About this property
Lovingly converted 1st floor Victorian corn store near coast perfect for couples
This impressive first floor apartment for 2 people with luxurious king-size bed combines its original Victorian charm with a stylish interior. An ideal location for exploring unspoilt north Cornwall & Devon, with beaches and the coast path nearby. Due to the steps leading up to the front door sadly it is not suitable for those with mobility problems. Relax in the peace and quiet, sink into the sumptuous king size mattress, and enjoy your home comforts: the perfect retreat. The Corn Store is well insulated and during the colder months the heating is constantly on during the day.
Make the most of your break using our customised information on local walks, and places to visit. You can discover hidden gems that only the locals know about.
Treat yourself to breakfast on the balcony, enjoy the walk-in shower, curl up in front of the wood burner, or have a drink on the mezzanine looking out across rolling countryside.
This light, warm and spacious one-bed apartment has been completed to a very high standard, offering guests a home from home experience. Its attractive Victorian stone exterior and spacious balcony give it pride of place in the courtyard, with parking directly outside. Guests need to be mobile enough to negotiate a steep flight of steps up to the front door, and will need a car to get around.
The interior is all about making our guests feel welcome and at home. The en-suite shower room has underfloor heating and a generous walk-in shower. The large open plan living area has a fully equipped fitted kitchen with dishwasher, and seating area with cosy wood-burning stove and 43” smart TV, with an oak staircase leading up to the mezzanine level with spectacular views. In addition, there’s a separate utility room close by with clothes washing facilities, and additional freezer space if you need it.
The Corn Store only has planning consent as holiday accommodation so by booking it you are not preventing a local family from having a home to rent.
Although we’re no longer a working farm you can often see a local farmer’s attractive Stabiliser cattle grazing in our organic field, and we keep a few chickens. Depending on the time of year you might see geese or ducks rearing their young on our wildlife pond or long-eared bats catching insects at dusk, both visible from the mezzanine window. We provide binoculars to help you spot the birdlife, including the Great Spotted Woodpecker, goldfinch, tits and chaffinches on our birdfeeders. Our black and white rescue cat, Bubble, keeps a watchful eye over the whole farm.
As you step into the living area you'll notice how light, spacious and welcoming the space is, and how much love and attention has been put into the conversion. Soak up the morning sun on the balcony in the peace and quiet. Or relax inside the Corn Store reading, completing a jigsaw, watching TV, or cooking a favourite meal. On colder days the insulation and heating keep the interior very warm, and you can create an even more cosy vibe with the wood burner.
In the living area you have a large, fully-equipped kitchen with plenty of storage space, oven hood, supplies of tea, coffee and sugar, and 2 pints semi-skimmed milk when you arrive. There are dishwasher tablets and cleaning products, with tea and hand towels.
As the main photo shows there's a sofa and armchair facing the smart TV, next to the wood burner. There's also a tower fan for the hotter days and a clock showing the current tide height locally, very useful when you want plenty of sand to walk on. On the right side of the room is a large, concealed store room under the mezzanine with iron & ironing board, a useful space for storing suitcases.
A locally crafted, oak staircase leads up to the mezzanine level, the ideal chillout space to take in the views over the valley towards Devon with the binoculars, our wildlife pond, and a local farmer's cattle in our field. There's also a table with jigsaws if you fancy trying to complete one before you leave.
The bedroom leads off to the left of the living area. The king-sized bed has a high-end Relyon mattress, pressed cotton bedlinen and an all-seasons feather duvet so you can change it to a warmer/cooler tog if you prefer. Each guest has a synthetic, and a feather pillow, but we can provide a firmer pillow. We turn the mattress between each booking. The window overlooks the courtyard and has blackout curtains.
The en-suite bathroom has a quiet fan, a tiled floor with underfloor heating in winter, and the most glorious walk-in shower with a hair shower and soaker. It's wifi-operated so you can set the temperature and then step under the water. Lots of storage, and hand soap is provided.
Most of the free space in our courtyard buildings is used for storage, but we have one other holiday cottage for couples. It is completely separate to the Corn Store, with entrance and parking on the other side of the courtyard. So you may meet a guest in the shared Utility room which houses a washing machine + washing materials, dryer, larger recycling bins, and tourist leaflets.
We love welcoming guests from all areas of the UK and the world, with the aim that that they return home with great memories of their stay here.

About the host
Hosted by Riki Riley

When we unexpectedly found ourselves without jobs after many years of commuting to London we decided to do something completely different - a real lifestyle change. So we bought our dream property in North Cornwall and haven't looked back. Our 5 children are independent; one lives locally with his family, and the remainder still live in SW London. Between us we are proud grandparents to 11 grandchildren. We have Bubble, surviving brother to Squeak, who we rescued from Cats Protection in 2015. Martin has nurtured a flock of chickens - all different breeds - and built a magnificent 'chicken hotel'. We're both keen photographers and walkers - both of which go very much hand-in-hand here. We both worked in London for many years, and met whilst working for a global publishing company. Riki worked locally as a care worker for 4 years, whilst Martin volunteered as a watch keeper at the National Coast Watch Institute at Boscastle. Our aim is that guests thoroughly enjoy the Barn, its location, and the surrounding area.
Why they chose this property
We knew instantly that this was the home for us - it's a truly magical, undiscovered spot. It offers the best of everything -we're in a quiet rural hamlet and yet you can get to the Atlantic Highway (A39) quickly, which links North Devon to South Cornwall. So we're easy to find. Woolley is a very friendly community and made us feel very welcome from the start. Creating this conversion has been a labour of love and we're very proud of the result. It complements our courtyard.
We have worked tirelessly to improve the fabric of our farmhouse and all its buildings - a bit like painting the Forth Bridge .... but I'm sure we'll get there in the end!

Don't worry about how much luggage you bring - there's plenty of storage in the shower room, kitchen area, and cupboard space under the mezzanine.
