About this property
Carriage House under Live Oaks in historic Beaufort SC
You are viewing the separate upstairs unit, Wren's Nest. This picturesque South Carolina carriage house sits next to our home, Craven House, in the beautiful historic district in downtown Beaufort, one block from the Beaufort River marina, Bay Street shopping, museums and restaurants. Walk everywhere, even to the post office. Wren’s Nest has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full bed. In between the two bedrooms, there is a shared full bath. The unit has hardwood floors throughout and a fully fitted kitchen. Relax on the porch or furnished patio surrounded by 100 year old oak trees draped with Spanish moss, lovely gardens and historic homes. The sound of the church bells of nearby St Helena Church, one of the oldest continual working churches in the country, will take you back into the 18th century.
This carriage house with separate upper and lower units was recently brought back to life after many years of neglect. It truly is the best location in Beaufort, near the Anchorage House, Beaufort Inn and Rhett House, Beaufort’s most popular wedding venues. From here It is an easy drive to Paris Island, the Sands beach in Port Royal and Hunting beach on the ocean.

About the host
Hosted by Ellen and Mike Tomy

Mike Tomy is an award winning architect and Ellen has been painting portraits for over 20 years. They are both retired. The main house and the carriage house that sits near were renovated in 2015. Vacations from Atlanta down to Beaufort every summer to visit family, we bought this property because of our love for architecture, history and Beaufort itself. Ellen's family roots are in South Carolina so it is like coming home to stay.
Why they chose this property
The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees somewhat block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.
What makes this property unique
The Carriage House on Craven, central to all that is happening in Beaufort has a separate unit downstairs (property 742825) if one has a large party and all want to stay in one place.
During the many yearly festivals parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind locally owned shops on Bay Street and enjoy fabulous seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully equipped kitchen is ready for you.
