About this property

2 bedroom period cottage in charming seaside village

Recently renovated, Thornbank Cottage is a cosy semi-detached cottage dating from the 1760's in the heart of the historic Borders village of Coldingham on the Berwickshire coast. Our home is a perfect place for a family holiday or for a group of friends to explore one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland.

The cottage has been recently refurbished to a high standard and is warm and comfortable with double glazing, underfloor heating, radiators and a log burning stove in the sitting room.

Upstairs there is accommodation for four guests in two bedrooms, one with a king sized bed and one with two single beds. There is also a new bathroom with bath and power shower.

Downstairs is a sitting room with log burning stove and smart TV, with Freesat. Comfortable sofas seat six. After a hard day at the beach or rambling along the coast or inland you can relax with a film, a family board game or keep up to date with friends and family through the Wifi internet. The kitchen / dining room is fully equipped, including fridge freezer, oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine plus a dining table for up to six guests.

There is also a south facing sun-room, with chaise longue, arm chairs and a beanbag. This room leads to the secluded south facing patio garden with seating for outdoor eating and relaxing. The rear garden has a shed and storage area for bikes or for cleaning wetsuits or surfboards. At the front is a sunny garden and there is also off street parking.

All linen and towels are provided, but you should bring your own towels for the beach. There are also the basics you need to cater for yourselves such as olive oil, salt and pepper, flour, pasta, kitchen roll, toilet paper etc. All we ask is that if you use a lot of the supplies, that you replace what you've used.

If you would like to have groceries delivered to the cottage after you have arrived, then Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco all deliver. So, just order your shopping on line and it will arrive while you are settling in.

The cottage has recently been awarded a Short Term Let Licence. Our licence number is: SB00067F

Great cottage and lovely relaxing stay

It was a great stay over New Year and just what was needed. The cottage was lovely and warm and loved all the extras, especially loved the log burner! The arrival pack was a lovely gesture and much appreciated. The cottage was very well equipped, just like a home from home! We will definitely be back for more exploring and cosy nights!

Very cosy cottage, didn't want for anything. Great base to explore from. walked along the coast to St. Abbs for crab sandwiches, visited the Priory, Eyemouth, Berwick on Tweed and had a lovely day at Bamborough Castle. Would definitely recommend!

Perfect cottage for a little peace and quiet

Wonderful cottage with excellent facilities. Super clean and perfect for our needs. The village was quiet but with a couple of local pubs. We went for a lovely short walk down to St Abbs for a cuppa by the sea. Beautiful views! Communication with Milda was excellent. We can't wait to return!

Great place to holiday

The house lived up to all its previous billing. Lots of little extras and an excellent guide to all in the house. Great information for walks and activities from Edinburgh to mid Northumberland. It would have been nice to actually meet Milda.

A Wonderful Cottage in a Lovely Location!

Thornbank Cottage is so pretty and cozy, well appointed for a very comfortable stay in Coldingham. We rented the property for a week and enjoyed the very easy stroll to the village shops and pubs, along with the beautiful walks through the woods and countryside to the sea. The kitchen is very well outfitted for cooking, which we did quite a bit. Milda was exceptionally responsive and helpful, including when we had to adjust the dates of our vacation. I would highly recommend this cottage and would love to return!

Perfect

This cottage is perfect. Everything works and all your needs are catered for. Everything had been carefully thought about. We borrowed a wind break and some blankets from the garden shed and played a new board game. The walk to the sea is a lovely short walk along well kept footpaths. We hope to return next year.

Wish we had longer

What a beautiful place. It feels unfortunate that we stayed for a wedding and never got to really enjoy what was on offer. The place seemed incredible with all you could wish for for a longer stay. We can say the beds were comfortable, kitchen had all we needed and Milda was amazing. The small surprises were great like the mini toiletry selection, the fully stocked larder with iron and board and some basics in the kitchen. Area was in recredible and everything was on the doorstep. Only shame was we could stay longer to appreciate it all. Thank you Milda

Homely and warm cottage.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Thornbank Cottage, was warm, cosy and mostly in good clean working order. The beds and pillows were exceptionally comfy. The cottage is equipped with everything you would need. However it would benefit from a few improvements such as hanging space in master bedroom, more ambiant lighting overall and art work maybe? More coat pegs in the entrance porch too. We found the lock to the patio doors difficult to use (it has a nack to it, which only my husband could manage). There was no welcome pack at all not so much as a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits. However overall it was well worth the money and the location was perfect for the beach and local walks etc. We were sad to leave.

I live in Edinburgh with my husband and son. My main work is as a Leadership Development Consultant and I work with many different industries and clients based around the world. I work from home which gives me lots of flexibility which I enjoy. Apart from work, my main interest is music - particularly singing.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because we love the village of Coldingham - it has lots of amenities, it's close to the sea (having grown up in the middle of England, I love being near the sea!) and it's also close to lots of beautiful countryside. The cottage is such a warm, welcoming place - we loved it as soon as we saw it.

What makes this property unique

We've set up the cottage to be a home from home. You can use to kitchen to bake, cook and hang out in! It's relaxing, comfortable and cosy - so it's the perfect place to take a break whatever the weather. There are games, videos, music - lots of entertainments just in case the weather is against you! We love staying there as well as offering it as a fabulous place for a break for our guests.
