The ice storm covered everything except the roads. It was brilliant! We enjoyed the beautiful view each day we were there. There was always something interesting to watch in the comfort of our rental.
Man oh man I cannot say enough good things about this property. We just recently got married at Amelia Grove, right down the road from the Grey Goose. My husband and a few of his groomsmen stayed at this house, and it was the PERFECT place for them and honestly anyone looking to stay close to property for their wedding. They raved about the beach and back porch, and just had the best time. This is also where all his groomsmen got ready for the wedding and hungout before the ceremony, and it could not have been more convenient. I could not recommend this place more.
The place was clean and in a great location for our needs. We needed something close to downtown New Bern and the Gray Goose fit the bill. We would definitely stay here again. Plenty of room for 6 adults and a dog. Beautiful location on the river.
Jeff has done a great job setting the property up for a nice getaway. The house is located on property with several other rental cabins, but is separate from them so you don't even know they are there unless you are looking for them. The community area is perfectly set up with hammocks, horshoes, cornole, massive firepit, blackstone grill, and smoker cabinet. As for the house, it is an open layout with plenty of room in the kitchen and dining area to entertain, the bedrooms are huge, and the closets are stocked nicely. The back deck is right over the man made beach and water, has a private grill and hammock swing. You can fish from the beach or go to the shared dock if you wish, plenty of kayaks and a paddle boat complete with lifejackets for your use. Plenty to do on the property, but extremely close to downtown and alll the restaurants and bars. It gives the best of all worlds, you can hang with other guests on the property, be isolated by yourselves at the main house, or head downtown for shopping and dining. Great find!
My family (husband & 3 kiddos) enjoyed our stay. We took the kids out on the water and fished a little. The beds were comfortable and the home was clean. The driveway is well marked and easy to find. We plan to be back.
A little pricey for me, and the house itself I would rate as funky but chic, but its right on the creek with beautiful views and a short drive to town. Eagles flying about. Kayaks, etc. Should have brought my boat but its 800 miles to where i live. We went in late March, would be great in the warm months. I give it a 4 out of 5. Do it.
We had such a great time. We had everything we needed. The only down fall of our stay was that the fish just weren’t biting.
Communication with Jeff was outstanding.
Thank you and we hope to return to the area again
This was a great house! Check in was super easy. Everything was clean and organized when we arrived. There was plenty of space for everyone. We LOVED the deck and the beach in front of the house. We spent one whole day playing in the water. It was perfect! We would definitely stay again! A small issue arose (something we did, nothing wrong with the house or amenities) and the owner was super friendly and accommodating in a way I feel like you don't see nowadays! We were super close to everything we needed in town! Great stay all around!
This was one of the most absolute perfect properties we have stayed in. It was AMAZING!!! The interior was so comfortable providing open views to the water. The balcony was so wide and open allowing gorgeous views of the water and fish literally jumping all around. Jeff was outstanding and responded immediately. A+++ all the way around.🤗
Jeff was fantastic to work with, very responsive. At first sight, you may not think this property is all you signed up for. But then you open the door to a gorgeous get away with a stunning view of the lake. Comfortable beds, clean, fully equipped kitchen and plenty of kayaks for the whole family. Our only regret is we didn't stay longer.
We had a brief, but wonderful stay at the Gray Goose. The panoramic view of the creek was great and the reflection of the trees in the creek makes for a great photo opportunity. There is a Food Lion close by and it is a short drive into New Bern. The property itself is great with everything you could want. The kitchen is especially well stocked with dishes, utensils and appliances. I do not remember what is advertised, but I would recommend bringing your own shower items (soap and shampoo). We were here in February so we did not take advantage of the kayaks, but those would be great in the summer. Do not hesitate to stay here if you are looking for a vacation property in this area!
We absolutely loved the Gray Goose. From the moment we walked through to door until we regrettably had to leave. 😢. Very clean and comfortable. We sleep well on the comfy beds and enjoyed nice hot showers. Didn’t have a chance to enjoy the paddle boat or kayaks, but will definitely be back and staying longer so we can. And btw....amazing view. Anyone coming to visit New Bern will not regret staying at the Gray Goose.
This little spot on a bend of the creek was just what we were looking for. The boat launch was quick and easy and the ride through the creek was lovely. The house has clearly had a lot of recent tlc. We even had someone stop on their boat and say we've done a great job with the place! When we told them we were just renting, they told us what a wreck it used to be! They were very impressed with the outside and we let them know that the inside was great, too! It is clear that the guest's comfort is important.
Our stay at the Grey Goose was just as pictured only more wonderful. I've rented many houses before but this was was by far the best stocked. He had just about everything we could need in the house. Some places treat you like they think you'll steal everything or they leave just the bare minimum. But the owner made sure the home was comfortable and anything you needed was there. He even provided fishing rods and a paddle boat, which wasn't advertised. Bath&Body works hand soaps, everything smelled good when you walked in. Just as pictured. We really enjoyed our stay. So relaxing, so beautiful! Thanks so much!

LOVELY HOME WITH AN EVEN MORE LOVELY VIEW!!!
We rent on Vrbo and other sites a few times every year, and I must say this owner, Jeff, went above and beyond when it comes to being accommodating and making sure you have everything you could possibly need during your stay. What a pleasure to deal with! The home itself it so comfortable and roomy, and the back porch overlooking the water is heavenly!! My husband and I started and ended each day sitting on the porch enjoying the beautiful view of the water and osprey nest right out front. We took boat rides each day on the creek itself, but also rode out to the Trent and Neuse Rivers for longer rides on bigger water. So relaxing! Downtown historic New Bern is another treat, with old fashioned sidewalk browsing, plenty of restaurants, ice cream places and shops. You will love this home and the owner too! You won't be disappointed with this one.
What a view! If you are renting this property, you value a beautiful view with your morning coffee and evening cocktails. Jeff’s place is a rustic home on the water. It has the little quirks of an older home. But it is spacious, has enough beds for a big gang, and is perfectly suited to fun in the river. We had people sit with their toes in the sand for an evening, hosted a small brunch for family members who were in town, kayaked, and spent hours watching wildlife and boaters in the river. The house was clean — no sand, clean beds, no evidence of dogs staying there before us. It does have a slight damp feeling like all homes that sit on the water. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a step in shower which is nice for older folks. Plenty of parking. Drip coffee maker. Lots of pitchers, which I especially appreciate because we love cold iced tea and water when we are outside a lot. The little sand “beach” beach is unique and wonderful. While the dock is shared, there aren’t a lot of people coming and going and we loved chatting when someone actually did come to the dock. There is a huge banquette in the kitchen to set up a buffet — we had brunch and a huge Italian feast one day. Just perfect. If you have a lot of people, bring some paper goods, platters and serving bowls. But if it’s just a family of 6-8, you’ll have plenty of supplies to make meals. The location is within 5 min of the airport, and less than 10 to the town of New Bern. Amazing, welcoming hosts!
Property had almost everything my family needed. The host was very responsive. All appliances were adequet. Gas grill was also quite large and clean which was a pleasure to see.
The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The furniture in the home was up-to-date and ample.
There isn't an area for the furbabies to get out of the water unassisted. The dock is set on deep water which was also nice for boat parking.
The kayaks were moldy and dirty and the seats were all rotted and unusable. We enjoyed what we could with kayaks but they needed a good pressure washing and seat replacements and updated paddles.
There were minimal utensils. We were only supplied with 4 forks which was not idea for a group of 5.
The deck and beach area were beautiful!! The only thing I wish is that there was better and more comfortable seating. The cushions on the furniture were flat and worn. It was difficult to sit for any amount of time and enjoy the view. There were hanging hammock chairs which the kids and myself enjoyed but again for the price of the rental they were tattered and needed replacement. The only other seating were thin metal benches. I would recommend bringing your own beach chairs for comfort.
The beach area was enjoyable! There were Adirondack chairs but the cushions were tattered and flimsy.
The home could really benefit from a deep clean. I would return to this property with my family. Knowing what I would have to bring for comfort. Great location on the river with deep water.
