Warm hospitality in a great location

Thank you Ellen for a fantastic stay. We choose it for the location in the heart of the walkable historic district. We loved the gracious porch and your warm southern hospitality. The decor was beautiful, the beds were comfy, and the little kitchenette was well appointed. We had a great stay!

Great location

This carriage house was cute, extremely clean and in a great location. We walked to breakfast ( Blackstone Cafe) every morning. All of the Bay Street shops are within walking distance. We also did a carriage ride through the historic district which was outstanding

Carriage house heaven

Fantastic carriage house getaway, close to town, amenities, and waterfront but quiet and secluded enough for a romantic anniversary weekend. Christmas tour was an added bonus. We love Beaufort and this is the best place we have stayed.

Perfect location, perfect vacation rental

We had a lovely half-week in this pretty carriage house. The location couldn't have been better - I never started my car once after arriving - everything in town is walkable from here. And the property itself is gorgeous - loved sitting on the balcony and just taking it all in. The rental was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. And the hosts, Ellen and Mike, couldn't have been more gracious. Definitely coming back...

Fabulous

My daughter and I along with her friend enjoyed the Wrens Nest so much! It was the perfect size and location for the 3 of us. We ate in a couple of nights and out one night. We were able to walk downtown. The last night we enjoyed a glass of wine overlooking the water. I will definitely be back!

Perfect home away from home!

My family and I reserved the upstairs carriage house to attend graduation week for my daughter at Parris Island. The home was very clean and inviting. It was stocked with all the necessities, and very comfortable beds and bedding. My son and I enjoyed walking 2 short blocks to Waterfront Park to watch the sunset or just swing on the benches and overlook the bay. The park is also surrounded by cute little shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. Only about 15 min drive to Parris Island, so just the right location all around. I cannot imagine anyone passing this place up to pay about the same price if not more at a hotel. Only suggestion I have is there is just one closet, so if you're traveling with 4, you might want to bring one of those collapsible racks to hang clothes on. We were traveling light and no need for fancy clothes so it was not an issue for us at all. Met Ellen one of the mornings and she is just the sweetest. Thank you Mike & Ellen for a wonderful southern hospitality experience for these West Coast Cali-Folks!!

Wren's Nest over July 4th weekend

This property is the top of the carriage house, for anyone wanting to confirm (we specifically wanted the top, not the bottom). REALLY enjoyed the onsite parking! (no parking on the street!) Tastefully decorated! It is situated just a 5 minute walk from downtown Beaufort, however, no water views (which is fine--just a detail for any who might be looking for that). The apartment is appointed with 2 bedrooms a living space with television (we hardly noticed it!) and a fully appointed kitchen (including a full-sized refrigerator). Our stay was only 3 nights, but our favorite part was sitting in the rocking chairs just outside the door--the cushions are SO amazing--never thought I'd be talking about that in a review, but there it is. We also enjoyed visiting with the cat! The "puck" soaps smell amazing! Not sure what's in them but they have a peppery smell and it's so nice. Ellen is a southern gem, the biggest sweetheart. Nothing bad to say about this property; exactly what we were looking for.

This is a wonderful property! Ellen is a fantastic house with great communication and hospitality. It is in a perfect location to be able to walk everywhere and enjoy all the beautiful historical homes and restaurants. It has every amenity that you need with a great kitchen area and spacious Interior. Our favorite was the gorgeous port with rocking chairs where we had coffee each morning and cocktails in the evening. Very private yet close to it all! I highly recommend this great property!

Beautiful historic carriage house

This was our second time staying here, and once again it was lovely. Spotlessly clean, charming and well fitted out with all we could need. Perfect location in the historic district - within a short walking distance of Bay Street and other spots. The porch is delightful for sitting out in the cool of the mornings! Highly recommend!

About the host

Hosted by Ellen and Mike Tomy

Host profile image
Mike Tomy is an award winning architect and Ellen has been painting portraits for over 20 years. They are both retired. The main house and the carriage house that sits near were renovated in 2015. Vacations from Atlanta down to Beaufort every summer to visit family, we bought this property because of our love for architecture, history and Beaufort itself. Ellen's family roots are in South Carolina so it is like coming home to stay.

Why they chose this property

The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees somewhat block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.

What makes this property unique

The Carriage House on Craven, central to all that is happening in Beaufort has a separate unit downstairs (property 742825) if one has a large party and all want to stay in one place.
During the many yearly festivals parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind locally owned shops on Bay Street and enjoy fabulous seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully equipped kitchen is ready for you.
