Walk Softly—There’s a Dream Here Only 15 minutes from downtown Burlington, Baxter’s Hide-Away Cottage rests quietly on the private Mills Point Peninsula—an intimate retreat created for you and the one you cherish… or for a peaceful escape all your own. Perfectly placed just steps from the shores of Lake Champlain and the world-famous Colchester Causeway Bike Path, this hidden gem invites slow mornings, sunset walks, and the gentle rhythm of nature. Ideal for couples or solo travelers seeking tranquility, this is a place to unwind—not a setting for parties or nightlife. ________________________________________ The Space Baxter’s Hide-Away Cottage offers the rare balance of seclusion and proximity—close enough to enjoy Burlington’s college events, festivals, triathlons, and vibrant culture, yet far enough to return to stillness at day’s end. Lovingly brought to life at the close of August, the cottage has been created in a unique and heartfelt way. While portions of the surrounding grounds will continue to be completed through next year, the spirit of the space is already here—calm, enchanting, and restorative. Our hope is that both the cottage and this special peninsula provide you with a deeply restful and refreshing stay. Guest Access Guests enjoy full, private access to the entire cottage. A short walk down the hill brings you to the Causeway bike path, where miles of scenic beauty await. You’ll also have access to the Mills Point beach area, reserved for residents and their guests—perfect for quiet lakeside moments.

The location was perfect and close to activities and markets, but also secluded. The cottage was so clean and unique inside it felt like a very special getaway. We took advantage of the local drive in, shops, and the amazing views on the lake. This place is truly a hidden gem and I would absolutely recommend staying here.
We had a wonderful week at the cabin, perfectly located and accurately listed. Hosts were easily available. Could not have asked for a better Vermont location and vacation.
The home is filled with very nice personal and thoughtful decor. We very much enjoyed our stay and appreciate the cleanliness and warmth that the owners have taken time to fill the inside with.
This is a great place for a stay in the Burlington area.
Steps away from the causeway and 15 from downtown Burlington.

It was VERY quiet. For us it was centrally located to all the areas we wanted to hike. The decor was absolutely amazing. Each day we would notice something we had missed the previous days.We would most definitely stay there again

Hi George,
You will always be welcome.
All the best, Albert
Cabin is exactly as pictured. Beautiful decor, and a very homey feel! This was the best experience I've ever had booking a VRBO, from start to finish. The host was very responsive, the pricing was fair, and the cabin was very clean.
Great place to be and live for a few days so close to the Causeway with short day trips to Sisters of Anarchy Ice Cream, Healthy Living for groceries, Shelburne Farms, and Burlington Church Street Marketplace. Cottonwood in the air added to the wonder and charm
We had a wonderful time at Baxter’s Hideaway! Easy access to the lake and causeway, comfortable beds, and beautifully curated decor. All photos of this listing are very accurate.
What a wonderful setting to get away from it all yet be close to everything you could possibly need or want. This little cottage is an embrace as you are drawn into its warmth.
Location was secluded, quick access to the causeway which we enjoyed. Power went out our last night, but it wasn't long before it came back on. The quiet was blissful!!
Thank you!
My fiancé and I had a lovely, quiet weekend away in Maine...just what we were looking for. It is definitely a summer shack...some parts of the cottage are poorly built, but it was perfect for a quick summer vacation!

Your writing about the wrong place.
This is not in Maine
Overall, the stay was great! We swam in the lake across the street, rode our bikes on the Colchester Causeway, and along the Burlington Bikepath to a quiet beach. The house was clean and welcoming.
Thank you!
Unfortunately, it rained all weekend and we weren’t able to take advantage of the great location close to the lake and causeway. Hope to come back another time when the weather is more cooperative so we can bike and kayak.
Our second stay at Baxter's Hideaway was just as wonderful as the first. Albert is very responsive. The property very clean and well-equipped. The proximity to the bike trail is great. With beautiful weather we meandered along Church Street Marketplace in Burlington each night (highly recommend!). If you want to eat dinner in Burlington we recommend making reservations well in advance. We will definitely return again next fall!
The comfort, location, and charm of this place were unparalleled for how we wanted to spend our wedding anniversary. The view from causeway over Mallet’s Bay is a must see and proximity to Burlington was convenient enough for daily trips into town. The area is very clean and well cared for, but we did do some litter removal on our causeway walks to help shield the bay and its inhabitants. We would love to see others follow suit (when, of course, it is safe to do so)
We very much enjoyed our stay at Baxter’s Hidaway. The decor was very interesting and engaging. The kitchen had everything we needed and we ate breakfast and dinner here each day. We loved how close to the causeway we were and the neighborhood was charming. It made it easy to get a walk in every day. The beds were super comfy as was the couch. All the chairs were nice to sit in and we really had a good time here. We took day trips out on our motorcycle and spent the evenings at the cozy cabin. Thanks!

Elizabeth and I really had a lovely time. The house was warm and welcoming, and had an endearing, quirky feel. The location was ideal, with Lake Champlain a stone's throw away. We rested, made delicious dinners, sampled the local cuisine (Leunig's!!!), kayaked, strolled, and took daily bicycle rides. The house was comfy (mostly) and we enjoyed the variety of visual stimuli that comprised the decorations and furnishings of the property. There are a few "suggestions" to share, but those will be done privately. It's hard to imagine not having a restful vacation here.

All you had to do was call me for what ever you needed, the fan works manually.
Wishing you the best
Cabin-like rental across the street from the lake and a 2-3 minute's walk to the causeway. Bed is comfortable, and there is a nice deck out front and there are kayaks, which we not able to use, but it's a nice feature.
A few caveats: if you have mobility issues, you might want to avoid this place because you have to walk on grass a fair stretch to get from the driveway. The bathroom is not that private: the ceiling is completely open. There were also a lot of mosquitos.
