Housekeepers, sleeps 4/5, characterful, beamed property near the Quantock Hills.
Housekeepers Quarters is a beautiful property situated on the top floor of The Old House. It has its own entrance from The Old House leading to a delightful large well defined accommodation. It has two very large bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds ( but can be made into a large double). The twin room is large enough to add an occasional bed to make it comfortable for a family of 5. There is a fully equipped large kitchen and a barrel shaped sitting room with two settees and a a TV. This is a very large accommodation that allows a lot of space and privacy for those who seek it. Outside there is an acre ( 2.5 ares) of beautiful walled gardens which is safe for children and there are loungers for the adults to relax and enjoy. Housekeepers sits in the middle of the old village of Nether Stowey just on the foothills of the Quantock Hills where you will find wonderful views across the Severn estuary across to wales, to Exmoor national Park, the Mendip Hills and the Blackdown Hills. Not many venues can offer so much. We are central to many attractions and within easy access to popular places to visit. The ancient city of Wells with its famous and wonderful Cathedral and Bishops Palace, Glasonbury Torr, the caves of Wookey Hole and Cheddar, an its stunning gorge are all within commutable distance. If its retail therapy that's needed then there's Clarks Village. National Trust and Heritage sites are more than abundant with several nearby. Dunster village with its incredible castle is some 25 mins away and the village well worthy of a visit. Kilve beach , a must place to visit or walk about is part of the North Somerset Jurassic coastline with its dramatic sight of quirky strata creating dynamic designs when the tide is out and looking the other direction towards the background of the Quantocks. But for walkers this is a golden area with so many walks for all abilities with the views to die for. Watchet, an old port with two harbours is a lovely place to walk about especially in the evenings where you can enjoy fish and chips overlooking the marina. The South West Coastal Pathis only a few miles away, recently opend and passing through the newly created Steart Marshes where you can view both freshwater and saltwater birds. It also has easy paths to walk and enjoy. There is so much to do and see a week will not be enough !

The apartment was everything we imagined from the listing. The rooms were large and airy. Despite the hot weather, there were enough windows to keep a gentle breeze flowing. All the equipment we needed was available. The garden is so beautiful and we were really grateful that we could host family there for an evening meal. Manor and Ann were perfect hosts.
The apartment is ideally located for trips out to a number of beaches and other attractions. We would highly recommended it and hope to be back some day.

A warm welcome to a delightful apartment
Housekeeper's Quarters provided us with just what we needed when meeting up with old friends. It is spacious and gave us plenty of room to sit, chat and catch up. It is well equipped, extremely comfortable and warm. We felt at home immediately. Ann's cherry cake was waiting for us in the kitchen along with good bread, butter, milk and tea.
The house has a beautiful garden which we roamed around. Must be great in the summer.
Nether Stowey has several pubs - one which serves food. We ate there and at others in nearby villages. There are plenty of recommendations in the folder in the sitting room.
Thank you Ann for looking after us so well!

fantastic
We had a fantastic stay at the Old House. The cottage was cosy, clean, spacious and as described on the photos. We could feel at home. We were a family with 2 teenagers.
There was also a big garden full of beautiful flowers. The children even played badminton. We didn't use the barbecue despite great weather because we were too exhausted after busy visiting days !
The owners were very helpful : first they waited for us until 11.30 pm ( plane delayed...)
and then on the next day Manor gave us a map and instructions about what to visit and see. Thank you so much !
Nether Stowey is a nice small village ( with very convenient shops and pubs ) and a good location to discover North and West Somerset. ( Exmoor, Dunster, the north coast ,steam train, Taunton , Minehead, Wells, Cheddar... even Bath)
I definitely recommend the Old House if you want to spend relaxing holidays in a beautiful cottage.

Nette FeWo mit britischem Charme.Ruhig gelegen.Die Vermieter sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.Kurze Wege zur Küste des Bristol Channel,Ausflüge ins Exmoor,Dunster Castle, Cheddar Caves and Gorge.
Lovely warm welcome from Manor on our arrival, with a very kind introduction and a walk through of our accommodation. The flat in the large attic space was lovely and in the heart of the very quaint village. Light and cozy at the same time and had everything we needed for our short but enjoyable break
Very friendly welcome in a beautiful cottage with lots of history and character. Village location great, local shops and good pubs nearby. Manor and Ann made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.
The Housekeepers Flat was so comfortable and well equipped, it was home from home. Stairs a little challenging for the knees when carrying the luggage up, but no problem the rest of the time. The flat is very quaint with little nooks and crannies.
The garden was a real haven of beauty and tranquility.
Thanks to Manor and Ann for making our stay such a lovely break after being locked down at home..
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home. Manor showed us around the property and was very welcoming, thank you for the biscuits, they were lovely. He gave us lots of information about where to go to eat, to walks and visit. The accommodation was amazing, very quirky, homely and very big. It was set in beautiful grounds. We had the most amazing time and would love to visit again, for longer next time. Thank you so much. Sam, Dan and Alex

Spacious and interesting accommodation in a lovely village.
We stayed in the house keepers quarters for three nights. Everything we needed for our stay was provided, by the helpful hosts including reccomendations for eateries and walks. There was a very comfortable bed and excellent cooking facilities. The rooms are all large, light and airy, but were plenty warm enough without using the supplementary heating provided. Lots of stairs to get to the accommodation and steps within the property, make it unsuitable for people who are less agile. The location is excellent with Quantock walks close by and many places of interest within a short drive.
Large apartment so plenty of space for just the two of us! Well equipped, nice modern kitchen and use of the large and very beautiful garden. Ideally located for both the north coast (Severn Estuary) and the south coast just 30 miles to Seaton. Moran and Ann are wonderful hosts.
A perfect stay from start to finish. We are were a party of two adults and two children (13 and 10). We were going to arrive later than planned originally, we informed Manor and Ann who said no problem and accommodated us with no issues at all. Communication throughout was exceptional. The property itself is large, with everything you would need inside it. The living room is lovely, warm and cosy, perfect for an evening in. The kitchen had everything we needed, with a lovely dining set for family meals. The garden is lovely, really beautiful and well maintained. We had a great time exploring and looking for wildlife in the local area. Nether Stowey is a charming village close to local amenities and attractions, I would recommend a car to get around though. Thank you both again for a lovely stay. Lauren, Julie, Cyrus and Serryn :)

Booked fairly late on as base to visit parents , do some college research and have a few days holiday . Looked good on line and was not a disappointment. Lovely setting , great village with all necessary amenities including brilliantly stocked shop. The accommodation was clean and well equipped and had a very relaxing atmosphere. The owners Manor and Anne , were very welcoming and helpful during our stay . Cooking facilities were more than adequate and we ate in most nights. Location was very good with visits to Devon and Dorset just as accessible as Somerset. All in all it was a very good choice and we had a great time.
Fantastic find! Lovely surroundings, smartly furnished, well-equipped kitchen, board games for the children in case it rained and a badminton set in the garden. Large garden with space for the children to run around but also space to relax and unwind and even do a barbecue. Easy access to lots of walks up onto the Quantocks from the village itself. Well stocked local shop and good pub food at the local pub in walking distance. Would definitely recommend this as a lovely place to stay and hope to return in the future.
Sehr freundlicher Empfang durch die Gastgeber, viele gute Tipps für Unternehmungen, große ausgefallene Wohnung, toller Garten.

So very welcoming!
We have had the most lovely stay in House Keepers, from being made to feel so very welcome on arrival the little touches mean so much, set in such beautiful grounds. Facilities and apartment were everything you could want and more, the most fabulous shower and such comfortable beds. Lovely village with perfect pub food so no need to travel. Situated within fabulous countryside, reasonable driving distance of so many fantastic attractions, any help or suggestions you need just ask Ann & Manor, the greatest of hosts, nothing was too much trouble! We have so much more to see. A huge huge thank you for a wonderful break, just sorry it was over so quickly.

About the host
Hosted by Manor Scourfield
We are both retired headteachers who have chosen this new lifestyle.I was born and bread in west Wales and my wife is from Devon. We met while teaching in London area and relocated to the west country when we married in 1975.We thoroughly enjoy what we are now doing as we meet such a variety of interesting people who come and stay from one night to two weeks. We spend a lot of time in the garden which is Ann's pride and joy and she would spend as much time as possible tending it with much love and care. I think she prefers the company of the garden to that of me ! We try and get out as much as possible and enjoy our surroundings which never fails to amaze us. We feel so blessed with our home and area.
Why they chose this property
It provided us with both a home and a business opportunity, Both of us like to be busy and with this property there is always something to do. We have 3 holiday cottages even though one of them is on the top floor of our house. It is unique and has so many unusual features. It is independent of the rest of the house so we call it a cottage. It is very popular and well liked by our visitors. Our part of the house is well proportioned and Georgian in design and thus offers us something that we were unlikely to enjoy in smaller properties. We see it it very much as a lifestyle that many would like but could not afford. The house has strong links with Tom Poole and the poets Coleridge and Wordsworth who are credited with the formation of the Romantic movement. Some of their best poetry was written whilst living in the area.
What makes this property unique
The history of this place is quite atmospheric and the garden a joy. It is so quiet and inspirational and no wonder the poets drew inspiration for its surroundings. The walled garden was a definite attraction as it provides privacy and peace. You can move around and enjoy the different aspects, the light and shade creates such different atmospheres to savour.
