About this property
Victorian Lakefront Cottage With Spectacular Sunrise View Of Water
Located in the heart of New England, Spofford Lake is 7 miles east of Brattleboro, VT and 9 miles west of Keene, NH. We are only 30 minutes away from Mount Monadnock, ATV friendly Pisgah State Park and numerous orchards, wineries and popular daytrip foliage routes. Mount Washington, Franconia Notch and hundreds of other tourist sites are close by for a daytrip. Lifelong resident hosts are available to help plan your individual itinerary.
Lake Amenities: Lake Spofford is known for its Bass and Great Northern Pike fishing. Swimming in the crystal clear water is wonderful. Private, 50’ waterfront located in front of cottage across Rt. 63. The road runs between the row of cottages and the shore at this point. Modern, private dock accommodates your boat, jet skis, etc. along with our 4 kayaks and a paddleboat. Dog friendly, sit-in kayaks are new for 2025. The State boat launch is a 5 minute commute across the lake. Pierce Island State Park, with abundant blueberry bushes, is just 800 feet from our waterfront. Our screened porch provides views of beautiful sunrises over the sparkling lake water.
Parking: There is one front parking spot across the road from the cottage, just above the waterfront. There is parking for 4-5 more cars just off of the back road behind the cottage. Further parking for your boat trailers and/or ATV haulers is located further uphill.
Location: Historic, spring-fed Spofford Lake is located 9 miles west of Keene, NH and 7 miles east of Brattleboro, VT, along Rt 9 & Rt 63, in the Monadnock Region. Lake Spofford received the State’s highest rating for clean water in 2005.
Accommodations: Grey Rustic Victorian lakefront cottage on the west shore of Lake Spofford with 4 bedrooms and 1 bathroom (sleeps 4-8). The cottage is heated by a propane log stove in front of the old brick fireplace and area space heaters, as needed.
Kitchen w/double sink, dishwasher, gas range, refrigerator and microwave. Washing machine and dryer located in kitchen; plumbing limits washing machine to 2 loads a day. Propane hot-water heater. Deck with gas grill located at side of cottage outside of front room door.
Bathroom located on second floor has a shower, sink w/vanity and toilet. Toilet is on a septic tank.
Dining room located between living room and kitchen. Desk w/broadband hookup located in front room. Staircase to second floor located between Dining room and Front room. Stairs are steep but we have installed extra hand-grips.
Cable TV/DVD player on one side of front room. Fireplace w/propane heater located in center of room.
2 doors from Front room lead on to screened porch on front and side of cottage. Porch is furnished with antique rockers and white wicker furniture on one side and patio table on the other side.
4 bedrooms located upstairs. 1 queen bed and 3 double beds. 2 upstairs bedrooms are rustic, open to the rafters.
Linens and towels are supplied; we ask that they be left clean.
No smoking; pets are OK with pet deposit. Children are OK but must be supervised due to the road in front, the lake and the antiques. It is not OK to flush diapers due to the plumbing.
Due to the close proximity of neighboring cottages, we would request that noise be kept to a minimum, i.e. please do not play loud music. Local zoning does not allow fireworks in the neighborhood but areas across the lake often host private displays.
A quiet, wooded, half-mile gravel roadway up in back can be a delightful way to exercise your dog.
There is no telephone at the cottage. The owners use cell phones.

About the host
Hosted by Lyle Foley
3rd generation Spofford Lake Cottage owner. My grandparents came to this lake in the 1920's. My parents, aunt and cousin have cottages. We purchased our first cottage in 1999. We live in Massachusetts in the winter.
Why they chose this property
This cottage has land that is contiguous to my parent's cottage located two doors away. This row of Victorian Cottages all have 50 feet of frontage on Lake Spofford and spectacular lake views from their Victorian Front Porches.
What makes this property unique
50 feet of private waterfront, private dock, wonderful view of lake from front porch.
This cottage lot is the largest in the neighborhood and has ample parking for cars and large boat trailers.
