Historic log cabin on 60 acres in the heart of Chequamegon National Forest. Pet Friendly.

Build a fire in the fieldstone fireplace - living room - picture window overlooking the forest and White River.
Build a fire in the woodstove on the 3-season screened porch. There are huge windows overlooking the forest and spring.
Build a fire in the campfire pit outside.

A spring flows by the cabin, emptying into a small pond, which overflows into the White River. The sound of wind rustling through the trees and the sound of water flowing by is constant and one of reasons White River Retreat is special.

The main body of the log cabin was built in the 1930s by craftsmen who understood the beauty as well as the functionality of log cabins. A large porch (20x30) and a second story was added to the cabin in 2010.

Floor 1: 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, living room with a fieldstone fireplace and 3-season porch. Woodstove on porch and working fireplace in the living room. I provide the firewood.

Floor 2: 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths - well appointed with travertine tile, clawfoot tub, tile shower, reclaimed wood vanities, large bedrooms with views.

Bed configuration: 2 queen, 1 full, 2 twin. I provide the bed linens.

Kitchen: stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots/pans/dishes.

Basement - storage

I have co-owned/operated a lodge with multiple cabins near White River Retreat, for over 25 years. I understand what people are looking for in a vacation rental. I do my best to guide you toward this rental option if I feel that it matches your needs. I also steer you away from the cabin rental if it seems that this is not a good match for your needs. I want people to be happy here and leave feeling renewed by the experience.

Perfect getaway in the woods. The nearby creek was soothing, great communication from the host, and quiet setting. This place was perfect for our group of teens and adults to play games, enjoy a campfire, and swim at the nearby resort.

This was our second time at this property. It is a beautiful cabin/house that is remote enough to get away but close to a lot of things. The host is super nice and communication is great. We enjoy the local bar/restaurants, hiking waterfalls and worked in an Apostle Island Cruise. Fish fry Fridays and supper club Saturdays make northern Wisconsin trips a great getaway.

This was a great find. The host was so thoughtful and caring that when we had a power outage she came to the property to check on us. This place is remote and if that is what you like and want, it was perfect. Easy trail access and lots of room. FYI no TV here…..

This was our fourth year visiting the cabin, and we so much enjoyed our time spent there. The peace and quiet, the beautiful fires we had each night in the fireplace, and Marilyn's hospitality make this one our favorite getaway destinations. We are already thinking about next year! Marilyn was an excellent host. She made sure to get us properly checked in and answer any questions about the property. We absolutely loved the porch and hearing the water running by the cabin. There was plenty of room in the cabin for us to spread out. Only complaint was the flies that were a nuisance outside. But that is nature and it happens. Great cabin to hang out and use as base camp between our adventures. There are not major grocery stores real close but you can get sufficient supplies from smaller local grocers.

The whole property was amazing Marilyn was so wonderful, the only bummer was the Internet was out and not having any signal there was kind of an issue but the primary reason for the stay was to unplug, however to be forced off grid is a lot different than choosing to be off grid.

Thank you for understanding the phone/Internet service outage. To explain the reason for the outage: I have several properties. A few days prior to the arrival of the guest I terminated the phone/internet service to a property I am rehabbing. In the phone connection with the service provider I explained that only the service to the house being rehabbed should be terminated. Somehow this did not make it through the phone line to the person on the other end. The service to the cabin rental was terminated. While I connected with the service provider over the weekend, service was not restored. I was able to speak with someone early in the week who arranged for service to be restored. I take seriously the need for people to connect to the Internet and to be able to dial out on the phone, in the event of an emergency. Sincerely, Marilyn

The hostess was nice. She was readily available for questions and assistance. I was in the area for a class that was scheduled to run past the checkout time on our final day. She was understanding and flexible about our departure time.The cabin's setting is peaceful and private. The calm was greatly enhanced the by the sounds of the gently flowing spring thru the front yard and the nearby river.The property was clean and recent updates to the upstairs interior are quite nice. However, it would benefit from having some additional landscaping and deeper cleaning (for example cutting back overgrowth and removing debris around the front entry, clearing downed trees daming the river, and washing the windows).The fireplace and furnishings make the living area

I live 2 miles from White River Retreat, at a resort which I co-own/operate with my former spouse. My two sons, aged 19 and 15, are a joy to watch grow into young men. Four newfoundland mixed breed dogs are a part of my life.

Why they chose this property

As I live locally, I have known about this cabin, with the spring flowing through the grounds and the White River flowing by the cabin, for years. I fell in love with it when I saw it for the first time, visiting friends who owned it. Recently it became available for sale and I chose to take it on as my responsibility, believing that others would find it as beautiful and want to rent it. I own/operate a lodge/cabin rental business located 2 miles away. Owning/renting White River Retreat has been second nature for me, given my background.
