About this property

Cottage with a Vista

Charming, cozy, newly-renovated cottage with beautiful vistas. Less than an hour to Acadia National Park and just a few minute walk to the lovely Morgan Bay.

The cottage is elegant as well as rustic. A rare combination of nature, comfort and class. The cottage is located on an old Maine farm. A unique performing arts center is located a few hundred feet away. A lovely meditation center is also just a few minutes walk down the road.

There is a piano in cottage for anyone who wants to explore expressing themselves in music.

This apartment is located in a spacious, newly-renovated Maine barn on a beautiful and historic farm. It is a five minute walk to nearby scenic Morgan Bay, very close to hiking trails, biking and swimming. Acadia National Park is about 45 minutes away.

The farm offers a seasonal performing arts center featuring classical, jazz, singer songwriter and blues series among others.

Few rental spaces offer all of this in a ten-minute radius.

Pets: Dogs and cats are welcome, but you must contact me in advance so we can discuss details. Upon approval, there is an additional cleaning fee of $50.00 for the one pet or $80 for two pets. The fee for the first pet is included in your VRBO total. If bringing more than one pet, the additional pet fee is payable in cash at checkout. Stays longer than 7 days will need to discuss possible additional pet cleaning fees with the host. Please note that many animals live near the property and frequently walk through it (such as deer, wild turkeys, neighbors' cats, etc.) A porcupine lives under one of the barns, so we recommend keeping dogs on a leash when outside to avoid injury.

Late arrivals after 9:00 PM are subject to a late fee of $25.00.

Additional guests: For more than 2 guests, there is an additional fee of $25 per guest per night.

We communicated with the host, Alan, that we would be a late arrival. He was very pleasant to deal with and assured us that he would be there to check us in and show us the cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and it was very comfortable. I enjoyed seeing deer on the property and listening to the birds. It made me feel like I was in my own backyard, on my deck, in Wisconsin.

Just a night in Maine

Property was beautiful, very picturesque. The cabin had all the necessities and even a beautiful piano play. We brought our two dogs and there was plenty of room in the cozy cabin.

We experienced a delay on the way to the property, but Alan was very accommodating. The cabin was very neat and had all the amenities. It was ideally located between Blue Hill, where we were visiting friends, and Acadia, where we went for a day trip. The kitchen had all the cookware and dishes we needed. The bathroom was supplied with everything we needed and the bed was super-comfortable. The cool breezes at night allowed us to sleep peacefully through the night and awaken to a great view of Cadillac Mountain. Next time we are in the area we will definitely look into staying at this Cottage with a Vista!

Stillness in Surry

My husband and I found the cottage very comfortable and the location ideal for us. Peaceful and serene views all around. Close proximity to our friends in East Blue Hill. Made a trip to Acadia and Deer Isle. Very satisfying. Thank you to our host Alan for making it so easy for us to relax.

Our time at the cottage was wonderful! My boyfriend and I stayed for 4 nights over 3 days. The location is convenient for hiking, exploring, and of course Bar Harbor/Acadia. Alan was helpful during check in and offered his help whenever needed. The cottage was clean and well managed with cute decor! Overall a fantastic stay and would absolutely return in the future!

What a great isolated place to stay

It's a great place to get away from spending the days in bar harbor and Acadia, while also getting the added benefit of being close to great local small towns that also have lots to offer.

Cozy cottage in beautiful surroundings

We enjoyed our stay in Alan’s cozy cottage. It is beautiful. It had such a comfortable bed (the bed should have its own five star rating!). The kitchen was well equipped with essentials for us such as coffee maker, filters, mugs, plates, microwave, and more. It was a great place to come back to after days of exploring Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. Alan is a very responsive host and we enjoyed meeting him.

View is great!

Great place to stay if you want to be close to Acadia Park, Bar Harbor, and other places to explore in Maine. There was a bit of accommodation mix up, but the host (Alan) helped us get it figured out. It's been years since I've seen the Milky Way and so many stars that you can't even see the dark sky at night. Super quiet place, friendly people, wonderful place to get away from the daily grind.

Decent place! Best for location

Perfect little spot if you value location as top priority. The area has other cottages nearby. There are many windows so you can have a lot of natural light. The lighting at night is also very good. Our only issues were the kitchen being too small for us and the amenities said there’s an oven but it’s actually a toaster oven. There is only stove top fyi. We were also a little disappointed about the overall cleanliness of the place as we found a lot of dusty areas

New Year Stay

The location was great except that we were under the impression it was closer to Acadia. Our own fault for not mapping it out entirely. The checkin process was a bit confusing. We reached out the day prior but never heard back. When 5 min out I messaged again but no response prior to arrival at the previously noted checkin time. The parking description both on here and in the cabin advise to park on the grass to the left of the cabin. That spot does not exist though so it left us a bit stumped as to the best place to park a full size truck. We made our way into the cabin by guessing if it was open or not. It was and we let ourselves in. The host called me after we were in and was very pleasant to talk with. The heat was at 50 upon arrival so that was a bit of a challenging way to start when arriving to a cabin at the end of December. The heat pump had to be turned on and off a few times to get it to push heat, after that it was heating by the time we were leaving for dinner. I gave 3 stars for cleanliness because I had to wash the shower floor and sink out as they didn’t appear to have been cleaned. The shower (and toilet) when turned on left black particles all over the floor, that stopped after it ran for a bit though. All in all we had a great stay and the view is beautiful but I cannot say we would be back during the off season.

Quaint, comfortable and clean accommodations away from the crowds and traffic of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor but close enough to enjoy all that Acadia and Bar Harbor have to offer. A very relaxing place to come home to after a day of hiking and exploring. The host was readily available to answer any questions and offer suggestions on places to visit if asked. There was plenty of space to walk our dog and she also felt at home. To our delight and pleasant surprise there was a wonderful classical music concert one of the nights we were staying there at the performance Barn on the property!

About the host

Hosted by Property Manager/Owner

Host profile image
I have lived on this property for close to 40 years. I am originally from South Shore, Long Island, near New York City. In my younger years I lived, worked and went to university in New York City. I have pioneered the field of music therapy in the state of Maine, both on the higher academic levels and in terms of interesting and far reaching clinical projects.

For the last 6-7 years I have put my time and energy into developing a seasonal performing arts project (www.surryartsandevents.com). In addition, I have found I am well-suited for hospitality and have been successful in running three popular VRBO/AirBNB rentals. I know the area well, and like to share what I know with others. We are a 5-6 minute walk to the coast and well situated between two great towns, Blue Hill and Ellsworth. We are in close proximity to Acadia National Park, which draws millions of visitors every year before, after and during the pandemic. Finally, I very much want to be part of the solution, not the problem, so we follow all State of Maine CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

I try my very best to assist guests in every way possible. I very much want to share this beautiful area and see people having fulfilling visits and experiences.
