About the host

Hosted by Ellen and Mike Tomy

Host profile image
Mike Tomy is an award winning architect and Ellen has been painting portraits for over 20 years. They are both retired. The main house and the carriage house that sits near were renovated in 2015. Vacations from Atlanta down to Beaufort every summer to visit family, we bought this property because of our love for architecture, history and Beaufort itself. Ellen's family roots are in South Carolina so it is like coming home to stay.

Why they chose this property

The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees somewhat block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.

What makes this property unique

The Carriage House on Craven, central to all that is happening in Beaufort has a separate unit downstairs (property 742825) if one has a large party and all want to stay in one place.
During the many yearly festivals parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind locally owned shops on Bay Street and enjoy fabulous seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully equipped kitchen is ready for you.
