We we at the end of Skye and lived it!

A great place to getaway and just enjoy the solitude. We had a cozy fire in the comfort of this beautiful Croft house. Beds were comfy and kitchen was well equipped. It does not disappoint!

Very cool place

At the far end of the world is where you will find this gem of a stay. Loved the location and the house which came as advertised. Being that it is so far away, it could use a few more day to day items in the kitchen as it is a long way back into town.

Lovely stay

The home is in a beautiful area of the Scottish Highlands. I felt we got to experience a small piece of what it would be like to live in such a beautiful area. So many beautiful areas to walk nearby. The place itself was perfect, cozy and had everything we needed. And the owner is very nice and communicative.

After following Lorraine’s wonderful directions we made our way to Willie McLeod’s Croft. Everything anyone could need has been thought of. We stopped at the coop on our way so we were able to make meals after exploring Skye. We met Alan who graciously told us about his dogs and sheep :-). We needed some time away from noise and found it. Lorraine and family have done fabulous and loving work to keep the feel of the Croft while renovating it. We had a great getaway.

Wonderful place to enjoy your holiday

This was our first time in Scotland and we learned really quick how different the roads are. Thanks to being able to stay in this location we were able to do so all the hikes we planned to do.The house is super spacious, a rarely in the UK. The surroundings are so peaceful and the view is magnificent. If you are a lover of nature, you will not be disappointed.

Quaint

The house is very quaint. You are surrounded by sheep, rabbits and sweeping views. Though the house looks old it is up to date inside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would come back to enjoy the peace. If you’re lucky, Alan the crofter will come by and talk with you about his life farming sheep and raising Birder Collies.

A peaceful stay in Skye

We very much enjoyed staying at Lorraine's place. The cottage is well maintained. There was even a hand written note when we arrived. We didn't get his name, but a nice shepherd minds his sheeps in the area, with whom whe learned about farming and croft life. name name but was very lovely.

Comfortable home in stunning, remote location

So serene, beautiful views, cosy home. It is a trek to get to this property for which you will be heartily rewarded but important for guests to be aware of. Lorraine provided great instructions and we found the property easily. Roads on Skye, including up the top end where the home is located have challenges - narrow one lane, many deep potholes etc. The home was well equipped, cosy, warm and comfortable. You would be advised to bring food supplies to enjoy eating at home and enjoying the absolute serenity. We had gorgeous lambs and sheep for company Communication with Lorraine was easy and excellent. We loved our stay here.

Amazing location

Lovely house to stay in with friends. Really enjoyed sitting in front of the fire in the evening. Host was very accommodating when we needed supplies. Our friends commented on the noise from the water heater in their bedroom and the water flow in the shower is quite weak. Apart from that, all good.

Welcoming and part of the real Isle of Skye

the accommodation is spacious and perfect for home cooked foods if you want to dine at home after a long day exploring the Isles. a walk early morning to the Look out Bothy to see the sun rise with my dog is one of our favourite things. a short drive takes you to the Quiraing hills.perfect sunsets & if you lucky the northern lights at Duntulm which is walking distance or a very short drive are amongst the best places to see these from. and the local farmer Alan. well Alan, is a great friend to acquaint, always cheerful as are his amazing working Collie sheep dogs. thank you Lorraine a great host to a wonderful part of Skye. we will return to this happy place :)

Hogmanay at the Top of Skye

My family of four (young adult children) thoroughly enjoyed spending our New Year in Willie McLeod’s cottage. It is a charming and warm home from which to venture out on Skye. The cottage is well equipped and the kitchen ready for basic cooking. We loved it and would come back in anytime!

A beautiful croft house, in a spectacular location.

The croft house was idyllic, beautifully renovated and decorated with all amenities one could want. It makes a perfect home from home and base for exploring the north of the island. The host obviously cares very much about her guests and this is reflected in the house itself.

A cozy and beautiful cottage, the host is very kind and the place around stunning. The neighbours are rabbits and sheeps, so this is a very quiet place, but you can go everywhere on the island so this is a perfect spot to stay.

We made a very last minute booking and this was one of the only properties still available, it’s a little remote, but it was a lovely retreat at the end of the day. Very quiet and cozy and the views are incredible. I would definitely stay here again.

About the host

Hosted by Lorraine Harlow

Host profile image
I have lived permanently on the Isle of Skye for 8 years after retiring early from being a Forest School leader and working with children with special needs.
I first visited Skye 25 years ago and lost my heart to this stunning island. My passion is being out in the landscape but in particular walking in the mountains on Skye and all over Scotland and the islands, travelling around in “Vanessa” my Campervan.

Why they chose this property

Willie McLeods House is located in a very quite, open, rural position with uninterrupted views to the Quiraing on the Trottenish Ridge and the towering mountains along the West Coast of mainland Scotland.
The property has recently undergone a complete upgrade, inside and out and caters for your every need after a day out walking or sightseeing.

What makes this property unique

Very quite location, walks from the front door, uninterrupted views, in full view of the most amazing Hebredian sunrises.
