About this property
Fabulous Elizabethan 16th century 5 bedroom house with large enclosed garden
With accommodation for 6 to 10 people (please ask for a quote for under occupancy 1-6 persons) Abbey Farm would be ideal for a larger family, a group of friends wanting to gettogether or indeed for special birthdays and wedding groups as it is close to some excellent wedding venues. An ideal house for celebrations, elegant dinner parties, and special family weekends, with plenty of space to create unforgettable moments — Add a touch of drama with your own murder mystery game and fancy dress for a truly memorable experience.
Abbey Farm, a sumptuous spacious detached farmhouse, perfect for larger families. This beautifully renovated house offers comfort and luxury in equal measure. There are two wood burners for those cooler evenings and a stunning, mature garden for those warm evenings just to sit in and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Abbey Farm has a large garden with good off road parking. The rear garden is fenced all round. The ponds in the grounds which are typical of a 16th century house are fenced for safety . The large enclosed garden includes areas of lawn, shrub borders, and trees. There are several seating areas and a large table which easily accommodates 10, a fire pit and BBQ are there for you to enjoy. Very well equipped kitchen with everything that the budding chef could need or indeed to hire a private chef for that special occasion. Approximately 2 hours drive from London.
Located in Thrandeston, guests can visit all that Suffolk and Norfolk has to offer, as you are located right on the border. The Suffolk Heritage Coast is only 25 miles away, where you can visit Southwold with its famous pier, Aldeburgh for its abundance of great food and restaurants, and Lowestoft, the most easterly point in the UK.
Bressingham Steam Museum, Oasis Camel Centre, Banham Zoo and Framlingham Castle are all a short drive away.
If a drive isn’t in your plans, you can put on your boots and explore the many walks and cycle trails in the surrounding area. There is a secure shed for your bikes. A particular favourite is the 12 miles of footpaths through The Thornham Estate, an ancient parkland, with woodland and farmland, as well as a Victorian walled garden. A perfect location for walkers, cyclists or anyone with an interest in history or wildlife Abbey Farm is close on the Suffolk Norfolk border in an area rich in historic treasure and wildlife sanctuaries including Redgrave and Lopham Fen a wild watery landscape of sedge, rush, heath and hundreds of pools created over many centuries by local people as they eked out a living, digging peat for fuel and cutting reed and sedge for thatching.
For shopping: Diss has a good selection of supermarkets and small independents with a market on Friday mornings together with Chemists and everything you may need during your visit. Eye has a Deli, Pharmacy, Post Office and some very nice gift and antique shops and two small Co-Op supermarkets.
Self-catering eating and drinking: Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose deliverer to Abbey Farm and there are lots of lovely independent butchers, bakers and Delicatessens in Diss and Eye and both have a good selection of supermarkets. Diss has its weekly market on Fridays. On Wednesday mornings a Country Market is held in the town hall in Eye.
Eating out: Diss has an excellent selection of eateries, from tea shops to restaurants. Nearer to Abbey Farm you have the beautiful Oaksmere Hotel with a lovely restaurant and cocktail bar and a public bar where they also serve bar food. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the public bar.
