About this property

Well Equipped, Comfortable, Modern Semi Detached Cottage With Countryside Views

Comfortable well equipped cottage, located at the end of the Manifold Valley, mid way between the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek. The cottage is situated in a quiet cul de sac on the edge of the village and benefits from an enclosed rear garden with patio furniture and a private drive providing off road parking for two vehicles. It is heated by oil fired central heating. Heating, electricity, bedding and towels are included in the price, as is Wifi. Owner contact number 01780 470593.
The cottage is located in a superb walking and cycling area and is an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions in the area. The Manifold Trail which is a surfaced track suitable for both walking and cycling runs for 8.5 miles between Waterhouses and Hulme End. Other cycle and walking trails within the area include the Tissington, High Peak and Monsal Trails. Lovely walks are available along the many miles of footpaths and lanes within the surrounding area and the network of surfaced trails and lanes within the area make the cottage an ideal base for walking all year round. Dovedale, Thorpe Cloud and the pretty village of Ilam are less than a 15 minute drive away.
Historic houses and gardens within the area include Chatsworth House with its farmyard, adventure playground and the many events held there throughout the year; Haddon Hall, Tissington Hall (restricted opening) and various National Trust properties including Sudbury Hall with its museum of childhood, Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall and Biddulph Grange Gardens.
Carsington Water which is within easy travelling distance of the cottage offers water sports, sailing, cycle hire, fishing, a children's play area and a bird watching centre with several hides, or you can just walk around the reservoir (a full circuit is around 8.5 miles). Two miles north of Leek is Rudyard Lake with it's miniature railway and activities on offer include walking, fishing and boating. Tittesworth reservoir, also near Leek, offers walks and water sports. For the more adventurous, visit Wild Park Derbyshire, between Ashbourne and Derby for paint balling, laser tag, quad biking and archery.
The pretty market towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Leek & Buxton (renowned for its spa water and Opera House) are all well worth a visit and easily accessible from the cottage.
Other attractions within the area include Gulliver’s Kingdom & the Heights of Abraham at Matlock; Poole’s country park, caverns and Go Ape at Buxton; Alton Towers and Splash Landings indoor pool (10 minute drive), The Peak Wildlife Park (10 minute drive); Waterworld at Stoke; Crich tramway museum and the Churnet Valley Railway. The National Memorial Arboretum, Tamworth Snow dome and Drayton Manor Theme Park are all within travelling distance of the cottage.
All this and more is close to the cottage to keep you busy for the whole period of your holiday, or you can just relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful part of England.
There is a separate garage for the storage of bikes and this also contains a selection of bikes which are available for guests to use. There is also a cycle hire centre in the village, a village shop, pub and café. Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement but we politely ask that they are kept downstairs, off the furniture and not left unattended in the cottage.
Check in is currently contactless due to Covid. We are also carrying out extra deep cleaning and disinfection of high risk areas as the safety of our guests is extremely important to us.

Absolutely fantastic

The house was stunning. Spotlessly clean and very well stocked with everything we might have needed. Very quiet location but still close to Alton Towers - which was the purpose of our visit. Inez was friendly and helpful. Could not have been better and we would all be very happy to visit again.

Staying in Summer

Beautiful cottage and very peaceful. My only downfall was it became very hot and there was no fans or air conditioning. The TV was not smart and my son couldn’t connect his X-Box to watch movies or play games in the evening, Overall I would recommend this cottage and the host were very communicative.

Great property

Great location, clean and very well presented. Great to have a good mattress on the beds and 3 toilets is great. Excellent that little bits and bobs were provided, like a welcome basket, tea, coffee, condiments and soaps etc. Overalll a fantastic location and would definitely recommend for Alton Towers as only 7 miles away and a great base for exploring the peak district. Would have to say its one of the cleanest properties we have stayed in.

A lovely stay and ideally located

Immaculately clean, cosy and comfortable, we had a lovely May half term holiday in this lovely house. Easy to reach, communication was excellent, and everything was provided for. It is ideally situated, close to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and close to stunning views. the Country Garden cafe down the road was very good and sold excellent sauces! We visited Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth, Alton Towers, our girls fed the meerkats at Peak Wildlife Park which was their holiday highlight, Treak Cliff Cavern, Gladstone Pottery Museum where Pottery Throw Down is filmed and a decorating workshop at the Emma Bridgewater Factory. Thank you Inez!

Lovely stay here at this lovely cottage. Has everything you would need plus more. Board games were played. Kitchen was so well stocked, if you needed it, it was there. Lovely welcome items too and all info provided ahead of time and clear and precise instructions. En suite is a lovely bonus. Everything was very clean and in great condition. We stayed for an Alton towers trip - 15 mins away and only there in the evening, but you can tell in the summer months with some lovely weather the outdoor space would be very nice. I have nothing negative to say, great place to stay, thanks very much :)

Lovely stay in Peak District

Sweet little home, unbelievably well appointed with anything we might need including instruction manuals for the cooking appliances. We ventured out to Dovedale, Ilam, and Heights of Abraham but also enjoyed exploring the village of Waterhouses: Riverside Cafe, Red Lion Inn, the general store. Amazing binder of info from owner and even a welcome basket of goodies. I was really touched by the detailed thoughtfulness of this space.
