Lastly, there is a beautiful glimpse of the Edinburgh castle that guests will love to see during the sunrise hours, right before you start your adventurous day.

Guest Access:
You will have all the space to yourself for the duration of your stay, however just for your information Ruary and Kari have their own private bedroom on the property and the door to this is locked.

The Neighborhood:
LOCAL SHOPS: Nearly everything you’re likely to want is available within minutes of the front door, in Shandwick Place, Queensferry Street, Stafford Street and William Street. There are two supermarkets, a pharmacy, two health food shops, a stationers and several very trendy clothes shops. And more!

LOCAL EATERIES: You’re spoilt for choice, even within easy walking distance. From simple takeaways like Prêt-á-Manger, to reliable pizza places like Pizza Express, to more fashionable places like Home at Maison Bleu and the Escargot Blanc, to the three pubs in William Street, there are really so many.

Getting Around:
If you’re arriving from the Airport, you can take the Airport Express Bus or the Tram. Both come directly into the City Centre. Get off at the West End. You will find yourselves in Shandwick Place, which is parallel to Alva Street. It’s a 2 minute walk to the flat from there, via Stafford Street.

If you’re arriving at Waverley railway station, a 22 bus will take you along Princes Street to the West End. Alva Street is immediately behind Shandwick Place.

If you’re coming from Haymarket railway station, any bus heading east will take you to Shandwick Place. We’re just around the corner.

In either case, it’s only about a 15 minute walk from the stations.
The two main bus companies are Lothian Buses and First Buses. Both have websites and handy apps. We’ve added a bit more detail below to help you get around once you’ve arrived.

TRANSPORT
Our flat is ideally placed as a starting point for everywhere in Edinburgh, and the two train stations close by are perfect for setting off to other parts of Scotland.

TAXIS:
There’s a taxi rank just at the other end of Alva Street, on the other side of the road on Queensferry Street. (In case you’re unsure, a 10% tip ensures your cabbie will stay happy and helpful.)

BUSES: Shandwick Place, which is the main street immediately south of and parallel to Alva Street has bus connections to almost every single place in the city, including the airport. The tram stop is just there, too. There’s a bus/tram map on the shelf in the sitting room.

TRAINS: The main railway station for Edinburgh is Waverley. It’s a short bus ride away at the other (eastern) end of Princes Street. There’s also Haymarket station, which is an even shorter ride (or a ten minute walk) westwards from Shandwick Place.
