About this property

Bears Den: Private, Comfortable, Well Kept Cottage w Hot Tub overlooking River.

Bears Den cottage is located on a dead end mountain road backing up to the Pisgah Natl Forest, just N. of Asheville. It is just minutes from Navitat, WNC's only zipline!! The home is decorated to match the mountains, easy going and peaceful. Sit by the creek on the property or listen to the roar of the river below. There is hiking at Douglas Falls down the road. The lawn is beautifully landscaped with different varieties of flowers all season long. When in season, pick fresh blackberries and raspberries in the front yard. Enjoy a book or glass of wine on the wrap around porch or soak in the 6 person hot tub that sits up on a deck. The property is very secluded and quiet, yet close to many fun things to do...including whitewater rafting, gem mining, shopping, restaurants and the Biltmore Estate. It is the perfect vacation spot, we love it and know you will too. Behaved Pets welcome.

Our Mission: It is our goal to provide you with everything that you will need to make Bear's Den your home away from home. If you have special requests prior to arrival, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. All you will need is your toiletries and food.

Our Story: We operate Bears Den Cottage ourselves. We both have a background in hospitality including working at a 4 star AAA rated bed and breakfast in Colorado. We fell in love with Bears Den the first time we saw it. We have an excellent team of care takers that make sure it is just how we would have it.
Bears Den has a magical feel to it...you can almost see the fairies dancing in the flower gardens. :) We sit on the porch for hours watching the birds, butterflies and humming birds and listening to the river below. The house is open and airy with a big picture window looking out into the forest. The cottage is decorated appropriately with bears, flowers and inspirational signs to make your trip the mountains relaxing and enjoyable. There is a good chance of seeing wild life at this property. We guarantee you will have an excellent time.

Lovely property, very quiet. Do be careful of the driveway through, as it is pretty steep, sort of a don't slow down as you go up it sort of steep.

Quiet Mountain Retreat

The peaceful location makes this a great weekend retreat. Check-in was easy, the cabin was very clean, and the WiFi worked well, which was important since I had to bring a little work with me. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen has all kinds of pots and pans for cooking. We especially enjoyed spending time drinking our morning coffee on the porch. Likewise, its proximity to Asheville made it close enough but away from the business of the city.

Peaceful Getaway

My daughter and I stayed for our annual 2 week vacation away from "the guys". Bear's Den is everything we needed to recharge. The property and home are great. We spent a great deal of time outside painting, birdwatching, and reading. Listening to the river running was so relaxing. House has just about everything you need. The hot tub was perfect for after a hike. There are neighbors within view, but far enough away to still feel secluded. Just a wonderful place to get away and drown yourself in nature.

Wonderful!

A very nice, quiet place to stay if you're looking to go to the Asheville area! The driveway is a little steep, but it's nothing most cars won't be able to handle. There's a stream near the house, so, if you like the sound of water, this could be the place for you. Even if you don't, for some reason, the inside of the house is perfectly quiet. It's a small cottage, but it's still very cozy! I would definitely suggest staying here if you're a couple or a small group, there's two decently comfortable beds.

If you're seeking a tranquil escape in the woods, this is the place to unwind. We had an incredible time here for our anniversary trip, and it was everything we hoped for and more. The cabin offers all the amenities we needed for a cozy and comfortable stay, and the hot tub, tucked away in its own private spot, made it even more special. One of the highlights of this cabin is the porch—perfect for enjoying your morning cup of coffee while listening to the soothing sounds of a babbling creek below and taking in the mountain views. For those looking to balance relaxation with adventure, Pisgah National Forest is nearby, offering a variety of outdoor activities. And if you’re craving a taste of small-town charm, Weaverville’s quaint downtown is just a short drive away, with a few great restaurants that give you a warm, welcoming vibe.Although Douglass Falls Hiking area is still closed, we discovered the Straight Creek trail nearby, which was an easy-to-moderate in-and-out route that featured its own little waterfall. The area still has some lovely signs of Helene's presence. We appreciated how much this retreat offered a balance between seclusion and proximity to both nature and nearby town life. Would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle and recharge in a peaceful woodland.

A real neat OLD cottage with interesting history. Very clean and affordable. Its a bit of a drive to anywhere you might want to visit so plan on driving a lot. Very wooded and steep landscape. Wouldn't recommend bringing children. We had a few supply issues but we got by with what they provided. Overall, a very nice place to stay for a long weekend.

The cabin is exactly as listed. It is very remote, quiet, and easy to get to. The inside of the cabin is very comfortable. The living room and kitchen have everything you need. The smart tv works perfect to watch college football games and the kitchen is well equipped to cook a meal. The beds are not the most comfortable but the bedding is wonderful. The shower is small and water pressure is very low. The hot tub is amazing. There needs to be better lighting around the hot tub. It is very dark outside and walking back to the house with very little light from the hot tub could be dangerous. We used the flash light on our phones. The house was perfect for what we needed it for.

Over all the description of the property was spot on. The cleaning staff needs some pointers. Perhaps they can take some time and clean the coffee pot, empty the lint from the dryer, and cob webs along the floor by the registers. We didnt use the hot tub or the grill, we didnt want to clean them to use them. There was a faint odor of propane near the large tank. Other wise we had a blast.Barnardsville really got demolished by those storms. I had no idea it was that widespread.

So Lovely

This home is just amazing. Ive been staying here as a respite from the woes of the world for many years now. Private, serene and comfortable with an amazing hot tub to end the day. It is convenient to Weaverville or Mars Hill to get out and about. Big Ivy hiking areas are closed due to storm damage as Barnardsville was hit pretty hard by Helene so was relieved this cabin treasure was intact. I would recommend this lovely gem for your getaway any day of the week

Cute place in the woods!

This is a cool little house in the woods. Pretty much exactly as described, with an interesting history. Perfect location for us to stay just a few miles away from Navitat Canopy Adventures so we could go ziplining there.Host is super easy to contact. Since its still just barely the beginning of spring we could see a couple of houses, but they are not close and in the summer when trees are full of leaves you probably can't see them. The driveway is kind of steep, like some others have said. Be prepared for that.We loved out stay here!

Great updated quaint cabin!

My husband and I spent the weekend celebrating our anniversary and his birthday at this lovely cabin. We found it very clean with everything we needed for a lovely stay. The owners were very easy to reach by text and extremely nice. There is a lovely gas fireplace which we really enjoyed. Sit on the porch, or walk up a stairway to the good sized hot tub with a view of the creek down the hill and surrounded by nature. We hope to stay again!

Perfect for two plus dog

The house is clean and the outdoor areas are private. It sits in a small yard in the woods on a steep hillside with a creek across the traffic-free road. We enjoyed sitting on a rock in the creek and watching our dog explore. The inside was roomy enough for two plus a small dog, and clean. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook. We usually played games at the kitchen table in the evenings. The house is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we enjoyed the Big Ivy section of the Pisgah National Forest which takes you to a couple of waterfalls. I would defintely consider staying here again if we ever come back to this area.

Weekend getaway

Great little place to stay, clean, well equipped and quiet location. It’s far enough out but close enough to things as the same time. Hot tub was great. One thing to know, the driveway is mildly steep. No problem for a modern vehicle, but we drove a classic car and it was a little dicey getting up the drive. I don’t remember if this was mentioned in the listing or not, but I’m just sharing in case it helps someone else decide what to drive LOL. We’d definitely come back!

About the host

Host profile image
I worked in a 21 room country inn/bed and breakfast in Colorado in 2000 which I really enjoyed. After moving to Asheville in 2001, I wanted to pursue owing a vacation rental and we found Bears Den in 2006. I find hospitality is my gift. We owned other cottages but are back to having just this one, it's our favorite and our 'baby' you could say. We hope to one day own a bed and breakfast. We love having this cottage and want to make you feel like you are home away from home.

Why they chose this property

I was in the mortgage business and was constantly being told about cabins and cottages from Realtors I was working with as we were looking. We knew right away Bears Den was the one. I cannot describe the magic and charm you feel. It may look rustic on the outside but it's very well kept inside and the grounds are beautiful and display everything the Western North Carolina Mountains hold.

What makes this property unique

Renters love listening to the river below while on the porch with either a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. The hot tub is also a favorite because it sits up on a deck so it offers better views and is like it's own destination. Several renters have seen deer and turkeys in the yard. It's very quiet yet close to everything.
