About this property

Million Dollar Mountain and Lake Views

Welcome to your northern Maine lakefront escape, where rustic luxury meets panoramic mountain and water views on the shores of the Pemadumcook Chain of Lakes. Designed for families, friends, and lifelong memories, this spacious cabin offers the perfect balance of comfort, adventure, and the timeless beauty & serenity of Maine’s North Woods.

Wake each morning to sweeping views of Mt. Katahdin reflected across the water, then enjoy coffee from the dock as loons call across the lake and our local family of Bald Eagles share their morning catch. Inside, warm wood finishes, comfortable gathering spaces, and a cozy interior create an inviting atmosphere after a day spent exploring the vast wilderness region.

Adventure begins right outside your door. Cast a line from the private dock for bass, perch, pickerel and other warm-water fish or launch a boat and explore more than ten miles of connected waterways to chase salmon and lake trout in deeper areas throughout the Pemadumcook Chain of Lakes. Numerous rivers and streams throughout the region provide even more fishing opportunities for anglers of every skill level.

For hikers, the cabin serves as an ideal base camp for some of Maine’s most iconic destinations. Explore the trails of Baxter State Park, discover the rugged beauty National Monument, or venture to Gulf Hagas—often called the “Grand Canyon of the North”—where waterfalls, gorges, and dramatic scenery await. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely nature walk or a challenging summit hike, the region offers trails for every experience level.

Adventure seekers will find no shortage of excitement. Experience Class V whitewater rafting on the Penobscot River beneath the shadow of Mt. Katahdin, rent a side-by-side ATV and access hundreds of miles of interconnected trail systems, or arrange a floatplane excursion directly from the cabin’s private dock. Scenic flights can take you above Maine’s endless forests, lakes, and mountains—or even transport you to lunch on Moosehead Lake or other remote destinations accessible only by air.

Nature lovers will appreciate the abundance of wildlife and seasonal treasures. Be sure to bring your camera if you are a nature photography enthusiast! Depending on the time of year, guests can forage for wild blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and a variety of edible mushrooms throughout the surrounding forests. Keep an eye out for moose, bald eagles, and other native wildlife that call this remarkable region home.

As evening arrives, slow the pace and embrace the tranquility of lake life. Explore our quiet cove and nearby islands by canoe or kayak (available onsite), jump in and cool off with a swim, relax in the hammock overlooking the lake, gather around the picnic table for a traditional Maine lobster boil, or enjoy a fire in the pit at waters edge as the sun sets behind the mountains.

When darkness falls, the experience becomes truly unforgettable. Located near Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument—one of the few officially designated International Dark Sky regions in the United States—the area offers exceptional stargazing opportunities. From the dock, fire pit or hammock, enjoy dazzling views of the Milky Way, countless constellations, meteor showers, and, on fortunate nights, the magical display of the Aurora Borealis dancing across the northern sky.

Step back inside and gather with family and friends in the living room. Watch a favorite movie, share stories, or challenge one another to board games beside the warmth of the stone fireplace. For those seeking a quieter end to the day, curl up with a good book in a comfortable chair or retreat to a cozy bedroom, where the peaceful sounds of the lake and surrounding forest provide the perfect backdrop for a restful night’s sleep.

Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure, family connection, world-class stargazing, or simply a peaceful place to unwind on the water, this northern Maine cabin offers an authentic lakeside summer experience you’ll remember long after your stay ends. We look forward to sharing our multigenerational family cabin with you and hearing about memories made!

Quiet get-away on a fantastic lake with spectacular views

We had a wonderful week in Millinocket, and this house is really a home. The hosts were very responsive, accommodating and easygoing. We originally wanted to go hiking, but ended up just relaxing and enjoying the lake all week instead. If you have a boat and enjoy fishing, this is a fantastic spot to explore.

Beautiful View

The camp has a beautiful view of the mountain. The camp itself was spacious and comfortable. The only issue I had with the camp was there are no blinds in the master bedroom which makes it difficult to sleep once the sun comes up (not optimal when on vacation). Otherwise, very nice place to stay.

As an owner, I've loved waking up to the spectacular water and mountain views for 42 years. The shades on the side the sun comes up, were closed when we returned, and they do block the morning sun on the East side. Both sides of the king size bed have night shades to wear for those who need blackness to sleep. However, . I now have curtains on your advice, so that future guests have the option to block out the million dollar view until after their morning adjustment time. We appreciate your comments and Have made the suggestion a reality!

Fantastic location! Beautiful spot with front row view of mt katahdin.

Very special place on twin lakes. Well equipped upscale "camp" with great view of katahdin, kayaks and canoe, authentic rustic decor, pretty much everything you need. Half hour drive to front gate Baxter state park, ten minutes to town. The only negative was that we had to drive to the town dump to get rid of garbage, but this is a camp, after all, and not a deal breaker. We felt more like guests than renters, and had a lovely week. Be sure to check out singing buck over the fireplace 😊.

Dear Kurtz family. You were a joy to have use our summer home! We were delighted to return home to a well cared for property. We do wish to advise the readers that our property keepers did call to ask if they could collect the garbage for you, which they ask for any of our guests. However being the exceptional group that you were, you carried it out yourselves, and we thank you for that and for your kind comments.

Fantastic Lakefront Retreat!

This is a beautiful, secluded vacation home with an expansive view of the lake and Mt. Katahdin. The cabin is immaculate, with all the features you need to make your stay comfortable. Large window along the dining and living rooms downstairs and the master bedroom upstairs allow for a constant open view. There is a long dock only steps from the front door. We spent hours swimming, fishing (with lots of fish to catch) and kayaking/canoeing throughout the small islands around the large lake. At night, we listened to loons as the campfire burned in the lakeside firepit. The kitchen is well-appointed and a quick trip into town allowed us to prepare our own meals throughout our stay. Baxter State Park is only 20 miles away and worth the trip for terrific hiking, walking and nature sightseeing! The owners, Ernie and Kristi, were very helpful and available (although their home was so well kept that we did not need to bother them). This vacation home certainly exceeded our expectation and we plan to return!

I can't tell you how it pleases me that my home was as loved and appreciated by you as it is by us. To come home and find it just as we left it, WITH a thank you card AND a bottle of wine and now your great review, was a treat and relief to us who have never rented before this summer. Having been in the family 85 years, this place is our home. To leave it and rent it was, to say the least, very uncomfortable for us. However, I am thrilled to report our first and only two experiences have been exceptional. Your family was so respectful of the property and I am hoping you can come again soon. Needless to say, my having to leave and find a place to go has been the another benefit for us because it forces us to take a week long vacation to places I would otherwise not go!!! VRBO is GREAT!!

A Truly Special Camp

This was one of my favorite vacations! The location can't be beat. The camp community is very special. We swam, canoed and kayaked most days. Beautiful view of Katahdin from the dock. The house is beautiful, charming and has everything you need. Kristi and her daughter were very welcoming and gave us great recommendations. We went Baxter State Park twice during our week stay. Once hiking to Katahdin and Knife Edge, which was an incredible experience and challenging hike. I highly recommend this camp and hope to be back in the future!

The perfect getaway!

As soon as we walked in the door, we knew it was going to be the relaxing week away we were hoping for. It is a wonderfully inviting home, and it's evident that there have been generations of memories made there. The kitchen was well equipped, including having everything we needed the night we cooked our freshly caught Maine lobsters - which I highly recommend getting your hands on! And, having the grill just steps away was much appreciated as that is my preferred way to cook. Being that it was just the two of us, the only room that we used upstairs was the master bedroom/bathroom. The king sized bed was comfortable, and the bay windows allowed for an amazing view of the lake. I appreciated that there was a laundry room off of the downstairs bathroom, so we were able to do a load of bathing suits and towels at the end of our stay. The couch in the living room was the perfect spot for an unexpected afternoon nap while watching the rain come across the lake. The view is absolutely spectacular, and made it hard to leave on the two days we had plans away from camp. We spent one day whitewater rafting on the Penobscot (fantastic time!), and another at the gorgeous Acadia National Park. As much fun as we had both of those days, we were excited to return home to watch the amazing sunsets over the lake, and be entertained by the two families of ducks who visited daily. Kristi, Ernie & Sharney went above and beyond to make sure that every minute of our trip was perfect, and it truly was. With the stresses and uncertainty happening in our daily lives right now, being at camp provided the mental reset we so desperately needed. I was a bit misty eyed as we were packing up the morning of our departure, but I can say with certainty it was not goodbye, but see you soon - because we hope to have that special place in our lives as long as they'll continue to have us. Much love and many thanks to you and your family Kristi, for opening your doors and sharing with others.

Thanks so much for your review! It was what we had hoped you would feel, as of course, we feel also. The only thing you didn’t mention was the view over the lake of Maine’s highest mountain, Mt. Katahdin! Sometimes it hides in the clouds or fog, but I’m sure it peeked out while you were there and blew you a mountain breeze or two. We can only hope you return next year because Sharney felt a great kinship for you both, and now you are part of our camp family!

Wonderful week by the lake!

We had such a wonderful time at the camp for a week in August! The owner was great to work with and made sure we received all the information needed. The home is lovely and incredibly comfortable. The kids (and us) spent so much time swimming, fishing and kayaking. Easy trip to Baxter State Park for hiking and other recreation in the area. But honestly you could easily spend the week just at camp. The view of Katahdin is majestic. We will be back!

Cozy and comfortable "Camp" in the North Maine Woods.

What a delightful oasis for our week-long trip to Maine! Our two families (incl. 4 teenagers) travel together often and we couldn't have found a more perfect location. Kristi and Ernie go out of their way to make visitors feel at home, with a modern kitchen, essential laundry room, comfortable sleeping quarters and the best view of Twin Lakes imaginable. (It was an absolute treat to hear Ernie's history of his family's property upon arrival). Lots of interior surprises and a unique decor made those inevitable rainy days much more tolerable. There is also plenty to do outdoors and our hosts were gracious enough to provide kayaks and fishing equipment to keep us all busy on the gorgeous lake. We were especially delighted to be visited daily by two sets of mother ducks with numerous ducklings in tow. We were able to use the camp as our base for excursions to Acadia National Park, whitewater rafting on the Penobscot, and the ultimate challenge of climbing to the summit of Mt. Katahdin--which tempts one with its alluring beauty each time you look out the floor-to-ceiling picture windows of the cabin. The small town of Millinocket is a 10-15 minute trip away and we made several excursions for groceries/supplies, dinner and fabulous ice cream. I cannot say enough how relaxed we felt during our stay--our hosts provided every amenity, so we truly felt like the place was ours. Many thanks to Kristi and Ernie and a sincere hope that our paths cross again.

We can only say how greatful we are to have had such respectful and considerate guests, in our personal summer home overlooking our lake and Maine’s highest mountain! We only rent a couple of times a year, so having guests like you make it all worthwhile. We get to travel for a week or two while you enjoy what we’ve had for 42 years! The perfect trade off! We look forward to you coming again anytime!! Thank you for your patronage!

Outstanding! Exceeded our expectations!

The pictures are deceptive - this property is even nicer than what VRBO displays. Our idyllic setting was punctuated by an amazing view of Mt. Katahdin and the beautiful lake. The pier is long and has a great two person wooden chair setup at the end - perfect for watching the sunsets and feeding ducks that seem to come out of nowhere in the evening! The canoe and kayaks are in excellent condition and everything is well appointed and maintained. Preparing our meals in the designer kitchen was a treat as was sitting around the fire in the firepit- steps from the water. On a scale of 1-10, this property is an 11. Kristi and Ernie were available for any questions and provided helpful tips on how to make the most of our stay!

Boy did we ever luck out with your family. You were our first VRBO rental, and with 4 kids, we were biting our lip till we got home. Well honestly, we were completely amazed at how perfect you left it!! And the sincere thank you notes from your sweet girls were precious. I hope you can make this an annual outing, because there is so much to see and do here and Bar Harbor is a day trip not to be missed! Hopefully by next summer we will have a new National Park right here next to our State Park and Mt Katahdin!.

My husband grew up here from birth, the original log cabin built by his family in the 1930's before there was even a road access. We have owned it as a married couple since '76 but have upgraded and tripled it in size since then, when it had no indoor plumbing or running water! Every summer since then has been spent enjoying the vast wonders of nature in the central Highlands of Maine, raising our children on the water and in the woods. Ernie was a pilot in the Air Force, antique car and wooden boat enthusiast .
I have been an Economic Development Director in Maine, and Marketing Director of the New Hampshire State Port Authority and its' Foreign Trade Zones. Currently, we spend winters in Naples, Florida where I am a Real Estate Broker.

What makes this property unique

Unobstructed panoramic views of Mt. Katahdin. Convenient location as a home base for the vast array of activities & adventure the area has to offer yet feels private and secluded.
