My Husband and I had a wonderful stay at this cottage. We had a lovely warm welcome to the cottage as the lamps were lit, the cottage was warm and cosy with a lovely hamper of goodies ready as we arrived after a very long journey. Just what we needed. The cottage is beautifully decorated, has everything you need. A great base to explore the beautiful island of Skye. With lovely views over Loch Vatten. We saw deer and owls from the garden. The cottage is quite central on the island so we were able to explore the whole island during our visit, north and south. We loved it and will definitely be back.
This cottage offers a real retreat from city life. With a view over the water and cliffs you can relax and soak up the landscape. It’s well equipped and easy to be there. We were there in winter and had to work to get it cozy and warm. The heater and fireplace struggle to keep up with wind and rain. Still we enjoyed our time there.
After a little trouble finding the cottage, our sat nav took the second turning off the A683 not the first, we loved the quaint and traditional cottage. It contained everything we needed and the hamper that was left was great. The online listing gives the impression that the sandy beach is "just a short walk away" but we found it quite far and drove some of it. Other than that we found everything as described. We had a nightly visit from an owl and deer, at low tide seals were plentyful. We also saw a cuckoo for the first time. As for the location it is great for getting to the north of Skye, in fact couldnt have been better. If we are ever in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to stop here.
What a wonderful Stay on Skye. You come as Stranger and go as a Friend. We really enjoy our Stay on Skye and in this lovely little Cottage. The Cottage has all you need to enjoy a stay on Skye. Nice Spot to Start a Tour in the Northern Part of Skye. Lovely enterior makes you feel like you're at home. Cosy Fireplace, Heartwarming and relaxing. You find also everything you need for a nice Meal to cook. The Housekeeping prepares some Fruits, Bread and Marmelade for us. Isn't this Kind? One More Toast to Frank the owner who gives you a helping hand when needed. He's incredible! thank you so much for making our stay as beauty full it could be. Thanks a lot for all, Kind regards Nicole & Michael
We spent a really nice week in Vatten this May. It was an ideal spot to explore North Skye and close to Dunvegan, where there was a fast, reliable EV charger. The weather was pretty cool for May, but the storage heating coped OK. All the facilities you would expect were there. The kitchen was a bit dated, if that’s a problem for you, but we found everything we needed. There are good facilities for clothes washing. Would recommend.
The cottage is located in a nice peaceful area of Skye with good views of the Loch from the kitchen and garden. The cottage was nice and warm and is in a good location for visiting many of the sites of Skye.

Not all as on the pictures
We were very disappointed on the first day of stay. The cottage wasn't clean. There were layers of dust everywhere. Bathroom was also needed a good wipe. The cutlery and crockery also didn't look very clean. The furnitures were worn out. The whole thing didn't look as good as on pictures. We looked again at them to checked how we could miss all the signs. Then we noticed that there were not a lot of pictures from the inside... The last but not the least, in the house the very strong smell of an old house. Clearly it hadn't had a good clean-up for a while.
But it was not all bad. The house is in a beautiful and extremely peaceful place. It is convenient located to visit Skye's attraction, and there are plenty of them. The cottage is quite large and warm. Linens and towels were clean. The welcome pack was nice, especially local jam.
Lovely quaint traditional cottage in a stunning location. Very well equipped kitchen and lots of books and games available. I would not hesitate to return. Also my daughter accidentally left some items behind and these were returned to us by post immediately. Great host and great property
The weather was superb for the whole week combined with setting and views from the cottage this was a fab week away. The cottage was charming and had everything you could need. Many thanks we will be back.
A wonderful cottage in a magnificent setting. Frank was so helpful and Angela made sure we were ok through the stay.
I would highly recommend this cottage.
If you are looking for a peaceful, quite hideaway in a very scenic location, this is the place for you. The pictures of the cottage are an accurate representation and it is ideal for 2 adults in the main bedroom and 2 children in the bunk room. The booking and entry process went very smoothly.. Skye has spectacular scenery and the cottage is a good base for exploring the island. There are also a number of top class restaurants within easy driving distance from the cottage. We very much enjoyed our time in Skye though, as you would expect, you need to be prepared for all types of weather!
Just enjoyed a lovely weeks holiday at Loch Vatten Cottage. Owner Frank and cleaner Angela on hand to ensure all went well. Very comfortable cottage with all the ameneties that you could need. Weather very mixed with some cold windy days which made the open fire a real bonus to come home to. Thank you.

Cosy and secluded little cottage by the sea
The check-in process was smooth, the house owner and the cleaning lady were both very proactive in providing us with instructions and making sure our stay would be comfortable. The location is hard to fault too. Shame that all the windows, exception made for a small one in the kitchen are looking away from the sea view...
Cottage was as advertised and true to the photos. A lovely, quiet spot and a good location from which to explore Skye. We saw otters in the little bay and had several beautiful sunsets. Glad we booked early as Skye was very, very busy even in the 3rd week of September. The cottage was a welcome refuge after the crowds at every scenic spot on the island. Communication with owner and housekeeper was excellent and prompt. We enjoyed our stay.
We spend a wonderful week at Loch Vatten.
We enjoyed the quiet evenings at the fireplace and the great view on the sea.
Frank was kind and answering fast, so we can definitely recommend this place.
This little cottage had everything we needed for a week on Skye. It was perfectly located for the hikes we wanted to do and we were glad to be away from the crowds and bustle. There is a wonderful little walk at the end of the road that features a sea cave and stack that we could take after dinner. Don’t miss the Bog Myrtle Cafe and Bookstore for breakfast!
This was the 2nd week of our great holiday in Scotland. Travel and accomodation arrangements from our side were done at the last moment and we were fortunate to come across this little treasure. We have nothing but praise for both Homeaway and the proprietors who made the booking of the accommodation ever so easy. Constant communication was available which gave us a lot of reassurance, especially as travelling from abroad.
We currently live in a block of flats on a very busy road and we were looking for total tranquility. I do not think you can go anywhere more relaxing and peaceful. Initial shock to the system of course, especially due to the ruralness of the area and cottage itself. Soon we got used to it and found it very hard to leave. Dunvegan in the Isle of Skye has a lot to offer when it comes to tranquility, outdoor activities and seal spotting haha!
The local and nearby restaurants/cafes although not many, offer a lovely cosy, friendly atmosphere and excellent food. Also, relatively close to Portree, which was excellent too.
We thoroughly explored the area, the hiking opportunities were endless and even more wonderful was returning to the comfort and warmth of the cottage. A total delight. Thank you all once again xx
Wonderfully located on the west coast which I personally believe is the most attractive side of Skye. The views from the cottage across the loch and the seals basking a the rocks at low tide just made it for us.
