Step through a storybook archway gate (complete with green, vining foliage), and you’ll find yourself transported: shaded bistro table on the right, lavender on the left, and bouquets of white roses straight ahead. Up three, wide flagstone steps, input a quick door code (last four of your phone number), then you’re inside. Drop your bags and relax. The hard part is over. Now for the fun to begin.
Sun Room
Stepping into our Sun Room, notice how you immediately feel cool, like a sea breeze is whipping around your hair. That’s our central air-conditioning, which is available year-round; set it to whatever you’d like. To your right is our book nook with big windows and a bookshelf stocked with beach reads. Sit on a velvet chair at the café table and have a coffee, journal, or take advantage of our fast wifi. Across the way to your left is a cozy, elevated daybed with tons of pillows. If you’d like some privacy or want to turn the space into a bedroom, two French doors can shut the Sun Room off from the Living Room so you can sleep on the trundle daybed (pull out its lower twin, if you need the extra bed). PSA to light sleepers: note the white noise machine on the console table.
Bedrooms
Three bedrooms are all just about the same size (so there won’t be a fight over who gets the master suite). High ceilings, fans, wooden hangers in closets, queen-sized beds, and light streaming through the tall windows. Our curtains aren’t blackout, but they are gorgeous. Note the fresh sheets, photo art displaying natural scenes local to the area, designer-selected carpets, clothes storage, and luggage stands. Find extra blankets and pillows in the bedroom closets along with cleaning supplies, like broom and dustpan, if the mood to sweep should strike you (I hope it doesn’t). There’s a queen-sized SoundAsleep dream series air mattress with ComfortCoil tech & built-in high capacity pump located in the back-bedroom closet (sheets are nearby in a basket).
Living room
A sectional couch with a queen-sized pull-out bed wraps around a smart TV offering cable and streaming services (like Netflix and Max). On the TV stand, there’s also a Bluetooth sound system, a router, and, inside, loads of games for all ages. Lift up the chaise lounge part of the couch to find a blanket, pillows, a duvet, and duvet cover. To disinfect soft furnishings, all of our upholstery is regularly steam-cleaned with a commercial grade steamer. Two French doors can shut the Living Room off from the Kitchen so you can sleep on the sofa bed in privacy.
Dining room
A long wooden table seats ten with comfy chairs and custom, pendulum lighting. Table mats, table cloths, and a child’s clip-on high chair are located in the heirloom hutch. Tempting you to take silly, family photos, are DIY photo-booth props on a nearby stand.
Kitchen
A breakfast bar with three high, comfy chairs beckons. Find a gas range, farm sink, microwave, stainless steel knife set, cookware, bakeware, plateware, salt, pepper, olive oil, and cutlery to serve 10. Guests routinely thank us for our well-stocked kitchen. For our caffeinated guests, we offer:
Cuisinart Coffee Maker (fully automatable, drip coffee)
Rotating coffee options: Keats & Co via Awesome Coffee, Kicking Horse Coffee Hola, Whole Food organic light roast, etc
Rotating tea options: Pique brand crystal organic tea including Jasmine, English Breakfast, Mint, etc
Anthony's Organic Cane Sugar, Gluten Free & Non GMO
Off the kitchen, there’s a laundry room with state of the art washer and dryer. Laundry pods, body soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, dish soap, trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels, kitchen towels, and even an umbrella (in the very rare case it rains) all available to you, gratis. Whenever possible, we source cruelty-free and sustainable B Corps products (Public Goods, Betterway Bamboo, Dropps, etc.)
Bathrooms
Jack-and-Jill (connecting two queen rooms) full bathroom with dual sinks, mirrors, cotton balls, Q-tips, good lighting, and walk-in shower.
Also off the kitchen, a full bathroom with claw-foot tub bath plus overhead shower with a handheld/detachable shower head.
Are you thinking of bringing kids? Bring ‘em. We love kids (so long as they aren't stuffing macaroni in the couch cushions QQ)
We offer a step stool, Pack ’n Play with sheet and mattress cover (check the back bedroom’s closet); clip-on high chair; kid plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, and even a silicone bib (check the kitchen cupboards). Last but not least, Sun Room’s bookshelf has children’s books, building blocks, activity books, and crayons.
Parking
Lots of off-street parking here. Three or more cars fit in the driveway.
Backyard
Private deck, patio, hot tub, sago palm, sun shade, Weber Grill complete with BBQ utensil set, and a long table that seats ten. Avocado and mandarin fruit trees (the latter hangs over from our neighbor’s yard). Pick whatever’s ripe. When it cools down in the evenings, hop in the Verona 6 person spa, it’s got multi-color LED lights, jets, and the tiniest, cascading waterfall in the world. Find spa towels (blue stripes) in the bin next to the spa.
Adventuring
Our main thoroughfare, State Street, is one block away with cafés, fine dining spots, wine tasting rooms, retail stores, museums, movie theaters, and more. West Beach and Stearns Wharf are 0.8 miles or 1.3 kilometers away and reachable via walking along a pedestrian path or by car/bus; Leadbetter surf break is just beyond. Check our digital Welcome Book for details about farmers markets, craft shows, hiking trails, and whatever the heck the Funk Zone is.
Make yourself at home; message me if you need anything; and soak in some sunny, Santa Barbara vibes.
The Fine Print aka House Rules
I will go above and beyond to help you have a happy and fulfilling vacation. I mean, I’m a Happiness Engineer; your happiness is basically my job. And that means being upfront about boundaries: so you can plan ahead, so there aren’t any surprises, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Here’s the thing. Being the fantabulous La Maison rental house that we are, we are booked 24/7. That means there’s very little time to get our maintenance workers, cleaners, contractors, property manager, and little elves in and out of the property to make it all sparkling and clean and looking good enough to meet our boss’s standards (she has some Everest-level standards!). So please note that:
There's no early check-in option
There’s no late check-out option
I don’t have a fetish for telling people no. Believe you me, I want to say yes! YES! All the time! “Go for it, my friend!” But, for some things, it’s imperative to consider liability costs as well as my neighbors’ right to peace and quiet. So, here’s the no list:
No illegal drugs, guns, vaping, or smoking of any sort (subject to fine)
No trash left in the house or on the property (subject to fine)
No option to store luggage before or after check-in or out
No option to park your car in the driveway before or after check-in or out
No oversized vehicles or camper vans in the driveway
No rehearsal dinners, parties, or events of any sort
No music outdoors after 10:00 pm or before 8:00 am
No companion animals
No confetti or tape on the walls (it pulls off the paint)
No guests visiting the property (unless disclosed in advance and pre-approved)
No recording for business purposes
There’s a fee per person after the 6th person (this is to cover utility costs and other stuff)
There are three Nest cameras that record streaming video and sound (doorbell, driveway, back patio). I only check these when my spidey sense tingles. Please, don’t make my spidey sense tingle. It’s the worst. And I only want the best for you, your friends, your family, and your service animals. Especially your service animals. They are the absolute best.
