About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

The property was as advertised and I would describe it as a rustic updated cabin suitable for a family of six. We had no idea how to enter the property because the owner never provided instructions about how to obtain a key. Fortunately there is a small grocery at the bottom of Bruce Road and they directed us to the Redwoods reservation office. The kind people in the office provided a key and allowed us access to the property two hours before checkin time. The property was not perfectly clean but it was satisfactory. My only complain is the outdoor area was coated with pine pollen and the only hose available to clean it up was damaged and needs replacement. Overall we enjoyed use of the property for three nights.
Perfect for our family of 5, and as a base camp to explore Yosemite! The washer and dryer were great for us, they allowed us to minimize our packing.
Definitely a return trip destination!

Thank you so much for choosing us to host such an important day! Happy belated birthday to your husband! We hope to be able to host your next destination vacation!
Easy check-in, clean and had everything we needed. It was nice to already be inside the gates, so no waiting for entry into the park every morning. About a 45 minute drive to the valley. We would definitely stay again if we return to Yosemite.

Clean but things are getting a bit old in this VRBO: Inside couches, exterior furniture. Owners need to spruce it up. Also, Dish TV is terrible- get something better.

Hello,
We thank you for the review. Each cabin is privately owned and reflects the personal style of each homeowner. We thank you for bringing this to our attention and will bring it up to the homeowners.

Gave this unit five stars but there were some issues. The microwave over the range is not operative. Appears the owner went the cheap route with a microwave on the counter. Unfortunately, that eliminates the vent fan over the range. Please sharpen the knives.

2nd Visit
We've stayed here twice now and both have been very comfortable. The kitchen/living room area is very open and full of windows and light. Because we visited in June this time when the temps were in the 90's, having air conditioning was a big plus at dinner time. The location of the cabin is great in that you're at the top of the road and so it's quiet and virtually no traffic.
The kitchen is well equipped except for the cheese grater which I think is really a nutmeg grater as it is so small. The other thing about all these cabins is that none of them have sharp knives or knife sharpeners so bring your own. Lastly, I would agree with Snowy weekend that it would be nice if the patio furniture was out and easily accessible. It was stacked and dirty when we arrived. Been coming to the Redwoods for 20+ years now and this is certainly one of the better properties.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review! We are excited to read about your experience and glad to know you enjoyed Cabin 23A :) Reviews are a vital part of our business and we will make the necessary adjustments as needed and share with our staff. Thank you for choosing The Redwoods In Yosemite Vacation Home Rentals.
This house suited all our needs while exploring Yosemite. Having 2 king bedroom suites accommodated 2 couples. The house was welcoming and a great place to relax after spending the day in the park. The beds were comfy and we slept soundly with fresh air. On the one hot day, the A/C cooled us off quickly. We loved watching the bats at sunset. We had one minor glitch in that our grill's propane tank was empty. The Redwood staff brought us a new tank within 15 minutes. That was an amazing response time. We cooked every evening meal at the house. The kitchen provided the basic amenities and we enjoyed the large kitchen table. The front desk staff provided information about the area and ideas for hiking. When we needed some items for the house (no hot pads in the drawers) they were quick to respond. The only challenge we had was arriving late at night in the dark. The house was not easily marked and we drove in circles a few times before we found it via pictures from the website. We would definitely stay here again.

Dirty, old and rundown
This home is sad. You can tell it was once loved, but no more. Filthy on checkin, hair everywhere in both baths, top sheet torn and quarter sized ink stain. Mold in bathroom shower stall. Missing formica on worn countertops. Beds were lumpy. Entire house stunk each time we turned on the hvac. Suspect the filter needs to be changed and the ducts cleaned. Couches are uncomfortable and worn. Blinds throughout were filthy and broken. Light from neighbor’s floodlights poured in through the broken blinds and kept both couples up at night. No blackout drapes anywhere. Shower heads have worse than usual flow, so it takes forever to rinse hair. Notice was left saying it was against the law according to National Park Service to have a fire in the fireplace, despite claims for it and wood supplied outside. Checked with them at next outing, those restrictions were lifted 2 weeks earlier. Host or owner just did not want us using the expensive firewood. A single, thin bath towel, hand towel and washcloth per person. Had to use my washcloth as a dishrag to wipe up kitchen counters after meals. 3 rolls of tp for 5 adults for the week. 3 pods for dishwasher for 5 people for 8 days. Pick a property with another property management company. Way too expensive for the condition of home.
We were pleased that the cabin was so clean and modern, especially inside. Big Cedar cabin has a great living area with a beautiful fireplace and a well stocked, modern kitchen. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and pleasant. A little more water pressure in the shower would have been nice.
The deck is fantastic. Large and inviting. The grill was gassed up and ready to go. Sitting on the deck one morning two graceful mule deer casually strolled by. The natural effect was nice, but honestly could have been a little more tidy. The neighborhood isn't bad but nothing great. It is just under an hour's drive to get to Yosemite valley's main attractions. It's location in the park saves the hassle of getting permits for the park.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It's spacious, clean, has everything you need and great location. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone who likes nature, cozy and comfortable accommodations and close proximity to major hiking areas.
Location was good. 50 minutes to the valley and 30 minutes to glacier point area. Quiet area. Small grocery with just the essentials in neighborhood was quaint and convenient.
The location was great allowing us a spacious place to cook breakfast, dinner and pack lunches while spending our days in the park. The house is in a beautiful setting. The accommodations were dated and would use a bit of maintenance and a deep clean. That being said we would rent again as is!

Great location, lots of beds, well-equipped kitchen!
This was a convenient property for our whole family. Loved the A/C, washer dryer, dishwasher. The property had a great deck with a wonderful view. It was about 30 minutes to the valley floor. The house had everything we needed including wifi and a nearby convenience store. There were several nice hikes right down the street. I would return to this property if we go back to Yosemite!

Thank you for your review of Big Cedar (23A). We are very proud that our cabin is one of the few that offers air conditioning among the other amenitites. We are happy to know that you enjoyed not only the cabin, but all that there is to offer right here in Wawona, beyond the 30 minute dive to the gorgeous Yosemite Valley area. We hope we do see you back in the near future!

Snowy weekend
The house was beautiful and roomy! Loved having king size beds. Well equipped kitchen.
Only complaint would be the shower water pressure, not sure if all cabins have the same pressure. It would have been nice if patio furniture wasn't stored underneath the deck cover. We would have sat outside and enjoyed fresh air even though snowing.

Thank you for your review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. I'm not sure why your water pressure was low. But it may have had something to do with the temperature and snow. Most of our homes have the furniture removed and protected from the wet and snowy weather, but we would have been glad to get them out for you! At anytime you can call maintenance to help you, whether it's for low water pressure or pulling the deck furniture out.

Relaxing
Nice place to spend w family. Unlimited firewood, close to store, beautiful views.
We brought a couple area rugs for the entry way and livingroom, because it was all tile, so it added a nice touch. I like to run and found a 4 mile loop across the two bridges. Drove down to the valley for adventure.
