About this property
Charming, Detached Farmhouse With Private Swimming Pool.
Set in its own spacious garden and surrounded by quiet countryside, this charming, detached, former farmhouse is an ideal place to get away from it all. The private swimming pool and large garden provide an ideal family holiday location. The interior of the property, with its exposed beams, stonework and wooden floors, is typical of the region and has been comfortably furnished in traditional French country style. Peuliard, a hamlet of Lizant, is located near to the pretty town of Civray in the south of Vienne. Nestling on the banks of the picturesque Charente river, Civray is dominated by an impressive Romanesque church which can be seen in all its splendour from the main square of the town. Pavement cafes and a twice weekly market add to the atmosphere of this pretty town. Fishing, canoeing and riverside beaches are also a feature on this stretch of the Charente river. Good area for cycling and walking. Shop 10km, café/bar 2km Please note that along with the tranquility comes a challenge with providing broadband connection. WiFi is not provided, although there is usually 4G signal available on your own devices.

We had a great time, with our family of 5 (3 kids) in Peuliard. Beautiful, well equipped house, nice big garden for the kids. They loved the pool and the swing. Enough fun activities to do in the area, but also a great place to relax and enjoy the peace and quietness of the French countryside.

Enjoyed our stay could be much better
Apart from the bed collapsing on quite a few occasions, some of the parts of the house been mended by bodgit and scarper and the pool having seen better days. I quite enjoyed our holiday.
It’s a lovely peaceful setting in which to enjoy the surrounding area. You just get the feeling that the house could be spectacular but they’ve gone for the cheaper option in order to maximise profits.
The property manager and owner were always available and willing to help out whenever they could.
The place needs a bit of money spending on it. With a few upgrades, the cooker being one, it would be a great place.
I would book again if improvements were made. 👍

Thank you for the feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the holiday and we are sorry about the issues with one of the single beds. Thanks for bringing this to our attention - they have both now been replaced.
The cooker is a simple model, but in good working order. Nevertheless, we value your feedback on this, and will consider our options for upgrading it.
It is very helpful to receive comments from our guests, which we take very seriously. We invest a considerable amount of time and money into the property every year to maintain and upgrade it. We enjoy using the property ourselves, and take pride in the house and in the positive feedback we receive from the overwhelming majority of guests. It has never been an endeavour to make profits, so your speculation on this point is incorrect.
Thanks again for taking the time to provide feedback.
This is the second time we have stayed here and it was just as lovely as the first time! A stunning location, beautiful house and meadow. The pool was super! Our sons love it here. Fabulous holiday once again! Thankyou!
We loved the house, the garden and the swimming pool. The facilities were great including the library of books, games etc. We had everything we needed apart from quality WiFi. My husband needs to keep in touch with work when we're away so to be sure that he could cope, and so that our young adult son had internet access, we did take our own device to create a WiFi hotspot. We were unfortunate with the weather, a lot of rain, so although we enjoyed the pool we didn't get as much use as we would have liked. I was quite happy with the books though! The welcome pack and the swimming towels were much appreciated. I think with the garden, pool, toys, games etc. it would be a wonderful place to take children

Hi Terri. Thanks for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday. I'm afraid the WiFi is not great, as you say. Unfortunately in this rural location our options are very limited and a 3G (sometimes 4G) connection is the best we can provide. It's ok for basic internet connection but not much use for watching TV or for anyone that needs high-speed internet access for work. We do try to make this clear in the house information, but hopefully this review will help other guests.
Thanks again.

Pretty house
We did have a lovely stay but there were a few issues. The house is old so we know how difficult they are to keep clean but the house does need a good deep clean. We all found the beds too hard and if you do not like wildlife this is not the place to be. There is a shrew family living in the house, we had bats in the bedroom and there are larger creatures that can be heard in the walls/ceilings at night. The close proximity of the fruit trees to the pool does mean you will need to spend some time each day collecting fallen fruit to reduce the number of wasps in the pool area. A big storm also meant we had to spend a fair amount of time cleaning the pool to remove the leaves. We had visits from the neighbours dogs and cats
The area is very rural and very pretty. We had some lovely meals st the Hotel du Comnerce in Civray, really enjoyed the canoeing at Taize-Aizie, and wandering around Nanteuil-en-Vallee

The perfect house for a family getaway.
I booked this house for a family holiday holiday to celebrate my Mothers 60th birthday. There were 5 adults, and 2 children. It really was just perfect.
The owners have obviously put a huge amount of effort and time into renovating the property. It has such a homely feel and we all said how easy it was to relax. The rooms are spacious and we had everything we needed from kitchen utensils to fun garden games. The little touches like children's toys and DVDs to suit all the family were just brilliant. The pool and massive garden were a bonus! We enjoyed lots of time playing games outside and even a BBQ one evening.
The location is idyllic and quiet and the region is just beautiful. We found some great walks to go on from the house.
We enjoyed visiting the markets in Civray and Ruffec and consumed far too much cheese and wine during our stay!
Ben, the owner was quick to answer any questions leading up to the holiday and was easily contactable.
We wouldn't hesitate to return again and would highly recommend.
An absolutely wonderful holiday with lots of laughs and great memories.
Thank you

About the host
Hosted by Ben Moss
We are three generations of a family, originally from Suffolk. Grandma and Grandpa bought the house in 1991 when they retired from teaching and we have all been enjoying it (and renovating it in the early years) ever since.
Why they chose this property
Why this location? We already knew the area and found the countryside charming and peaceful. Yet the house is not isolated: it is in a hamlet of three houses and most of the shops and services you might need are to be found in the nearby village or the small towns of Civray and Ruffec, just ten minutes drive away. It is close to main road, rail and air links and a comfortable day’s drive from the Channel ports.
The area offers all kinds of activities and entertainments, everything from a picnic and swimming in a local Plan d’eau (water park) to a day out at Futuroscope. It is especially good and safe for walking and cycling.
What makes this property unique
No 2 Peuliard was bought twenty-six years ago as “a project”. A realistic forecast, as this old fermette, though mostly sound, was very primitive and seemed to be slumbering quietly, enclosed in its acre of neglected garden and meadow. Alongside it was an attractive valley and all around was farmland and woodland. Over the years we have restored it into a very comfortable family holiday home, carefully keeping original features like the stone-flagged kitchen floor. At the same time we have made many friends and enjoyed joining in local village life. We have had a lot of fun and a lot of help from our grown-up children who now bring their children to enjoy the simple pleasures of French country life.
