Thank you Patricia for your wonderful review.
So lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay so much and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
We really enjoyed our stay at this thatched house near Bury St.Edmunds and we found so much to do in the area that our week-long stay passed very quickly. We particularly enjoyed the comfortable bed and the perfect garden, enjoying several meals at the outside table. An very unusual place that we were fascinated by was Grimes Graves, a Neolithic flint mine.

Thank you Peter for your wonderful review and so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at 6 The Green.
It’s a lovely time of year to enjoy our garden.
Grimes Graves are fascinating so it was wonderful to hear you enjoyed your visit.
Tracy's cottage is a charming example of English country cottage, updated just enough (but not too much.) The important things are modern: heating, kitchen, clothes washing, bathroom. And the important parts are classic: thatched roof, cottage interior. A lovely location on Flempton green within easy drive of our favorite places around Bury.

Thank you Michael for your wonderful review and so pleased you enjoyed staying at our cottage.
We absolutely loved our stay at The Green! The cottage is beautiful with its thatched roof, ceiling beams and big fireplace. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything you might need & a lovely private garden to enjoy the summer evenings.
Communication with Tracy was excellent. She made sure we had everything we needed and provided some brilliant personalised recommendations for things to do/happening in the local area. The cottage is located conveniently for lots of attractions and a short drive into the town centre. Wish we could have stayed for longer & would love to return one day.

A lovely cottage mixing the traditional with the modern. A lovely welcome basket with bread, milk, cereals & homemade delicious jam. Kitchen had plenty of pots & pans as well as plates, glasses etc. Beds were very comfortable & our son loved his bedroom which was under the “ thatch” & accessed via a narrow, steep spiral staircase. Very quiet & lovely to sit in the backyard in the afternoon & listen to the birds.

What more could you ask for! Stunning property with everything you could need. Bedding and towels were luxurious, open fire made the living area very cosy, the garden was great for the children to play in -as was the green opposite the cottage. Tracy was extremely helpful throughout. We will definitely be back.

Set in a quiet peaceful village with beautiful garden and a variety of sitting out areas yet only 5 miles out of historic Bury. Good on drive parking. When entering the cottage it was clear how well kept the cottage is and how clean clearly keeping to COVID guidelines. There was a welcome basket in the kitchen and various information sent before arrival. The map of West Stow Country Park very helpful. It is also well worth visiting Fuller Mill garden. The latter 2 are quite near the cottage. Please be aware that there is a steep step in the bathroom before getting to bath and toilet and a steep step into the lounge. There is a large twin room upstairs, double is on ground floor. However, you need to be quite agile to use the stairs.
This cottage served as a great base of operations for a short holiday exploring Bury and its surroundings. Our boys loved the twin beds in the roof and the space for play on the landing outside, though two adults might feel a little cramped in the same space. There was plenty of space in the living area and kitchen and all you could need for self catering, even sharp knives! The back garden was beautiful, it was a shame we couldn't spend more time out there due to the weather. Highly recommended :-)

About the host
Hosted by Tracy Kennedy
Hi, I’m Tracy, and I’d love to welcome you to our cottage.
After moving to beautiful Bury St Edmunds in 2014, I spent time lovingly renovating our thatched home and began hosting guests in 2017. Creating a warm, comfortable space where people can truly relax has been such a joy.
I’ve worked in customer service for over 30 years, so looking after people has always been at the heart of what I do. I genuinely enjoy meeting guests from all over the world and helping them feel at home from the moment they arrive.
When I’m not hosting, you’ll usually find me baking, making jams and chutneys from fruit in the garden, or out enjoying peaceful country walks in the surrounding countryside. I’m always happy to share local tips, favourite spots, and little touches to make your stay extra special.
I look forward to welcoming you and helping you enjoy a cosy, memorable stay in Suffolk.
Why they chose this property
Our cottage is a quintessential thatched home overlooking the village green, and I fell in love with the area the very first time I saw it.
It’s a truly beautiful Suffolk village, peaceful and full of countryside charm, yet perfectly placed for exploring. From the doorstep you can enjoy wonderful walks through Kings Forest, Culford Park, West Stow Country Park, and along scenic river paths – ideal for stretching your legs and soaking up the fresh country air.
At the same time, the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds is just a 10-minute drive away, offering lovely independent shops, a bustling market, and a fantastic choice of restaurants and cafés – perfect for a relaxed day out.
For me, it’s the best of both worlds: quiet rural surroundings with everything you need close by.
What makes this property unique
6 The Green is a truly special home, dating back to 1640 and full of character and history. With its wealth of original beams and period features, the cottage beautifully reflects its heritage while offering all the comforts of modern living.
Originally a workers’ cottage for the Hengrave Estate, it has been lovingly restored over the years and is now the only thatched property overlooking the village green – something that makes it feel both unique and wonderfully timeless.
There’s something magical about staying in a home with so much history, where centuries-old charm meets cosy, relaxed cottage living.
