I’ve always loved the mountains and I grew up hiking the Appalachian Trail on weekends. When I was younger I’d hike or ride my bike up the Blue Ridge Parkway across Grandfather Mountain to watch the Linn Cove Viaduct construction. Over to Julian Price Park on summer nights to the Amphitheater to listen to local Blue Grass musicians. Main Street in Blowing Rock is about 10 miles away and so is Boone.
