Hosted by Karen Spriggs

We are in our fifties and have 2 sons. We live in Parkstone, near Poole, Dorset - a 30 minute drive (using the Swanage ferry) or an hour's cycle.
We bought The Old Bakery in 2009, having spotted it on the Internet and then seeing it on one of our weekend cycles in the Purbecks. Work started in January 2010 and was finished in October the same year. It certainly became a labour of love but we are really pleased with the results. We hope you are too.

Why they chose this property
We love the Purbecks and walk or cycle with family and friends in the area most weekends. For us, we can reach areas of calm and unspoilt beauty quickly and easily, and still be home in time for tea!
We were keen to buy a property in Swanage because, not only are the coast and countryside right on the doorstep, but also Swanage has all the conveniences we require and more. We love to take what is literally a one minute stroll to Love Cake on the High Street for a cappuccino or to walk on to Gee Whites open-air seafood restaurant for prawns and 'fizz'. We have found Swanage to be a really friendly town with loads going on throughout the year. The Folk Festival is really fun, Purbeck Arts Week (PAW) is well worth a visit and New Year's Eve showcases some inspirational fancy dress outfits!

What makes this property unique
The fact that we can spend a great few days at The Old Bakery without ever using the car is a huge advantage and makes for a truly relaxing break. We love walking and love the fact that we can walk directly from the cottage. We often walk to Corfe village/castle and catch the steam train back or vice versa. Alternatively, we like to walk to Durlston Country Park to enjoy the wonderful views and to try to spot orchids and even adders in the summer months. We love to head for the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers for one of their famous pasties, dropping down to Dancing Ledge and Chapman's Pool, time permitting.
