About this property

Cozy Historic Cabin Retreat - visit trails right off of the farm. Pet Friendly.

The “Redhead Tom” log cabin, a beautifully restored mountain dwelling dating from the early nineteenth century. Spend cozy evenings next to the woodstove after hiking the trails of the Big Ivy section of Pisgah National Forest. The cabin is set under shade trees overlooking a meadow that joins the forest. You can relax on the porch and listen to the mountain stream at the edge of the farm. We also have a bungalow that sleeps at least 6 and can host events such as workshops or retreats if you want to share your visit with family and friends. Our event space is a separate building with lots of possibilities for your group event. Bring your boots, fishing pole, mountain bike, horses, dogs and kids - whatever makes this visit the best it can be. We are at the farm next door to help with anything you might need.

If you would like to schedule an event here we have a 1000 square foot open space that can accommodate classes, workshops, catered meals for groups. The farmhouse on the property can be booked along with the cabin to accommodate more of your group and we have other rentals very nearby we can refer you to if you fill our spaces. Let's discuss your plans and how we can help you create a wonderful event

You can rent the Boundary End Farm Bungalow for an additional space to sleep 6 or more. Check it out at VRBO# 736395. Rental for the event space is not listed on VRBO but we are happy to discuss it and send pictures.

Pure Peace

There is definitely something very special about this place from the blue birds to the sound of the creek to the funny goat, TukTuk. The cabin is so lovely and cozy. We were lucky enough to stay a week. I could stay forever

lady bugs and leaky roof

The cabin is great and I do understand that it is very old and has been restored. We loved the atmosphere but there was a problem with lady bugs in the cabin and when it rained really hard there was water leaking onto the wood stove and on the night stand beside it. I would recommend this rental especially if you have family or friends renting the house next door.

Cozy and quiet

Sweet old cabin that was rebuilt to be very comfortable but still quite charming. I had everything I needed. I enjoyed walking around the farm and over to the National Forest property just across the road. I was alone but felt secure. The peace and quiet was just what I was looking for.

Perfect Thanksgiving Getaway

We spent 2 days over the Thanksgiving holiday in the cabin. It was perfect for our family of 3 and our 2 dogs. The location and property is beautiful and close enough to Asheville just in case you want the “big city.” We will definitely be back!

Looking for a perfect getaway look no further

My husband and I stayed here for a short honeymoon after getting married in NY. The property is absolutely beautiful! The cabin is cozy and has a pot belly stove that was perfect for the cooler mountain nights. I honestly could not have imagined a more beautiful place to stay. 10/10 would reccomend and absolutely can not wait to stay there again.

Quaint Cabin

Loved our stay at the cabin. The Pisgah National Forest was a short walk from our front door and we loved hiking the trails with our dog. Wonderful sounds of nature and the rushing creek at night. We hope to return!

Relaxing and Enjoyable Get Away

Very authentic log cabin in a farm setting. Newly renovated in a quality manner. The cabin in off the main road set in the middle of a cluster of simple buildings. Beautiful mature trees are home to song birds, butterflies and other natural life. You can hear the sounds of a running stream at all hours. The property is adjacent to several beautiful trails that take you the National Forest. If you are looking for a quiet location in a peaceful setting, this is for you. The owners are a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommend.

Relaxing get-away

So pastoral. Quiet days and nights. Abundant forest paths to walk and the rush of the stream day and night. Just what I needed. I've already mentioned to Ann and Jay that the dishes weren't as clean as I'd like. It's not a big deal and would not stop me from staying there in the future. The cabin itself was clean and tidy.

Cabin on the Edge of Pisgah

Great getaway cabin on a farm bordering Pisgah National Forest. My wife and I had a most enjoyable stay. We’re regulars to Asheville but ventured outside the city for accommodations this time. The cabin is cozy with all the right amenities to help getaway and decompress. It was quiet, serene, and blissful.

Very special spot!

I spent three nights at this cabin with my dog. It was a great place to stay on a solo trip. I loved that you can walk right into the Pisgah National Forest from the property. And so many trails are within walking and driving distance! The cabin had everything I needed but I appreciated the front porch view and the comfy bed the most! I look forward to coming back and bringing my husband with me.

Peaceful picture perfect!

We had amazing long weekend in this beautiful cabin right off the Big Ivy Pisgah Forest. It was ideal place for us. I got to sit and read on porch while my husband biked all over the mountain. Lower trails were great for our morning walk with our dog. The cabin was cozy and had everything we needed, except for food I didn’t take Ann’s suggestion that said pick up food in Weaverville. Well I learned my lesson after we had to turn around and drive 30 minute to store. 😊 will be back

A great place to get back to the basics!

A very nice rustic cabin with all the basic amenities included! Ann and Jay were great hosts! The property was very close to nature (animals, hiking trails, great food and small town charm). Definitely the perfect size for a couple and pet. We will definitely keep this property on the list to visit again in the future. Thanks for a great time!

What a beautiful place!

The cabin is small, but the property is magical! Ann and Jay are wonderful hosts, and so are their horses and dogs! And the Big Ivy section of Pisgah National Forest is right at hand, with glorious hiking trails along pristine streams. We will definitely be back!

Living like the settlers

We loved the cabin- it was the perfect size for the two of us and our dog. It was homey and comfortable- loved the quilts, the porch swing and the claw foot tub. It rained while we were there but the sound of the rain on the metal roof was so relaxing. We will be back in spring or summer so we can hike in Pisgah. Thank you Ann and Jay for a wonderful getaway.

Why they chose this property

Boundary End Farm is an idyllic property nestled at the end of a small, tranquil valley adjacent to the 3600 acre Coleman Boundary, or Big Ivy section of the Pisgah National Forest. We have two unique houses available for rent: a cozy three-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalow built in the craftsman style, and a fully restored historic log cabin from the 1820s – one of the oldest such structures in western North Carolina. At Boundary End you can enjoy hiking, biking, trail running, trout fishing, camping, stargazing, horseback riding and endless nature trails that are all accessed directly off the farm property. Or you can just sit back and relax beneath the gorgeous forested mountains, looking over pastures and meadows. Big Ivy historical park is a five-minute drive, where you can find playgrounds, a historical museum and a swimming pool open seasonally. Bring your family and friends for a vacation or retreat. Schedule a weekend of workshops or classes with your favorite crafting or art group. Bring your horses and explore the spectacular trails.

There’s no better way to experience the authentic life of Appalachia while enjoying a full compliment of contemporary amenities.
