We had just recently evicted some pigeaons from our loft space which obviously had the unexpected result of them hanging around on a ledge over the front door waiting to be allowed back in. With the onset of colder weather the problem is reducing slowly as the pigeons are moving on and finding new shelter. I'm so sorry too that you had to deal with some dead birds - unfortunately I was away and couldn't come and deal with them myself. It is regrettable that I was away during this time otherwise I would have cleaned up for you. More than anything I am very distressed that you found the washing machine full of mould, as I like to keep a very clean and tidy house. I have been to the house to see about the lock to the bathroom door, and can see that the lock has become a bit sticky, so thank you for letting me know about it (I never lock the bathroom door when am I there cleaning, so I was not awre of the problem). When people ask me how far away the beach is from Quarante I always tell them it is half and hour: I have never told anyone it is 20 minutes away; on the site I think somewhere it is mentionned that the coast is about 20 miles away (when we started renting our property, our publicity was with a UK company that was later taken over by other international companies) - I wonder if this is where the 20 minutes idea comes from. Apologies again for a sub-par experience.

Wir hatten eine sehr schöne Zeit in Sarahs Haus. Sarah hatte tolle Tipps für Märkte und Ausflüge, so dass wir viel Freude daran hatten, die wunderschöne Gegend zu erkunden. Das Haus ist sehr gemütlich und so richtig zum Wohlfühlen, der Innenhof hat immer Schatten, so dass wir dort auch sehr heiße Tage entspannt verbringen konnten. Unsere Kinder haben viel Zeit im Pool verbracht und die Abende waren mit Tischtennis, Dart und Billard gefüllt. Wir würden immer wieder kommen. Vielen Dank Sarah!

Wunderbar

Wir haben unseren zweiwöchigen Sommerurlaub im wunderbaren Haus von Sarah im kleinen Dorf Quarante verbracht. Das Haus lässt keine Wünsche offen und ist genauso sauber und gepflegt, wie auf den Fotos zu sehen ist. Sarah selbst, ist eine sehr freundliche und stetig, um das Wohl ihrer Gäste, bemühte Vermieterin. Sie hat uns oft mit hilfreichen Tips und Informationen zur Seite gestanden. Die schattige Lage der Terrasse an der Kirchwand und der super gepflegte Pool waren zu dieser Zeit des Jahres in Südfrankreich einfach Gold wert. Wir waren wirklich sehr zufrieden und kommen gern wieder !

Gemütliches Haus mit viel Charme

Wir verbrachten eine Woche mit unseren 3 Söhnen und unserem Hund bei Sarah. Das Haus ist sehr groß und prima ausgestattet. Die Betten sind bequem. In der Küche findet man alles was man braucht. Das Haus war top sauber und liebevoll eingerichtet. Unsere Jungs haben den Pool genossen und jeden Abend Billard gespielt. Auch bei hohen Temperaturen von weit über 30° kann man im schattigen Garten angenehm sitzen. Um den Pool findet sich genug Sonne zum Sonnenbaden. Sarah war sehr aufgeschlossen und freundlich und hatte viele gute Tipps für Ausflüge in die Umgebung. Vielen Dank für eine tolle Woche in Quarante.

Extraordinaria casa en un pueblo tranquilo

Hemos estado 7 días en la casa de Sarah y nos ha encantado, Sarah es una persona muy amable y simpática. La casa es grande y tiene todo lo necesario para pasar unas buenas vacaciones, la piscina es perfecta y gozas de total intimidad en ella. Tiene una sala donde podrás jugar al billar al pin, pon y a los dardos. Está cerca de puntos de interés como Narbona,Beziers, y a una hora de Carcassonne. Totalmente recomendable. Heerlijk verblijf in Frans dorpje

We hadden een heerlijke tijd in dit fijne Franse dorpshuis. Het huis is erg ruim en gezellig. Drie slaapkamers met erg goede bedden. Een fijn en schaduwrijk terras met zwembad en buitendouche. Parkeerplaats voor de deur in een brede doodlopende steeg. Het huis blijft ook op warme dagen koel en aangenaam. De speelkamer werd bijzonder gesmaakt. Alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig. Een stevige Franse en Engelse bib voor als je je boek vergeten bent. Ook een ruime collectie dvd's. Sarah is super vriendelijk. Ze zorgt voor een proper en onderhouden zwembad. We hadden een heerlijke vakantie en vertrokken met spijt in het hart.

Schönes Haus und schöne Umgebung

Wir waren mit unseren beiden Töchtern(14 & 17) und unserem Hund für 2 Wochen Ende Mai in dem liebevoll eingerichteten Haus und haben dort eine sehr schöne Zeit verbracht. Das Wetter war sehr gut ( 22°C bis 27°C und meistens sonnig), so dass wir auch den Pool an manchen Tagen genutzt haben. Sarah ist eine sehr freundliche Gastgeberin und immer zu erreichen. Das Haus ist sehr gepflegt und die Lage war für uns perfekt, da wir sowieso nicht jeden Tag an den Strand möchten, sondern auch gerne mal die Umgebung erkunden. Bis zum nächstgelegenen Strand sind es gute 30 Minuten mit dem Auto. Bèziers und Narbonne erreicht man in ca. 20Minuten. Quarante ist ein hübscher, kleiner Ort, aber alle wichtigen Dinge (Metzger, Bäcker, kleiner Lebensmittelladen) sind vorhanden. Im ca 7km entfernten Capestang gibt's einen Lidl und einen größeren Supermarkt. Ein besonderes Highlight waren für uns die Tischtennisplatte und der Billardtisch. Vielen lieben Dank, Sarah...wir kommen gerne wieder!

Tolles Haus!!!

Wir haben zwei wundervolle Wochen dort verbracht! Das Haus ist einfach nur toll und wir konnten super entspannen! Der Pool war für unsere Kinder das Highlight! Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.
