Yes, There Are Mini Donkeys! Peaceful Mountain Cabin Retreat
Secluded Smoky Mountain Cabin Near a 65-Acre Bison Ranch
Tucked away in the peaceful mountains of Western North Carolina, this cozy log cabin retreat offers the perfect balance of seclusion, adventure, and one-of-a-kind ranch experiences.
Just three minutes from the main ranch at Buffalo Creek Vacations, this private getaway invites guests to slow down, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and reconnect with nature.
Legend has it that on certain nights of the year, when the moon is just right, the Buffalo Creek bison and their llama friends sneak away from their usual stomping grounds in search of a little peace and quiet. Their favorite place to relax? This tranquil mountain hideaway.
Whether the legend is true or not, one thing is certain — this is a place where relaxation comes naturally.
Wake Up to the Smoky Mountains
Start your mornings watching the sunrise over the mountain peaks as the mist lifts from the Smoky Mountains. Then head over to the ranch viewing platform to watch the herd of buffalo come in for their morning oats at the feeding corral — an unforgettable experience for guests of all ages.
Back at the cabin, enjoy a quiet morning with coffee or cocoa on the large front porch, or unwind in the private hot tub after a day of exploring the mountains.

My family spent an amazing two weeks at Bison Escape. We loved it so much that we immediately booked it for the same two weeks next year before we even left.
The house was perfect, location was pretty close to everything. The grandkids had a blast feeding the donkeys and goats with food that was left for them. We had a great time made many memories
Awesome secluded cabin. Super friendly owners with a quick response time. Bison meat was phenomena! Over all a wonderful stay, hope to be back one day!

Really enjoyed our stay. The property is well laid out and has plenty to do for all age ranges. Donkeys, goats & sheep to serenade you and interact with. Bison feeding and viewing is about 1mi away, and was fun and informative. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful as well. Overall the farm is just a ton of fun for the whole family.

Very nice cabin, very nice & quiet location.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was very nice, clean, and quiet. Very relaxing. We went to Cherokee one day and Asheville the next, it was only a 45 minute drive to both. The owners were easy to get in touch with and really helpful. On the day we were leaving our battery was dead and we were stuck in the driveway. They came out to help us. Great cabin, great location, great owners, great experience.

So incredibly amazing!
When I showed my kids the cabin I chose online...they were super excited!!! They just loved the idea of being on the bison ranch. Our cabin was clean & super cozy & decorated so tastefully!! The cousins all enjoyed the game room & every night was spent in the hot tub by the adults!! We will make this a yearly tradition! The folks at Buffalo Creek were really friendly too!! We met Harold, he fed the bison & then his wife I think, (Harriet was her name), rides the tractor & she got us the bison meat. Every time we had a question, Cheryl responded very fast. We will surely be telling our friends about Buffalo Creek Vacations. Thanks for making it possible to make lasting memories!!

Family friendly with Easy Access
PROS: Plenty of space, very comfortable bedding, in-house entertainment options for entire family, nice hot tub
Cons: Odd living room seating with no end tables; Poorly maintained pots and pans; lots of "fees" and extra duties like taking the trash down the road
Loved the beds and the local horses are very friendly. This was a great base of operations to the local shops and not bad to Asheville/Biltmore area. Never were able to see bison and in spite of name, they never come to the Bison Escape property. (We even tried to see them at feeding time as suggested but they were no where to be found.)

Dear Robert,
Thank you for taking the time & leaving us feedback. I apologize about the endtable in the living room not being there, it got ruined & we pulled it out to fix it. We just opened in July, so I am surprised our pots are already ruined, we will replace them as soon as possible & I appreciate you letting us know. I am also sorry you never saw the bison. Not sure if it was raining when you were there, that is the only time we do not feed them.
I am glad you enjoyed the rest of our amenities & your stay.
Sincerely,
Cheryl

Liked: Check-in, communication, listing accuracy
Disliked: Cleanliness
Spring break vaca.
Pros: Happy with the beautiful scenery that surrounds this roomy cabin. Donkies, goats & cows greeted us Upon arrival. Kitchen well stocked with everything needed to cook a good meal. Hot tub was nice.
Cons: bathrooms were very dirty. Suite master bath has mold surrounding the tub and hair everywhere. We all used the shower in upstairs room. That shower was dirty too. Hair everywhere. Dust and dirt throughout the entire house. Floors were dirty. Large sofa is broken so we couldn't sit on it. Just the chase and round chair to sit on. Sofas had dog hair and crumbs from someone eating on it. Towels smelled funny and are torn. Cabin needs an upgrade and good cleanup throughout. I paid alot of money to stay here and I was a bit disappointed that have to pay so much money for cleaning. But the job isn't done properly. But We made the best of our stay.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Buffalo Creek Vacations. We strive for 5 stars & I am sorry about the items you listed. We will address those asap. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
We enjoyed our time at Bison Escape. The goats and donkeys that surround the property provided lots of entertainment. (Added bonus-witnessing the birth of a baby donkey!) The cabin was as described-actually much larger than expected. I wish it was closer to the main property. We thought we would be able to walk/hike to the main property but you would have to walk along a main road with lots of traffic so we had to drive. Fishing in the river near by is a no go (too much current and no real area to fish). The stocked pond that is several miles up the road and was recommended, was expensive and did not allow for catch and release. However, they did recommend a park (Max Patch) up the mountain which was actually quite beautiful- Had a pond for fishing and a trail for hiking. The drive up it a bit nerve-racking but that’s the mountain life!
My negatives-the game room had a dart board but no darts and the foosball table needs some work. The upstairs shower had some mild mildew present in the shower (in the cracks of the surround) and the curtain rod would not hold tension so when you pulled the curtain back it would occasionally fall. The washing machine had a lot of rust to the inside surround so you had to be cautious when washing clothes. Nothing major or that would prevent me from recommending this property.

Thanks for taking time to leave us a review & feedback. WE had major storms the past week prior to your arrival which caused the Pigeon River to come up over the road. The area everyone walks down to the river is to the left of the main ranch where there is a pull off to park. I'm sorry if it was still too high when you were visiting. That only happens @ once a year! I will check on the issues you mentioned & I appreciate you for bringing them to our attention.
Cheryl
The staff is nice and attentive. They left animal feed daily for kids to feed goats, donkeys, etc. Really nice retreat with all you need. The kitchen is fully equipped and well organized, everything is labeled. Nice and comfy play room also.
We had such an incredible stay with Buffalo Creek’s Bison Escape. The house was awesome, the staff was incredible and the whole experience was just phenomenal. We can’t wait to go back. Actually we didn’t even want to leave. The Donkey coral was so cool having them in our front yard. They were so excited to have friends over, they are so friendly. The animals on the farm are so well cared for it was a joy to see all of them. I recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in Maggie Valley/Clyde area. Easy access and such an amazing place

From the moment my family walked into this beautiful log cabin, we fell in love & we all agreed it will be a yearly tradition! The attention to detail was impeccable! Everything was done so tastefully. The kids enjoyed looking up at the stars while in the hot tub. We had hours of fun w/ challenging games of foosball & darts! Grandma even one once!! The s'mores every night created memories for my kids that they will cherish for a lifetime!! I can't forget to mention to go see the bison feeding! Wow...what magnificent creatures they are!! You are right there next tom them!! Great time was had by all & we are already thinking of what week to come back next summer! "This is the Best Place We Have Ever Stayed Mom"
Stayed here for two nights with my family right after Christmas. This log cabin in the woods (but not far from civilization) was decorated for Christmas and had all amenities from home and more. The wood burning fireplace and hot tub were perfect for the cold nights. The game room was equipped for everyone from toddlers to seniors. Dart board, pool table, air hockey, barbies, puzzles, toy cars, popcorn maker you name it. We had wifi and TV. Horses in pasture in front of house. Goats in pen next door. The adult kids (20s) and my teen son went fishing in the pond nearby and took walks in woods. The house was huge and spread out so it fit this party of 7 and 2 dogs comfortably. We also invited 9 of our local relatives up for dinner and to enjoy the game room and there was so much for everyone to do that night. Again the house was so huge that even with our dinner guests there was plenty of seating and we never felt crammed in. I highly recommend this place. My 21 years old daughter said, This is the best place we have ever stayed mom."

Perfect for two families
When we needed a nice quiet escape from reality with our families, my best friend and I looked no further than Bison Escape. The cabin was perfect for both the adults and kids. We enjoyed the secluded location and playing in the Pigeon River right down the road. Easy drive to Waynesville for groceries. We were able to go to Asheville, Maggie Valley and Cherokee for day trips. The addition of the two goats on the property was a delight for our kids. Cheryl was very responsive to any requests. The week ended way too early for us!

Bison Escape does not disappoint!!!
Once again Cheryl, we had an awesome vacation. Enjoyed watching the deer and turkey in the neighboring field. Very comfortable, peaceful cabin to get away from it all, but close to Maggie Valley, Cherokee and Asheville. We also spent one day in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I hope to see you again next year when we come back. Next year will mark 5 years we have been visiting!!!!!! That says it all.
Thank you again -- Beth.

Great cabin with lots of amenities!
Very comfortable and secluded cabin. Lots of privacy; close to the main farm. We loved seeing the bison getting their breakfast oats. There were 2 horses pasturing in an area directly next to our driveway (not owned by Bison Farm), and we had a great time every day feeding them apples and carrots through the fence. They were our dear friends by the time we left!!! Loved the hot tub, the front veranda and luscious views into nearby meadows. Very relaxing...

Great family retreat
Excellent cabin! Great customer service! It was very quite and secluded but still reasonably close to asheville, maggie valley and Cherokee. We went to watch the Bission get feed, definitely a must! Cheryl even provided a small amount of firewood, perfect for an evening or two of Smores. The game room was great, the kids loved it. The hot tub was very relaxing, just make sure to check the temp as soon as you get there. It is cleaned and refilled after every stay so the temp is most likely adjusted down. The playground is neatly tucked away in the woods just down from the top of a hill. It is a good play area and the hike was not to bad. I'm pretty sure the OLDER KIDS (adults) enjoyed the scenery more. Will certainly be back.

Loved it!
We loved Bison Escape! The cabin had everything we needed, plus homey extras that made the initial "move in" easier. The main floor master was perfect for the grand parents and our 3 teenagers had plenty of space in the kid's room. Having a master bedroom upstairs and down stairs was perfect for our family!
I was impressed with the game room - even when we had music playing in there, the main part of the house couldn't hear it!
The location is perfect for visiting nearby attractions. We enjoyed day trips and made it home for dinner almost every night.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the buffalo!...and the goats and bunnies and horses and llamas...The kids (and adults) got a big kick out of feeding and petting the animals. We really enjoyed watching the bison get their breakfast, we even got to see a little rough-housing one afternoon (actually, it looked like they were playing tag!).
I highly recommend Buffalo Creek Vacations, we are looking forward to returning!

Fantastic!
We has a great time! Cheryl was very helpful when we booked the vacation, answering all our questions. When we arrived our two young kids didn't want to leave the cabin at first (the game room was great, and even has a pet cage if you bring four legged family members) but we finally got them to head up to the feeding coral and watched the bison eat breakfast, then they fed the goats and mini horses before the short hike up the hill to the fun playground.
The setting is very rustic and peaceful, with good views and a very smoky mountain feel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the cabin had all the modern conveniences without losing any of its rustic charm. The rooms are large, the beds comfy, and the outdoor space at the cabin is great! We will be returning soon, and bringing friends this time! Highly recommended!

My brothers & my husband had shared a vision of expanding my fathers buffalo ranch when additional property became available to purchase. With all our knowledge & experiences combine we have built 4 log homes & have been renting them out since 2007. Bison Escape is located just 1 mile down the road & we just purchased this property in 2015 so we can welcome more guest to the beautiful area. Once my husband retires from the US Army in a few yrs our dream will be to build our log cabin on the property & be more hands on. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!
What makes this property unique
While staying at Bison Escape we feel you will really enjoy the peace & tranquility of being secluded on 7+ acres. Also, with the ability to enjoy all the amenities at Buffalo Creek Vacations, a 65 acre ranch, just 1 mile down the road, we feel children & adults will all love seeing the bison, llamas, miniature horses & goats.
