Surf Song, in Princeville Kauai, is a luxury private licensed vacation rental home with four air conditioned bedrooms and four ensuite bathrooms. It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific ocean on the iconic North Shore of Kauai. Enjoy ocean vistas from almost every room of this pristine, modern yet tranquil home while listening to the relaxing sound of waves breaking on the shore below. With a 10 minute walk to a secluded beach, yet within a pleasant walk or bike ride (plenty of bikes provided) of Princeville's full facilities, this is the perfect retreat. So many of the beautiful places and beaches that Kauai has to offer are close at hand, but you may just find that all you want to do is stay and enjoy!

Surf Song is centered on an expansive, vaulted great room which opens fully to the wide oceanside lanai. Adjacent on the ocean are an ultra modern, fully equipped chef's kitchen and an entertainment area with new, high-end electronics. Two oceanfront master suites offer ocean sights and sounds from both bedrooms and bathrooms. All four bedrooms are air-conditioned with silent, individually controlled systems. Each has a luxury, modern ensuite bathroom with pebble floors and Kohler/Grohe fixtures. Each has sliding doors opening to a lanai.

The home is equipped throughout with top of the line, genuine Tommy Bahama furniture. The atmosphere is one of casual, Plantation - style elegance. Lovely Sealodge beach ('A Real Gem' in the Kauai Revealed guidebook) is directly below the property and walkable in 5 or 10 minutes. (The path is steep in places and can be slippery when wet so runner type shoes are better than "slippahs"!). Full concierge services are available; Ocean or land activities, massage or private yoga on the oceanfront deck or private chef. Please ask the owner for more details. We would be delighted to help.

A perfect vacation spot

This is a beautiful home with an unbelievable view. The house has every amenity you want for a beach vacation. It is very well maintained and the outdoor space, including spa, large dining table, chairs and chaise lounges, are terrific. The best compliment I can offer is that we would definitely stay here again.

Property is better in person than in the photos. Layout was great for 3 generations on our family trip. Lots of beach toys in the garage for the kids. Comfortable beds. On suite bathrooms for every bedroom was really nice. Everything we needed. My only criticism would be the hard pillows. I would gladly book again!

Surf Song Review

We spent a wonderful week at Surf Song. The home is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and is above a small beach. The view from the lanai is spectacular, we saw whales every day. Princeville is a great location, Hanalei is a short drive and the NaPali Coast not much further. The owner is easy to work with and his local manager responds promptly if needed.

Magnificent Home

There were 11 of us in our party and we had plenty of room. The toys in the garage were a huge plus and cost savings. Simon has thought of most everything and was very helpful. We would all love to come back again.

It seems crazy to have to rent a surfboard for example at an inflated hourly rate when an owner can easily provide a selection of them. It's my pleasure to do so, in no small part because it gives me an excuse to go to the Surf Swap which takes place early on the first Saturday of every month - conveniently for my essential first coffee of the day on the lawn right outside the Hanalei Bread Company. Surfers love to upgrade so if you happen to be around on that first Saturday, it's a fun way to check out a different slice of local life and maybe get a great deal on a unique souvenir. Afterwards, head over to the Saturday Farmers Market. What could be better?

Can't wait to go back!

We are so happy we chose to stay at Surf Song for our vacation. It was the perfect get away for a couples stay! The location was close to everything and the house was exactly what we wanted.....very clean and nicely decorated. We spent the majority of the time relaxing on the deck and we now know why the name of the house is Surf Song....listening to the waves crash was very special. Simon was wonderful with quick responses and providing great recommendations for our stay. The kitchen was perfect for having a private chef come in to cook one night. We would for sure recommend Surf Song and hope to return in the future.

Best Vacation Ever!!!

The house is amazing and the views are stunning from every room. The labeling of everything and instructions were very helpful, they supplied all the necessities and were very responsive with any questions/communication. We loved our welcome basket too! The location and neighborhood are great. We had albatross nesting right outside our door (the way they greet each other was so fun to watch/hear) and we saw a couple whales surface at a distance from the balcony. There is a shopping area within walking distance and the views along the way are stunning. It was truly heaven on earth!

Princeville Rental Experience

The house location above the ocean was beautiful. We had a large group for our return trip to Kauai and the house easily accommodated all of us. We often ate at the large table on the deck in the mornings or relaxed listening to the waves in the evenings after a full day. The kitchen offers a nice variety of appliances and cookware we were able to use for a few meals made during our stay. The trail down to the cove below the house is one block over off of Keoniana Rd at the circle. The walk down and the trail itself can be challenging for those with mobility issues but offers a breathtaking view of the Pacific. During our stay an egg hatched to a pair of Albatross nesting in front of the house. We often took walks in the neighborhood and talked with others vacationing or living in the area. It is truly a wonderful location and experience to treasure.

Buyer Beware

Property was advertised to have air conditioning, it did not. One of the two main bathroom showers was actually outside, path to beach is not passable for anyone under the age of 12 and dangerous for adults as well. We were charged for items that were broken when we arrived, including the bed in guestroom and toaster. I would never recommend this house, Owner kept part of deposit for ridiculous reasons.

Oh Dear! Our first negative review. We’ll address the issues in the order raised: AIR CONDITIONING: Surf Song’s four bedrooms are now all air conditioned, but A/C was never offered to this guest as it wasn't yet planned in April 2015 when he booked. We had a very warm summer in 2015 and so decided to install A/C. It was installed when we had a gap in rentals after this guest's Fall 2015 stay. OUTDOOR SHOWER: The West ocean side master bedroom bathroom is indeed outside; in a fully enclosed extension of the bathroom at the same floor level, with delightful ocean views. It’s clearly shown in our photos and our guests love it, and as Surf Song now has four bathrooms, there are 3 indoor bathrooms as well. BEACH PATH: Below the house is one of the North Shore’s least used and most accessible footpath - only beaches. All Princeville beach accesses are steep in places and require care and sensible footwear. This access is partially paved and we the children have been happily using it since they were 6 and 8. DAMAGE is likely the reason for this negative review. We have found that our new system of a damage waiver at a modest cost makes for relaxing stays on both sides, so we no longer take damage deposits. Surf Song is not a party house but rather a beautiful place offering a breathtaking ocean view, for people to share a reserved experience, with a large group if desired. The large number of people staying here may have been focused more on partying than appreciating the beautiful premises and furnishings, as evidenced by significant damage, which was in fact observed mid stay. The damage charges we withheld from the deposit were less than half the actual costs of recovery and the guest was quickly sent photos, a very conservative estimated accounting and a refund of the balance. OUR HOPE is that potential guests will weigh this review against the many enthusiastic reviews, and rest assured that we are diligent in advertising and property management, and respectful in guest relations.Sincerely, Simon and family.

This home is lovely, we sure miss those views!

All along, Simon, the owner, was great to deal with, which made everything go so smoothly, and even was hands-on while we were on the island. The house is awesome, lots of space, clean, great bedding, and it has everything we needed. We loved the back deck and the large beautiful dining table outside. The grill is nice to be able to use. The hot tub was great. The weather was lousy, quite unusual apparently, as we never saw the sun! It was great to have all the bikes, boards and all other equipment available. The walk to the beach is a bit tricky and while we were there dangerously slippery so we were not able to use that beach at all, which also involves quite a bit of climbing over rocks anyways, so we just used our car and brought what we need to drive to any of the other beaches nearby on the rare occasion that it did not rain. Still had a great time and would recommend this wonderful house! It's 5 min from the grocery store and very conveniently located, if you want to be on the north side of the island.

Quiet retreat on the North Shore with plenty of room for everyone

My family, and my friends family had the privilege of staying in this home between March 16th and March 24, 2018. Although the weather was a challenge that week, we could not have been more comfortable than we were at Surf Song. One or 2 small issues arose, and Simon could not have been more responsive and helpful in addressing these. It was so nice to enjoy the large private lanai (from which we spotted many whales) and the double washer/dryer setup in the garage. The beds were among the most comfortable we have ever slept on and the bathrooms were especially luxurious. We all enjoyed the games and equipment provided in the home/garage. Despite the relentless rain, we all managed to have a great week at Surf Song! Of note, the trail down to the Sealodge beach was definitely for what we would consider "advanced" hikers. This group with two 7 year olds had to turn back because the last leg of the hike over the boulders was pretty treacherous. We were much happier at nearby Anini Beach.

We’re glad the these and other recent guests had a great time and appreciate all their kind comments, especially since several groups experienced some of the unusually wet weather we have had recently. These weather systems have been island if not State wide. Princeville, above the beaches and rivers, has been spared the worst, but Hanalei has at times been inaccessible due to bridge closures. Recently and sadly it suffered extensive flooding. This has been very untypical weather. It is not what you should expect for your vacation! The path to Sealodge Beach below Surf Song is slippy and best avoided in wet weather, but fine when it is dry. The descent over a few boulders onto the sand is short and straight forward when dry. Of course this is subjective but my kids have been going down since they were 6 and I still go often at 64. Sealodge is a great snorkeling beach on a calm day, and unusually secluded, but since Surf Song is surrounded by so many beautiful beaches, you can just look out at the ocean in the morning and enjoy picking the one that suits you best that day, according to weather and planned activities. Anini, close by and sheltered by the longest reef in Hawaii, is a great example which we love too.

We stayed at Surf Song for 1 week in July 2023. 7 adults and 3 kids age 14,11, and 6. Code we were given to enter front door didn’t work- we had to call and leave msg for property manager. They called back about 25 min later and gave us a new code. While we were waiting for the code one of us walked around to the back of the property and found the back slider was unlocked- upon further inspection it does not have a functioning lock so it remained unlocked during our stay. Door handle of door to outside shower was broken and we requested it be fixed. They sent a repair person on our second day. Well stocked with beach towels, toilet paper, kitchen utensils/appliances. We requested directions to beach from property management but they never responded despite multiple requests. We finally found online- Sea Lodge Beach via Sea Lodge condos trailhead. The view was unbelievable, and we spent much of our time outside. Bedroom ACs were a must for July, very nice to have. One washing machine is finicky but one of us had the magic touch to get it started each time.

For this much money*

Pros. Spectacular views, spacious home for a family of 8…on the deck and inside as well. Great location, very comfortable furniture and bedding. Perfect for family dinners inside and out. Ample parking for multiple cars. Cons… realizing inflation and demand pushed up rental prices, this was an expensive trip for our family. So we expected a bit more. We cook a lot…. So we were impacted by issues that could be easily remedied: New dishwasher: It’s very fussy and dated. New washer dryers: same… and one set seemed inoperable. Ice maker: perhaps the last guest was a big user of ice… but the ice maker couldn’t make ice for several days. Sprinkler system: ran all the time for hours BBQ. Starter didn’t work…needed a flame, and the one provided was used up. Grill is so old, I had to take grills off to get the flame to catch. It’s on a timer as well… which makes sense for a rental .. To be sure, for a family who ate out frequently, these would not be big issues. Would we come back yes… But for this price it be proper to service this lovely home a bit more often.

It’s all about the View

Walk in and be prepared to be awestruck by the million dollar view. With just a hint of the neighbor to the left, it is essentially a private outdoor space. With the living room doors completely open it becomes a vast indoor outdoor environment. (You do need to use the screens for flying insects.) The master to the right has the better bathroom but the one to the left has the outside bath. The en suite bathrooms were great for each family. The kitchen met all needs and Foodland was conveniently nearby. A prior review talked about updating the furniture and this had apparently been done by our visit. However the hammock pictured was only the frame and we were advised there was no hammock. We were provided with a YouTube video on how to get to the bay below. Ask for it and watch it to determine if the hike is worth your effort. We did private massages on the deck which was a perfect location. Yoga is great out there too. The hot tub was large and relaxing day and night. We were here for a wedding and if everyone has a car, parking can get tight. There is no on street parking in the community. The living room gets a bit dark at night as there is no overhead lighting so evening activities gravitated to the large dining room table. We were happy with our choice of stay and its contribution to our wedding memories.

Beautiful home, wonderful views, great owner!

We stayed at Surf Song the last 10 days in July. At the outset of our stay our host made sure to mention that he was a new owner and if there were any issues whatsoever, to mention them and he would personally attend to them. His intent was to make sure that the expectations of our stay “were exceeded in every way” – he certainly delivered. The property is beautiful and we found the location to be ideal. We spent most of our time on the island hiking and beaching on the north shore and the east shore of the island. Princeville is centrally located and easily accessible to both. The home was well stocked with just about everything we needed for the beach including: towels, a cooler, an umbrella, chairs, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, 2 surfboards, and even a couple wetsuits. We used the bikes to explore the neighborhood and for short trips to the grocery store. The new ping pong table was used for family tournaments in the evening and we used the new hot tub to relax after our hikes. A NanaWall (bi-fold glass panel wall) was recently installed that extends the entire length of the living room. When open, the living room becomes part of the deck overlooking the Pacific. It was an absolutely beautiful setting for our family activities. The home was in the final stages of renovation during our stay and there were workers there occasionally but they were discrete and usually only there when we were away. Simon, the owner, kept us well informed and went out of his way to make sure that their schedule worked around ours. We’re looking forward to seeing the completed renovation during our next trip to Kauai. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

I was touched when the whole family came out to help me choose the right bowls for the rain chains and appreciated your patience with such things as the new ping pong table being so new that you had to wait for me to assemble it.
