About this property

Boat Watchers Paradise-Amazing Views on the Muskegon Channel-A Private Haven!

Welcome to The Channel House! We are excited to offer this unique and very private space for you to create fabulous family vacation memories.

Perched atop the highest point on the Muskegon Channel, this updated, cozy and serene home is quite the special find. Enjoy a very private space with 180 degree views from Muskegon Lake in the east to Lake Michigan in the west. The house sits alone, high on a bluff so the amazing views belong to you and you alone.

The Channel House is a boat watcher's paradise with the Muskegon Channel providing a continuous panoramic show. Enjoy an endless parade of watercraft, including huge freighters and tug/barges, Great Lakes cruise ships, six viewings a day of the “Lake Express,” the cross lake ferry, a multitude of pleasure and sport boats, sailing vessels, yachts and personal watercraft. You’ll be amazed and entertained and there is no other view on the channel like it. Have a seat on one of the three decks and enjoy the show!

The Channel House features a large and very private yard overlooking the channel with a rustic fire-pit and plenty of room to play, hammock, play yard games and enjoy outdoor dining and relaxing.

If you love sunsets then you'll find this a special place to view spectacular sunsets that set the sky ablaze. Each sunset is a work of art with vivid colors that linger on for longer than you might think. If you are very lucky you may get to witness an extra special sunset on the Channel. When the conditions are just right the entire channel will light up in pinks, oranges and purples, an absolutely breathtaking natural spectacle.

When the fresh cool lake breezes are not enough to keep you comfortable, we have installed air conditioning units on both levels of the home. There is a ceiling fan in the main living room and the upstairs master bedroom, with table and floor fans available if needed.

There is plenty to do in the area to make those great vacations memories. It’s only a short walk to Michigan’s best beach-Pere Marquette on Lake Michigan. The sugar sand beach is very clean and regularly groomed and sifted. There is a large play structure for the little ones as well as restrooms and concession area. Play in the water, build a sandcastle, fly a kite, take a kite-boarding lesson, rent a boat, seadoo or paddleboard and so much more.

Harbour Towne Beach is a short walk in the other direction and sits on the shore of Muskegon Lake. If the “Big Lake” is too rough or cold, consider Harbour Towne Beach. Both beaches are very walk-able, however if you have little ones and a bunch of gear, consider driving. Parking at both beaches is pay at the parking kiosk.

Walk the entire length of the paved channel and take a tour of the lighthouse at the west end. It’s quite a climb up and it’s not for the faint of heart but well worth the view. Bring your fishing pole and do some channel fishing-license is required.

For history buffs, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is a stone’s throw away and a big feature in your backyard view. Consider visiting for a great day of WWII submarine history.

We have a fantastic seasonal restaurant within walking distance from The Channel House. The Deck sits right on the beach at Pere Marquette to the north of the Pier. The menu consists of smoked meats and sauces with delicious sides and a variety of other items. The Deck features live music every night and afternoons on Sundays and has quickly become a destination spot in and of itself. For those familiar with our area, Dockers restaurant is no more :( However, it has been purchased and being revamped by the folks that own The Deck and will be opening as BoDocks in 2026.

For boaters, a launch ramp is available at Harbour Towne Marina for a daily fee. There are several other nearby boat launch sites along the Muskegon Lake shoreline. If you have a large watercraft, consider a transient slip at Harbour Towne Marina, availability may be limited however.

If you’d like to venture farther out, consider visiting our revitalized Downtown Muskegon area with unique restaurants, craft breweries and makers of distilled spirits, cute shops as well as a terrific Farmer’s Market. Downtown Muskegon is now home to Lake Michigan's newest marina at Adelaide Pointe which hosts a great new restaurant The Muskegon Brewing Company-boasting amazing views of Muskegon Lake from their large balcony dining area. Heritage Landing hosts many summertime activities and festivals. Michigan’s Adventure Amusement and Water Park is a 30 minute drive for a full day of family fun and West Michigan has many quaint towns to visit along the coast.

Come stay at The Channel House and experience all that West Michigan has to offer: Brilliant Beaches and Fun Festivals, Miles and Miles of nature and bike trails, parks and dunes, restaurants and breweries. Your hosts are always happy to recommend any number of activities for you to enjoy.

About the host

Hosted by Chuck and Kathy

Host profile image
The owners are both West Michigan natives. Chuck grew up in Whitehall and Kathy was born and raised just a few miles away from The Channel House in Lakeside. We have lived in different areas of the country but have found that Muskegon and West Michigan is simply "home" and has so much to offer year round.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this property when it was in a state of pure potential. The privacy, views and location are absolutely amazing and instantly won us over. We have spent a large amount of time living in and updating this home and can say without reservation that we truly love being at The Channel House. One of my very favorite things about this property is the boat watching. I have a Marine Traffic tracker app on my phone that I use to track when the “Big Boys” are heading through the channel. I love watching the variety of boats from the vantage that the home sits, above it all. You are at eye level to some of the bigger boats and can even get them to blow their horns if you can catch their attention. The channel is wonderfully busy during the summer and yet it is very peaceful and relaxing to watch all that activity from the comfort of The Channel House.

What makes this property unique
