A fully equipped cottage on McHeard Cove in East Blue Hill. An easy trip to Blue Hill or Ellsworth, a little further to Mount Dessert Island or Deer Isle. The property sits "behind" our new house but has its own grassy area for coffee, books or contemplation that looks right out to the cove. It has two bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs. Working furnace, but the heat is only distributed to the lower level and the upstairs bathroom. There is a deck for relaxing or eating outside.

This was our second stay at this wonderful place. Access to Acadia and to other beauty on the coast is great. The view of the cove is private and peaceful; the kayaks are an extra bonus. Caryl and Stephen are kind and responsive hosts. It is very likely that we will return a third time!
We had a nice, relaxing stay at the cottage by the bay. The house was well-equipped with wi-fi, TV, all the kitchen items we wanted, a gas grill and deck. Across the yard is a beautiful view of the water and boats. Caryl and Stephen were responsive to all our questions and requests, and they provided us with kayaks and life jackets for several outings on the bay. I saw a group of seals one day, and one curious fellow lingered to watch me paddle after the others dispersed.
Although you're practically in the country in East Blue Hill, the house is well situated as a home base for day trips to Acadia and nearby towns like Ellsworth or Rockland. It is just a short drive from a nature preserve (Peter's Brook and Penny's Nature Preserve Trail System) and Blue Hill, where you can get groceries, visit shops (recommend Blue Hill Books) and dine at a variety of restaurants.
This place is very clean and the owners offered a lot of supplies much more than our expectation, which made us doubt if we live in a friend's house or a rental place. The ownders' generosity made us feel at home.
The location is great too. It is in a small bay area and could get on the boat right before the house. Very conenient. We borrowed owners' kayak and padding boat. We had great time and want to come back again!
Cove Cottage is a very sweet, very light small house facing the harbor in East Blue Hill. The kitchen is extremely well supplied, the dining area is bright and attractive, the sitting room is cozy but comfortable. Heat comes up quickly from the baseboards downstairs. Upstairs, there is heat in the bathroom but not the bedrooms. Fine if you like sleeping in a cooler room. The futon bed is a little lumpy (perhaps it should be turned more often); my friends found the bed in the 2nd bedroom to be quite comfortable. Better lighting in the house would help (there are too few light fixtures and not all are well placed). There. could be more comprehensive info about recycling. Small issues! The hosts are friendly & helpful. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
The house is rustic but very clean and has everything you could need. Do note the bathroom is upstairs, which is convenient for the bedrooms but not for when you’re downstairs. Beautiful hike in Blue Hill Mountain. A bit far from Acadia but manageable. Kitchen is incredibly well stocked with utensils and appliances.
We absolutely loved our stay and have fallen in love with the Blue Hill peninsula! I can't believe our luck in choosing this amazing place.
The house was more than comfortable, evoking all that I imagined a waterside Maine cottage to be. Waking up with the cool sea breezes and sun streaming in the windows was pure joy! Enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine was so relaxing whether sitting on the deck listening to the birds, by the bay looking across to Acadia, or in the light filled living room in a comfy chair. My family loved having access to the kayaks and paddle board and spent hours in the water swimming, kayaking, and exploring the shore while I was able to enjoy a good book (picked up at the amazing Blue Hill Bookshop!).
The community of Blue Hill and all the surrounding towns on the Blue Hill peninsula were filled with charming shops and galleries as well as wonderful restaurants. We spent most of our week exploring the peninsula. When we did leave to visit Acadia, the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, and the Penobscot Narrows Observatory and Fort Knox (all worth a visit and close by) we were so happy to return to the peace of Blue Hill.
Our hosts were so kind and helpful, ready to provide information and recommendations. Our stay was everything we hoped for and more. The perfect Maine experience!
It was a very comfortable, quiet, and simple place to relax. Beauty abounds!! We found everything we needed, including kayaks to enjoy the cove. The eagles, herens, and cormorants were inspiring. We were amazed to watch the tides rise and fall as we enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets on the water.
We had a delightful stay at the home. Caryl is a very good hostess and the home was fully equipped, comfy and included special touches.
The location is superb!
We enjoyed sitting by the water's edge with a glass of wine and the fire pit. I will come again.

My wife and I wanted a nice clean home for a few days, and we were quite pleased with the accommodations in East Blue Hill. We had everything we needed. Stephen and Caryl were very nice people, and made our stay a very pleasant one.
My husband and I went up to hike in/around Acadia for a few days. This was a lovely spot to stay! Caryl and her husband were so kind and welcoming, giving us plenty of tips on where to go and what to see, included us in their evenings if we felt up to it, and answering all of our questions. The one thing that could’ve improved our stay would be cable/streaming services like a Roku, to watch a movie at night- but far from a dealbreaker. We would definitely go back!
