Jack's Cottage -Beautifully Restored Period Holiday Cottage in the Peak District
Jack's Cottage is a cosy holiday retreat for two located in the delightful, picturesque village of Longnor, in the heart of the Peak District. Bursting with character, and with original stone flagged floors, exposed beams and a working open range fireplace, the cottage also enjoys all the benefits of full central heating, a modern shower room, all essential appliances and free Wi-Fi, together with an enclosed sunny patio and garden.
With guests returning time after time, we are also thrilled that Jack's Cottage was described a 'a country cottage offering character, comfort and charm' in the Telegraph Travel online in August 2022 and also chosen as one of five cottages in Derbyshire and the Peaks featured in the Guardian Travel series 'Cool holiday cottages' which highlights "the most stylish and characterful hideaways in the United Kingdom" and was also one of the Sunday Times '50 Coolest Cottages in the UK'.
Arrive with just your suitcase: as well as the cottage providing everything you might need during your stay, Longnor has a five star fish and chip shop, a Post Office (with excellent coffees and cakes to take away) and a village store and a newly refurbished village pub which has just reopened, together with two friendly pubs a short drive away. With all the delights of Buxton just ten minutes away, not to mention the magnificent Chatsworth House and a host of National Trust properties and gardens and pretty market towns and villages all within easy reach, you will find plenty to enjoy while staying at Jack's Cottage!
Covid Update
Please note: The legal requirement to self isolate following a positive test ended on Thursday 24th February 2022. However, we do ask our guests to follow all recommended Government advice and exercise personal responsibility if displaying symptoms, to minimise risks to themselves and others and help reduce the spread of infection. We therefore strongly advise guests to take out insurance to cover cancellation, including for Covid-19.
For our part, we will continue with all our infection control measures and Covid secure cleaning between guest stays and provide hand sanitiser on the table inside the cottage. However, we do still require your cooperation with a few things and ask you to please strip the bed before leaving. Laundry bags will be provided in the wardrobe for all the bedding and towels and dressing gowns. Also please remove all the bin liners, tie the handles and place in the green bin outside.
We have also removed all non single use items from the cottage including grocery items in the kitchen, and whilst we will provide sachets for that first cup of tea or coffee, please bring your favourite tea and coffee, condiments and cooking oil. Individual single use washing up 'cleaning packs' will be provided, (together with tea towels and all bed linen and towels), and individual bottles of hand, hair and body wash in the shower room too.
We look forward to welcoming you to Jack's Cottage!

Thank you for your super 5* review! As you say, a cosy cottage with everything you need to enjoy a stay in the Peak District - despite the rainy weather!
Good location between Bakewell and Buxton. Good cafe and pub in the village. Arrived in sunshine and sat on the bench at the front enjoying a drink. Small cottage off the main road so quiet but near the shop and cafe. Lovely garden and good quality bed linen. Enjoyed our stay.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay at Jack's Cottage. Recommendation is the best form of advertising - although it was a lovely surprise to be listed in the Sunday Times Travel section in March 2018 as one of the '50 Coolest Cottages in the UK'! We hope to welcome you again sometime and thank you for taking the time to post your lovely review of Jack's Cottage, Longnor. Till next time! Mary
Jack's Cottage was a really lovely place for us to stay on our Peak District holiday. It was even better than in the photos! The bed and the sofa were very comfortable; the appliances were straightforward to use; the garden was a lovely spot for reading; the house had loads of character. Lots of local information was supplied, which we found really helpful. Mary was a great host - she left a very nice welcoming gift, and contacted us to see if everything was ok after we had arrived.

Thank you so much for your 5* review of your stay at Jack's Cottage! We do appreciate your lovely comments and hope to welcome you back sometime in the future. Best wishes, Mary.
Our first visit to the Peak District and we enjoyed every minute! Jack’s cottage was perfect for us and our dog. Lovely garden - we enjoyed breakfast in the sun, good pub, shops and coffee shop. Sadly the Fish& Chip shop wasn’t open - opening mid-May! Great walks, local pubs and good weather made a wonderful visit.
Clean and comfortable in a nice spot.
Very small - not obvious how small from the photos. Impractical kitchen for any serious self catering - especially as local pub looks nice but unfortunately has zero veggie/vegan options.
A larger bed would have been appreciated - however the listing did state double bed.
Jack’s Cottage may well be small but yet it’s perfectly formed which is decorated and finished to a very good standard.
This perfect hide away is nestled in the very pretty village of Longnor where we enjoyed breakfast in Jack’s garden (fresh provisions can be purchased only seconds away at Longnor General Store) cosy evenings curled up on the couch watching TV and we had great fun exploring the surrounding areas with little or difficulty due to its central location.
Having enjoyed a good long walk, or for that matter a good nights sleep what could be better than to treat yourself to invigorating shower...? Jack’s Cottage has it covered.
And If being a god or goddess in the kitchen is not your thing, fear not as there are several rather good eateries within spitting distance of your front door. The fish & chip shop literally at the end of the street is not to be missed, diagonally across the market square you will find Cobbles Cafe for a terrific bacon butty or full English breakfast which will set up up for a days walking, then virtually next door you will find Merchants House for some relaxed daytime or evening dining.
Our only regret is that we didn’t feel that the weather cold enough to light up the fire, but then it’s a reason to return not that we need one.
Until next time...
The cottage is extremely well equipped. The welcome pack and everything about Jack's Cottage was perfect. I had the most restful week staying there and would stay again.
It is a lovely cosy place, just right for visiting the wide range of local attractions.

I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay and found plenty of great places to visit in the local area. Thank you for your super 5* review, together with your lovely comments in our Visitors Book, which I shall add to our website! Mary
My husband and I had a wonderful week at Jack's Cottage. Mary was helpful from booking to departure. It was our second visit to Jack's Cottage, having stayed there about ten years ago. A cosy cottage, tastefully decorated with original features. Mary has thought of everything too. And the location itself is great for walking, with stunning countryside and easy access to visit all parts of the Peak District. Thank you Mary

I'm delighted you enjoyed your return visit to Jack's Cottage! Thank you so much for your super 5 star review! Mary
Jack's Cottage is a cosy and well equipped cottage perfect for a couple. It is in a quiet lane off Longnor's main square so ideally situated for the local shops, pub and fish and chip shop.
You can do fantastic walks straight from the door in this beautiful area of the White Peak so don't need to use your car if you don't want to.
The cottage was just as described and Mary very helpful and efficient in all our communications with her.
Thoroughly recommend.
