About this property
Rustic Authentic Michigan Log Cabin
# Kelly's Point – A Rustic Lake Michigan Escape
## **Please Read Before Booking**
Kelly's Point is a nearly 100-year-old historic cabin located just 40 feet from the shoreline of Lake Michigan in a wooded, natural setting. Because of its age and location, you will likely encounter wildlife, depending on the season. This may include, but is not limited to, raccoons, skunks, bald eagles, squirrels, rodents, snakes, and other native wildlife.
If you have a phobia of wildlife or are uncomfortable staying in a natural environment where animals are present, Kelly's Point may not be the right fit for you—and that's perfectly okay. We completely understand. Experiencing nature up close is part of what makes Kelly's Point so special.
Wildlife populations naturally fluctuate from year to year as part of Beaver Island's delicate ecosystem.
**Well Water:** Kelly's Point is supplied by a private well. The water is tested and safe to drink. At times, it may have a slight sulfur (mineral) odor, and it may appear cloudy or white when first drawn due to tiny air bubbles. This is normal for well water and clears within a few moments.
---
Escape to an unspoiled corner of Beaver Island at Kelly's Point, a charming historic cabin situated on a private two-acre parcel just 40 feet from Lake Michigan. Wake up to breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and the Fox Islands, fall asleep to the sound of the waves, and experience the peaceful pace of island life.
## Getting to Beaver Island
Your journey begins in Charlevoix, Michigan. From there, choose either a scenic two-hour ferry ride aboard the Emerald Isle or a quick 20-minute flight to Beaver Island. You can also fly into Pellston or Traverse City and connect through Charlevoix.
**If you plan to bring your vehicle, reserve ferry space well in advance, as vehicle reservations often fill quickly.**
Once on the island, enjoy the slower pace, friendly community, and beautiful scenery. Kelly's Point is about a 20-minute drive from town along Beaver Island's scenic, mostly unpaved roads.
## The Cabin
Originally built in the 1930s, Kelly's Point has been thoughtfully updated while preserving its historic character. This 900-square-foot cabin comfortably accommodates two guests and features:
* One queen bedroom * Indoor toilet * Outdoor shower * Kitchen with sink * Electricity * Open-concept living space with eleven windows overlooking Lake Michigan * Spacious front porch * Private beachfront fire pit * A blend of new furnishings and island antiques
Kelly's Point is a historic, rustic cabin—not a luxury resort. While it offers modern conveniences, guests should expect the charm and character that come with staying in a nearly century-old island cabin.
## Things to Do
Whether you're looking for adventure or complete relaxation, Beaver Island offers something for everyone.
* Walk miles of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline * Swim in crystal-clear water (water shoes are recommended due to the natural rocky shoreline) * Watch spectacular sunrises and sunsets * Roast marshmallows around the beach fire pit * Stargaze under some of Michigan's darkest skies * Explore more than 100 miles of island roads * Visit the island's restaurants, shops, museums, and lighthouses * Fish, kayak, birdwatch, or enjoy one of the inland lakes * Relax on the porch with a good book and listen to the waves
Whether you spend your days exploring the island or simply unwinding by the water, Kelly's Point offers a peaceful escape you'll remember long after your trip ends.

It is was an amazing experience. Rustic is exactly what you get. The views , the cozy feeling, the tranquility and peaceful feeling you get just sitting or even when you are falling asleep listening to the waves crash and feeling the breeze is worth it all and you forget everything. The only thing I would say should be part of the description is , there are snake dens very close to the cabin, although not dangerous or venomous (thank God) but for someone who might have a phobia of snakes that could be very threatening to them and they could get hurt. Also the water it is well water it comes out very white and has very bad smell to it. I do suggest you bring water bottles or you make sure to the boil it before drinking it. They say it is drinkable but I couldn’t bare the smell of it. Lots of bugs in and around but nothing a good bug spray and fly swaps can’t take care of. Oh one last thing the beach is very very rocky, so if you are looking to swim you have to walk a good amount (about 150 feet maybe) before hitting ground that isn’t slippery rocky or shallow. So water shoes are a most!!! There is a sandy beach about 10 min drive from the cabin.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We're so glad you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the sound of the waves, and the rustic charm of the cabin—those are exactly the experiences we hope our guests have.
We also appreciate your feedback. Since your stay, we've been working with pest control and landscapers and are making additional improvements to the landscaping around the cabin to further discourage snakes from the immediate perimeter. As the cabin is located in a natural lakeside environment, wildlife can occasionally be present, but we are committed to doing everything we reasonably can to make guests feel comfortable.
We'd also like to clarify that the well water is tested and safe to drink. The temporary white appearance is caused by tiny air bubbles, which quickly dissipate, and the occasional sulfur smell is common with well water in many areas.
I don't know where to start. All I can tell you, I was reading some reviews about snakes and I reached out to gerry and I told him my concerns, and i'm very afraid of snakes, he assured me that the cabin was always cleaned. And that they checked for snakes and maybe I would see one by the shoreline if that while we arrived there and there was snakes everywhere inside outside under cushions, it was terrible. It was awful. That was my main concern was those snakes, and it was so scary and gross. He refused to give us our money back.So we are disputing right now with other avenue, is we check into a hotel. We were only in that rustic, so called cabin for about thirty minutes until we saw the snakes crawling all over each other. It was unbelievable, it was like a horror movie. The water and the faucet comes out white like milk.He claims it was air.In the lines and kept it running for as long as we were there, which was only about twenty minutes before we ran out of there. It was just horrible, horrible, horrible, don't buy into it, but

The snakes were not inside the cabin. They were outside on the property, which is in a natural lakeside environment. While we cannot control wildlife in its natural habitat, we have taken additional measures by working with pest control and landscapers and are bringing in fresh sand this week to reduce the rocky areas where snakes may gather and help discourage them from the cabin perimeter.
The white appearance of the well water was simply air bubbles, which is normal and clears quickly.
We stand by the accuracy of our listing and the condition of the cabin.
SNAKE PARADISEWe thought there may be a few snakes here and there but we did not expect a snake population of 10-15 to be inhabiting the length of the porch walkway daily.Day 1 - snake on the porch at breakfast so there ended our "chillin' on the porch" vibe. Literally PILES of SNAKES, many large ones coiled together with a circumference of 9" & very long (3-5 feet) along the front porch walkway and adjacent to the beach ramp. Not only were they uncomfortable to be around and to look at each time we went down the steps of the porch, they were intimidating. (It is a consolation prize that Beaver Island snakes are non-venomous and non-constricting). We contacted the host Day 1 and were told they have not had a snake problem this year. The host responded each time we reached out. They also had the property treated by pest control with a natural wildlife deterrent spray. It did not deter the snakes. We requested a partial refund. We believe the likelihood of 10-15 snakes lining the porch walkway should be DISCLOSED for full transparency. Truly a 6 day vacation we will never forget but not for the reasons we had hoped. We were unable to enjoy the porch and the beach as planned. We did enjoy the breathtaking view and the sound of the waves! But we didn't leave rested. :(We appreciated the quick responses from the host but would not have booked had we known the reality of the snake population.Cabin rugs need to be vacuumed thoroughly between guests.

We appreciate your feedback. After several years of high water levels, we had to install a large rock seawall to protect the property from erosion. Unfortunately, the rocks created an ideal habitat for native, non-venomous snakes.
As you noted in your review, we responded immediately to your concerns and arranged for a pest control company to travel to Beaver Island during the peak of the Canadian wildfire smoke, when air quality across Michigan was at its worst. While the treatment did not eliminate the snakes, we took your concerns seriously and made every effort to address the issue as quickly as possible.
We are now bringing in sand to fill the gaps between the rocks to eliminate that habitat and significantly reduce snake activity around the property while continuing to protect the shoreline.
We loved our stay at Kelly’s Point! The little cabin was everything we’d hoped it’d be and more. It was clean, well stocked and so dang charming. The views, the stars, the peace- it’s a week we won’t ever forget. Gerry was SO helpful with all our pre trip questions and made check in and directions so easy. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
This was our second summer staying here and we absolutely love the location! We're so glad there is now an enclosure around the shower. We definitely plan to return for many more summers.
This cabin is the perfect getaway! We celebrated our 10th anniversary here and couldn't have asked for a more peaceful and beautiful place to stay. We loved the rustic atmosphere and only wish we could have stayed longer!
We absolutely loved being surrounded by nature and the waves. Rustic is completely accurate but the time away makes it worth the treck to a little secluded cabin on the water. Thank you Gerry!
This was the perfect spot to have a quiet get-away. It was nice to be on the south end of the island and close to all the natural features of the island.
In one word...peaceful.
Great cabin! Waking up every morning with the lake view out from the window is the most perfect thing in the world! Tim and I loved sitting out on the porch and just taking in the scenery. The whole island has lots to see and lots to explore. We loved the hiking trails, protars cabin, the cute town, and the restaurants with it's delicious meals! And I genuinely loved using the VHS/VCR player in the cabin. I haven't used one of those in years! One night we were relaxing on the couch with the warmth of the fireplace, enjoying a hot cup of tea and watching 'grumpy old men. It was perfect! Thank you for letting us stay in your cabin for a few nights!
The cabin was like stepping back in time(with some modern convenience)! Beautiful blue waters lapping at the beach. Warm cozy fires in the evening. Brilliant night sky views. We enjoyed the island, the bays and especially the cabin!
Cozy, rustic cottage right on the water. Secluded and quiet aside from the sound of the waves on water and the wind. Warm fireplace inside and fresh crisp air off the water flowing through the windows if you wish. Simply beautiful, relaxing, and special. Loved it, thank you!
This is definitely an old cabin. Takes you back in time. If you want peace and quiet Then this is the place to be. Seen a few snakes and the mosquitoes were kind of rough but I would definitely go back.
Everything was amazing and comfortable and relaxing, only “issues” was a giant spider we came across in the bathroom plus all the little flies and spiders everywhere else but for a cabin on the water in beaver island it’s pretty much spotless

Lovely little break from society in your very rustic piece of paradise. It's only a 1/2 bath as there is no shower or bath facility. When you say bring towels we naturally assumed bath towels not kitchen. Lol. Great experience .
We were suppose to stay at Kelly's Point but received a call from the owners that there was a Snake problem so they would have to place us at their private residence on the Island which was Eagles Nest.
It was beautiful! Log cabin on the lake with kayaks and bikes to use! It was Private and quiet!
It could have used a good dusting and cleaning but very nice!
This was our 3rd year staying here and we have never been disappointed! It's a spectacular place to stay. There's so much rustic charm in the place. You see so much wildlife and the sunrises are beautiful. The entire island is like going back in time. There's not a single thing we would change. The owners are great as well. Our power went out and I messaged them to see if they could find out when it would be back on and they responded quickly. It ended up coming right back on though. We are already planning our trip for next year!!

Although the location of this cabin is spectacular, each day (and upon first entering) we had to deal with water snakes. This was unsettling to say the least. We paid for 4 nights but only stayed 2. In all I had to deal with 5 snakes over our brief stay.

We are very sorry to hear you had a run in with the local snakes. We would have appreciated hearing about this during your stay, rather than after departure. We have since worked with the local pest control company on the island to control the snakes near the cabin. However, the cabins location near the lake (one of its' unique characteristics) prohibits a complete eradication of them.
