EL YUNQUE NATIONAL RAINFOREST EXCLUSIVE BUNGALOW ROOF TERRACE APARTMENT!!!
Our property is located 300 meters (+/- 1000 feet) above sea level secluded at the edge of the El Yunque National Forest, one of the most important rainforest ecosystem in the national park inventory. The flora and the fauna are particular to the damp environment, in particular the coqui, a very small frog and the different types of lizards, exhuberant firns and exotic heliconias and bambues populate the landscape around us.
The apartment is located in the bungalow guest house adjacent to the house in which we live. We have been here since 20 years ago enjoying our 3 daughters, nature, my wife's organic vegetable garden, exotic flowers and fruits and the most incredible scenery you can imagine.
The apartment at the guest house is fully equipped to relax and enjoy your stay in the rain forest. The bedroom has a queen size bed that sleeps 2 plus a full futon which sleeps 1 more: In total it sleeps 3. 4 is too tight!
Unfortunately the apartment, the roof terrace and the surroundings are NOT child proof so, please, NO children under sixteen are allowed. It is ideal for a couple hideaway or for a small family adventure. It has a fully equipped kitchenette (separate from the bedroom), with a wooden dinning table to enjoy your meals, card games and conversations overlooking the vegetable garden, the mountains and the ocean. A fantastic private terrace above the apartment is ideal for BBQ's, watching spectacular sunsets, star gazing or as your own solarium. Our small, but wonderful family pool and spacious sun terrace is available for our guests.
There are many to do things such as sightseeing and adventures, some within walking distance and some at the most 45 minutes away. But one of the best is just dedicating one day to stay home and enjoy the rainforest and it's magic. For more info visit us at KOKIANOHA in FBook, like and share with your friends and family . Please check-out the albums for adventures and sightseeing suggestions as well as our guests'posts

We had an excellent stay! The host was incredibly responsive, kind, and made sure everything was smooth from check-in to check-out. The apartment was spotless, comfortable, and exactly as described. It was perfect and the space had everything we needed for a relaxing visit. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend this host and apartment to anyone looking for a great experience.

Thank you SO much for your kind words, they mean a lot to us!
We had an amazing stay! The apartment had an amazing view, checking in and out was very simple. Easy access to great hiking trails and the hosts were great. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
The apartment is very charming and the hosts are lovely and helpful. The location is great. You feel like you are off the beaten path in the rainforest, but it's not too far from Luquillo and hiking. Our only complaint is that the bed was quite hard. I usually like a firm mattress, but this was too hard even for me. I found sleeping on the futon more comfortable.
Esteban was a wonderful host! He was very communicative, accommodating, kind, and welcoming. After flight cancellations and a traveling experience from HELL last week, VRBO gave me the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with. Esteban made up for it and was super helpful, this guy rocks!
Esteban and his wife offered the perfect rainforest getaway for this VRBO property. Fun location within the National Forest bounds. The apartment is beautifully designed. Also clean as a pin. Nature is everywhere. I’m greatful to have had this experience.

The best views ever!
We loved staying in this little hideaway gem! The hosts were very accommodating and gracious, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. With the light showers in the morning we saw the most awesome rainbows, sometimes even double rainbows!!! We were happy to have rented a car, so we could visit the area, go to the city or the beach. Loved it and will come back!

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you were able to see the "Good Luck" double rainbows.
We enjoyed sharing with you and building great memories about your travels around the world. Next time make sure you plan to visit the nearby rainforest trail and the wonderful cascades and ponds hidden in the forest. Looking forward to seeing you again!!!
There’s no word to describe this place enough. For me it has not only been an amazing experience ,but also a very spiritual one. The view is outstanding! The peace is priceless. I really thanks the owners for letting us stay . If you are looking for peace and quiet , this is the place. Very healing ! Thanks
The property is stunning. The gardens are beautiful (thanks Magdalena). The views from the terrace are amazing. Every night we fell asleep to sounds of the coquis. The place was clean, well-appointed, and tastefully decorated. The bathroom is perfect. The owner, Esteban, is very attentive. He provided great tips for exploring the Yunque and the casita also had a chalkboard with recommendations for places to visit. Don’t rely on the GPS to get there! Make sure you read the message from the host that’s sent the night before check-in for details on how to arrive. That tip was very helpful. Otherwise, it was super easy to find. So much to explore right off of carretera 186. Gracias, Esteban, por todo!

Michelle and her friend Jackie were excellent guests, it was wonderful to host them.
First, they were super simpáticas and with very very nice vibes. They were quiet, relaxed, polite, respectful and left the apartment in very good conditions.
They are welcome back anytime again!
Our hosts were helpful in finding dwellings which are located up in the hills of the rainforest. We had the upper level bungalow with a roof top terrace. The views over the valley are breathtaking. At night you can see the glow of SanJuan in the distance. Simple kitchen good for light meals as we enjoyed tranquil nights to the call of the coqui (forest tree frog). Here you are centrally located and an hour drive to many attractions, El Yunque main entrance, Luquillo Beach, Fajardo, Palmas Del Mar! Esteban and his wife were gracious host! Highly recommended location!!!!
Thank you SO much for choosing to stay at our place in the rainforest and we hope you take nice memories of Puetto Rico. Have safe travels!

The perfect location, the most gracious hosts, and a gorgeous home. The perfect trip in all respects
We had a great time staying in this El Yunque bungalow. The property was stunning, and the bungalow itself was cozy and had a kitchen with everything we could need, a bedroom with AC (which we didn't need/use), a very nice bathroom, and the perfect little roof to take in the views. Our hosts were gracious, welcoming, and full of helpful tips and advice. I would recommend this trip to anyone--and am likely to return.

Beautiful location, marvelous hosts
We enjoyed our stay here very much. The property is gorgeous and very well-maintained. You will have your choice of extreme relaxation and solitude or adventures galore within El Yunque and the surrounding area. Beaches are a short drive away; ALL is a short drive away! The journey up and down the mountain to come and go is an endearing adventure involving trust in your fellow man as well as the rental car's suspension!
Your hosts are lovely and unobtrusive - available if needed. Esteban is clearly passionate about sharing his home, and all it has to offer, with his guests. I know he loves his home, his family and his island; he wants everyone to enjoy the many offerings of Puerto Rico.
With every visit to this truly enchanted island, I find myself more and more envious of the culture which defines these lovely, loving, kind and friendly folks. We are blessed to have Puerto Rico as our friend, and we must treasure her. Esteban and his family are marvelous ambassadors.

Great way to experience the rainforest
Our family of 4 enjoyed staying in this guest house in the rain forest. We especially appreciated the comfortable beds, privacy, pool and being able to prepare most of our meals in the little kitchen. Esteban was a friendly and helpful host. We feel lucky to have been able to stay here!

Welcoming hosts, peaceful Haven away from it all enjoying nature! Gorgeous grounds!
We had an amazing stay for about a week in this rainforest bungalow. They had everything we needed from extra pillows to basic needs in the house. The two terraces were very private overlooking the city lights at night and had tables for us to eat. We saw several coqui frogs on the premises and enjoyed birds chirping.
Two min away was Toro trail. There were no tourists on this since it's no longer an official trail but was safe for us 3 including our 9 y.o. Also had local panderias 15 min from house in rainforest with great snacks. We tried to make sure we got home before 7 since it's a curvy dark road, but found roads 186 and 196 not bad. Well worth the drive up there.
We asked our hosts if we could get married just us on their terrace. They were happy to let us and the space was big enough outside for our minister Ogla and photographer. It looked like it was going to rain so they let us use their personal terrace with a roof and we had a lovely ceremony over the trees. I had the best pictures by their lit pool and well kept garden. My daughter even enjoyed playing with their daughter, and they shared some Of their great homemade cheese. They truly made us feel like we were on a secluded paradise for our wedding and honeymoon.

Amazing Experience
Everything was amazing about our stay here. Esteban and his wife were great hosts. They answered any questions we had and were friendly and fun to talk to. The guesthouse was a great experience. You're minutes away from the rainforest and the view from the property is amazing. You can see out onto part of the rainforest and even part of the city and shoreline in the far off distance. There's a nice private rooftop patio onto of the guest house that you can enjoy with privacy, a great spot for a drink and enjoying the view. Inside you get a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. A very nice amount of space and amenities for the price, there isn't a better deal. The futon might be a bit small for four depending on their ages, that'd be my only caution. Everything else though was perfect and added a lot of memories to our honeymoon!

Amazing getaway in the middle of the rainforest!
Esteban and his family went above and beyond to welcome us and help us get the most out of our 3-night stay in El Yungue. He gave us pointers and directions to nearby sites, and we had a wonderful time exploring the rainforest and surrounding area. We were even able to find our own private waterfall and wading pools away from tourists. The bungalow is PERFECT, with everything you need to relax, cook, and feel at home. The views from the bungalow were breathtaking, and we enjoyed breakfast on the upper terrace every morning. This place is lovely, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the El Yungue region of Puerto Rico, relax, and get away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding cities. We hope to return in the future! Thanks to Esteban and his family for the warm hospitality.

Beautiful and quiet stay
If you are looking for getting away from the busy life of the city... This is it! It's a beautiful apt/house deep inside the rain forest. Don't use Google.. or think you can wing it. Google maps is not well versed in Puerto Rico. Literally use the directions provided by the host and you'll be fine (which means stick to the 185 and 186 roads). The apt is very well equipped with pretty much any amenity you can imagine. I loved the thoughts that went into pretty much every corner of the place. The design is playful and beautiful! The host family is wonderful. I ended up talking to them in the afternoons and I felt I was part of their family. In terms of food, there is a small but well stocked grocery store near the 185-186 intersection. Just look for Supermercado on your Google maps and you'll find it. I ended up getting some good there and found some BBQ in the afternoon. I honestly wanted to get away from the city and feel calm. This place did it and was phenomenal! Coming back next year.

Perfection
Absolutely loved our experience!! We only stayed 3 nights, but we wish we could've stayed longer! An amazing view to wake up to, and to watch the stars and the twinkling city lights at night. The house was so unique and had everything we needed. We bought groceries and cooked most of our meals, but ate dinner out a few times. Great location- we were able to hike El Yunque and Toro during the days, spent an evening in Old San Juan, and even fit in some shopping at the nearby outlet mall. Esteban and Magdalena are so down to earth, their family made our stay even more special because they are so fun to be around!

Absolutely beautiful!
From the breathtaking views to the relaxing, magical accommodations, we enjoyed every moment we were here. Our wonderful hosts made us feel so welcome and recommended so many fun things to see and do... including taking time to relax and take in the beauty of the rainforest and its waterfalls. We loved everything about this vacation and hope to return soon. We miss our new friends already! Thank you, Esteban and Magdalena, from our hearts to yours.

About the host
Hosted by Esteban Sennyey
Magdalena and I are both architects and are both in love with nature. She obtained her Masters in Architecture at the University of Puerto Rico and I obtained my Masters at Cornell University. In 2001 we opened our private practice and I also teach at the University of Puerto Rico since 1988. As a full professor I have been appointed Associate Dean and Acting Dean as well as president of the Personnel Commitee. I teach an undregraduate architectural design studio as well as a professional practice course at the graduate level. My passion is drawing and sketching and taking my students to sketch in Old San Juan as well as organize travelling studios to Europe. My wife's passion is gardening and has an organic vegetable and spice garden. Our daughters are 27, 15 and 8. The eldest one lives in London developing her theater career, the middle sibling is in a specialized music school developing her voice (she is a soprano) and the youngest one is in gymnastics. Our profession and our daughters keep us very busy during the week and during the weekends we love to stay home and work in the gardens and maintaining our property which is about an acre of land. 1n 1999 we built the guest house with the 2 purposes: One, to become a refuge in case of a very strong hurricane (since our home is made out of wood) and second, for our family to stay when they came to visit. We always had comments on why didn't we rent our guest house apartment to tourists since the place is so beautiful: the surrounding rainforest is magestic and our place is magical, quiet and so relaxing. Well after many years of attempts to convince us, we have decided to give-it a try: Rent to special people who want to stay and enjoy the wonders of the tropical rainforest and if they desire I can take them to a very special day tour to Old San Juan, or the Yunque National Forest trails or organize them a unforgettable sailing trip.
Come visit our place and enjoy and see Puerto Rico in a whole different way!
Why they chose this property
There may very well be other properties for vacation rental in the rainforest, however ours is the greates because of the following 3 aspects: 1) It is located 300 m (+/- 900 ft) above sea level (higher than the other rentals) which is a privilege because of the magnificent views, air and sun. 2) It is located 30 to 45 minutes away from most of the best sightseeing places or adventures you might want to visit or experience in Puerto Rico. 3) We live in the property which will give you added benefits of advise in terms of places to see or things to do and maybe the opportunity to share and become friends
