About this property
River cottage, 15 miles to Hay on Wye, Views to River,
The Cottage is set in a rural position, in a quiet valley, beside a river and a stream, with the optional extra of the Gardeners Hut for extra campers, or a playroom. Great for the Hay Festival. It was built in the 1880's to provide a home for the railway level crossing keeper. With the closure of the railway in the 1960's it took on a peaceful & quiet existence. It is built of stone with thick walls, possibly by a water-miller given it's tolerance for the river close to which it stands. It is covered in clematis in the spring and roses in the summer. From all the windows are lovely views of the river, the fields, the woods or the garden. It is set in a deep valley through which a river and stream runs. The river runs one side of the house and the stream the other. It is surrounded by meadows and old woodland. Please note that the stairs to the kitchen are considered (by some) to be steep. Guests share one bathroom although there is hand wash basin in each the double and the single rooms

In 1912 our great-grandfather, who'd grown up in the local village, and been a corn merchant in the nearby town, bought a few fields in the little valley by the river. And with it came our tranquil, beautiful cottage. We hope you enjoy our quiet place to stay.
