The many gardens on the property were exquisitely cared for and so beautiful. The home owners were kind and friendly without being intrusive. The cottage was a delight to stay in and the cupcakes were also a delight to the eyes! I highly recommend this lovely place!!
We spent one week in this beautiful cottage and couldn't have wished for a better accommodation for our vacation! The cottage is wonderfully located in the heart of Windermere, making it an ideal starting point for day trips! The cottage is lovingly furnished and up to date! We are very grateful for the great time we were able to spend in Windermere and would book the accommodation again at any time! Many thanks also to our hosts for the warm welcome and hospitality!

This is a beautiful property with fantastic hosts - could not have asked for a better place to stay for our weekend and the garden is amazing. We had a superb weekend and will definitely be back
The Floss is the perfect base for a week in Windermere. Ron and Val are wonderful hosts and have provided everything you could possibly need. Terrific location, spotless, all the amenities!
My husband and I had the most amazing break at this beautiful cottage. It is small, but perfect for two, and set in Ron and Val's gorgeous garden. We really couldn't have asked for more, the cottage was clean and very well equipped, the bed was comfortable and Ron and Val are very welcoming. It is positioned perfectly for exploring the whole of the Lake District - we were lucky to have sunshine throughout our stay and loved every moment. Thank you Val, Ron and Michael for your hospitality!
Fantastic location. Stunning garden. Very comfortable cottage. Clean. Ron gave excellent walking directions from the train station. The cupcakes were delicious.
We had a fantastic stay.
The cottage was ideal.
Great welcome from the hosts.
Very central for touring the lake district.
The cottsge is situated in a sublime garden.
A peaceful retreat from the busy world yet so centsl
Our second stay and it was as great as the first time. This time we did not take the car. Clean and efficient taxis from and to the railway station special thanks to Lakeside taxis. We used the buses a lot - what great drivers dealing with narrow roads, animals etc. we climbed Helvellyn which was my husband’s challenge. We would recommend Rydal cave from toddlers onwards we had a great stay. Thanks to our golden hosts and Vrbo.
We both enjoyed our time at Floss Cottage which was comfortable, spotless and well appointed. We loved the cup cakes Valerie baked for us and both her and husband Ron were very friendly and lovely to talk to. We highly recommend Floss Cottage as a place to stay.
The property was beautiful and perfect for a couple. Easy walk to everything. But the very best part of our stay was time we were able to spend chatting with our hosts, Val and Ron. Just delightful!!!
An immaculate cottage with a cozy feel. Good location near all the amenities but still felt quiet and rural. Would recommend it to friends and family. Will definitely be back.
The house is gorgeous and the garden is absolutely stunning! We mostly do day hikes, and it’s just the perfect spot for it. The cottage has three levels. You enter from the beautiful garden into the living room. From there, you can go down four stairs to the kitchen and bathroom, or up eight stairs to the bedroom. It’s beautifully decorated and has everything you need for your stay. Three groceries are within a five-to-ten-minute walk. The owners are super friendly and will answer any questions you might have.
Adorable little cottage with lovely hosts. The cottage was very well-equipped, and comfortable, though quite small. It is in a gorgeous garden right near the center of Windermere.
Thank you!
A very beautiful cottage, in a lush garden and with all sorts of modern appliances - quiet yet all Lake destinations within easy reach with bus stops on the corner.
.Fantastic,. very clean, everything provided, interior very good. Outside lovely looking cottage, gardens fantastic. Ron & Val lovely hosts. Cannot wait to come back.
Small but perfectly formed cottage with everything you need. Immaculately clean. Wonderful hosts. All set in a beautiful, peaceful garden .Thank you , Michael,Val and Ron
The Floss really is a perfect little getaway. Beautifully clean, very comfortable with the added bonus of a stunning garden to sit and enjoy after a long days walking.
The welcome cakes were an unexpected treat and absolutely scrummy.
Perfectly located so that you can explore both Bowness and Windermere, along with some very nice restaurants, and also great links to public transport if required.
And of course plenty of great walks on the doorstep to keep you busy.
Astounding details in this freestanding cottage behind the main house. Lots of clever touches. Full kitchen with all appliances, excellent shower/bath. Proprietors are next door and couldn't be nicer. Great location only a 5-min walk to town. Parking available out front. Very highly recommended!
An amazing find, a beautiful little cottage in spectacular garden of a beautiful house. With Ron and Val being gracious hosts we loved our stay here.
The place was cozy, well thought out and immaculate in its decorative styling and features. We loved it here and is a great find if you need access to the lakes. We are paddle boarders and as a base it was perfect, also a few minutes walk into the centre of Windermere was ideal.
We will definitely be back and already recommended it to loads of people wanting a place to stay in the lakes.

Dear Susan
Many thanks for your lovely review. We're really glad you enjoyed The Floss.
Kind regards
Ron and Val
We had a lovely welcome, from our golden hosts, Ron and Val in a quiet and delightful garden. What a fantastic location to visit the Lake District. We did not have to drive as we had the buses up at the railway station to take us everywhere we wanted to go. Yummy cakes on arrival at The Floss and milk in the fridge for a drink and rest before unpacking. Truly a home from home! THANK YOU SO MUCH, Vrbo, Michael, Val and Ron.

About the host
Hosted by Michael Ellis
We are Ron and Val I have lived in Windermere all my life and Val, my wife is just about local, moving here when she was a teenager! We ran a local florist business in the village for about 30 years and now I spend most of my time, either in the garden or fulfilling my role as of Chairman for the Heathwaite Junior Football Club and member of the Taverners Cricket Club. Val is very happy to be retired!
Why they chose this property
We bought the house in 1981 as both Val and me fell in love with it. The house is beautiful Lakeland slate with a large bay window letting in loads of light to the front room. The garden was huge and covered in a mass of rhododendron buses, flower beds and trees. In the grounds was an out building, again in Lakeland stone and a large bay window, which much later became The Floss. The house is so quiet and private even though being right in the heart of Windermere with easy access to the village or a short walk to the Lake. The house was a great place to bring up our children, is enjoyed by the grandchildren and Flossy the family dog loved playing out in the garden all her life. Our daughters dog Scarlett spends plenty of time in it too chasing her much loved ball!
What makes this property unique
The benefits of staying here are vast. The gardens have become even more spectacular over the last few years, ever since retiring I enjoy many an hour digging, weeding and planting in all weathers! The amount of land surrounding the house and cottage is fantastic. There are very few houses like ours in the village which have the benefit of being so central and having the space and peace away from it all. The slate seating area adjacent to the cottage is a great vantage point for enjoying the garden, reading a good book or chatting with friends and family. It is also the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or a Pims in the summer sun (weather permitting, it is the Lake District!)
