Absolutely amazing and lovely people to deal with, the best bnb experience I've ever had! Sharron and Gary went over and above to make sure we enjoyed our stay from the minite we booked to the day we left... They gave us local tips as for things to do with our kids on a rainy day, left us Fijoas and even brought us some eggs! We felt well and truly spoilt, the house is so homely, comfortable and has everything you need! Plus the location is unbeatable!!! I would highly recommend anyone to stay here!

This is possibly the best place we have ever rented. Fantastic location for our beach play, immaculately clean, tidy and well organised. Lovely hosts, suited our family of 4, 2 teenagers, perfectly.
WELCOME to our beach home which is only a 30seconds walk to the white sands of Wainui Beach. Great for swimming, surfing, walking or doing absolutely nothing. Take your coffee or breakfast to 'Gary's seat' in the reserve opposite, which looks South to the old lighthouse and north to Makarori headland.
We value our neighbours - by all mean relax on the deck with a wine but no parties or constant loud noise please.
Our home is private, comfortable, and quiet. A place you can totally relax in:
in summer enjoy the shade of large pohutukawa; cruise in the shelter of the back terrace on the swing seat. In winter our heat pump will keep you warm and cosy. No matter what the weather you'll find a space to retreat to.
We’ll even throw in body boards, learner soft surfboard & a beach umbrella.
Our house is suitable for children. In addition to the beach the primary school playground next door will keep kids happy for hours.
A reserve across the road feels like an extension to our property!
The house is situated on the front of our section. We also have a 1 bedroom cottage at the back, behind a high fence, with its own private entrance. This is permanently rented. Only the driveway is shared.

About the host
Hosted by Gary and Sharron Stevenson
Hi there, Nice to meet you. So a bit about us... we have lived in Wainui, Gisborne since 1980, when we purchased a small 1 room batch on our present site. With only a ‘long drop’, a tap attached to a corregated iron water tank and a 3 month baby we slowly built our house. Three more sons later we eventually had a comfortable home.
Once the boys had left, in 2011 we decided to travel and began housesitting in Australia and then England. Once we were on the other side of the world we decided to explore and so purchased an old van and drove to France. We just kept driving - for a year we travelled Europe and Morocco, clocking up 23, 000 miles.
After returning to NZ for a couple of years we again went back to UK, lived and worked for a year in beautiful Cambridge where we housesat various places.
We then purchased a more upmarket Motorhome and off to Europe we went again for 16 months.
We returned to NZ, imported our home on wheels and spent some years enjoying exploring our own country.
In 2022 we purchased an RV in the USA and spent 6 months a year for the past 4 years visiting various states, culminating in a 5 month trip to Alaska in 2025. We sold the RV and are now looking forward to more adventures …somewhere

Why they chose this property
Gary was raised at Makarori Beach, is a keen surfer since age 8 and we both love the beach, We value the close knit community feel here and the laid back beach lifestyle.
What makes this property unique
Ever changing views of beach and ocean. Protection from strong onshore winds but with the same view as homes beach front due to the beach front reserve opposite us. We love taking our coffee/lunch/dinner across the road or setting up the umbrella on the beach and being close enough to pop back to the house for ammenities.
