About this property
Hen Stabl - A charming 18th century stone character stables conversion
Hen Stabl is an 18th century stone cottage located within the Snowdonia National Park. Originally the cottage was built as the stables to the parish house of Llanfair. Hen Stabl was saved from ruin and refurbished in the late 1990's by order of Snowdonia National Park due to it's significant historic interest to the village of Llanfair.
The living accommodation at Hen Stabl has been totally refurbished over the past eighteen months to include newly fitted kitchen and bathroom. The layout to Hen Stabl is quirky and on the ground floor you will find two bedrooms, and a bathroom leading from a large hallway. On the first floor is the living accommodation with its high vaulted ceiling, it’s a sociable open plan living space consisting of lounge, dining area and kitchen.
There is ample on road parking at the front of the cottage.
Hen Stabl stands in an enviable location for anyone wanting to explore the Snowdonia National Park, the stunning beaches of Harlech and Llandanwg are only a 10/15 minute walk from the front door. At the rear of the cottage there is a large garden with several seating areas which is shared with our second holiday cottage, Ty Golchi, there is a direct footpath approximately 50 meters from Hen Stabl leading to the hills and mountain range of Rhinog Fawr.

What an idyllic cottage! The accommodation is so cozy, well equipped and immaculate. The owners are so friendly, we really enjoyed our stay, and it was such a shame to leave will definitely book again soon.
Wonderful place! Everything was perfect for our stay. The house is beautifully decorated and well thought out. Very comfortable and well equipped accommodation in a lovely location. Highly recommended. Gary is a friendly and helpful host.
Gary was a great host - he was so helpful and responded promptly to any queries or requests. The cottage is beautiful! Tastefully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The setting is stunning. We were so sad to leave. Will definitely be returning.

We stayed in this amazing property for 5 nights and loved it!The instructions from the host before arrival were detailed and clear (covering everything we could possibly have wanted to know)Lovely big entrance area which led off to the bedrooms/bathroom and stairs up to the living area/kitchen which is all one big open plan room. Bedroom had plenty of space, bedside tables on both sides of the bed and a large chest of drawers. There were also a few hooks and hangers. We didn't use the other bedroom but that had a large bunk bed, more drawers and more hangers & rails for hanging clothes.Good size bathroom. Bath with super powerful shower over it. 2 good mirrors and a small cupboard. The star of the house was the upstairs though!Massive room with high ceilings. Plenty of seating with sofas and dining table. The kitchen that was very well equipped, with everything we needed to cook meals ourselves. 4 skylight windows allow the air to move through the upstairs. Between those and the fire exit there's plenty of light in the daytime. Also plenty of lights for when it gets dark.(You can see the sea in the distance!)Near to Llandanwg beach and Harlech town/beach, and not far to drive in any direction to get to amazingly scenic places to go walking. Our favourite was the Precipice walk near Dolgellau. We'd also recommend a day at Nantcol waterfalls and dinner at The Victoria Inn (Llanbedr). We had an amazing stay here and will happily return when we're in the area.
We spent a lovely 5 days at Hen Stabl. The accommodation and garden was fantastic. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. The only negative was that we had to leave. We will definitely return!
Lovely cottage beautifully decorated with everything we needed for a one week stay. Close to the beach and lots of beautiful walks. Would highly recommend!
The property was perfect for what we needed for our trip. It was super clean, modern and beautiful to return back after days out. Gary was very helpful.
We loved our stay here. Close to the beach and the castle. The property itself it beautifully finished and the garden space was fantastic! Hosts were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back to stay again
We had a short break, Thursday to Sunday. The home was comfortable and warm (we did experience a significant storm on the Friday) and hunkered down with the log fire.Communication with the host was good, he was very responsive when i asked for more firewood. Clean property and well equipped.
What an amazing find. Superb place to stay close to all the North Wales sights we had on our list! Property was beautifully clean, stylish, fully equipped and with a lovely huge garden. We have stayed in a lot of great Vrbo properties and this is one of our favourites.
Beautiful cottage, warm, welcoming and cosy with everything you need, lots of quirky touches. Amazing shared garden with lots of sitting places. Highly recommend.
House was in excellent order and was exactly as described. Great location with some excellent beaches nearby and excellent for cycling on quiet country roads.
We had an amazing 2 weeks at Hen Stable! We loved the beautiful garden and cozy living area! You definitely need a car, but we did go on nice walks from the cottage. Gary was so kind and helpful! …always available for questions. We had dinner at the Victoria Inn in Harlech…delicious! We hope to visit again!
Perfect little get away property, very well maintained. Clean with all the expected amenities. The local welcome gifts were a nice touch. Location was perfect for the beach and access to local sights. We very much enjoyed our stay.
We had such a lovely stay at Hen Stabl. The location was perfect—peaceful and tucked away, but still really close to the beach, towns, restaurants, and plenty of things to do. Our hosts were so friendly and full of interesting stories about the history of the place—we could’ve chatted all day! We’d definitely recommend staying here and will 100% be booking again. Thanks so much!

About the host
Hosted by Gary Stevenson
We have dreamt of moving to Snowdonia for many years and now the dream has become a reality! We are now enjoying our time managing the cottages at Llanfair and Dolgellau and taking time to soak up the beauty and healthy lifestyle that Snowdonia has to offer. We have brought a house which will be an on-going project as we have lots of ideas and aspersions to make it our perfect home.
Why they chose this property
We had been looking for a second cottage in Snowdonia to buy as a holiday home and we had specific requirements regarding the location. We wanted a cottage which was close to the beach and preferably with a sea view, we also wanted the cottage to be close to the countryside and mountains. We like to walk and explore so having all of this on our doorstep was important to us. When we came across Hen Stabl we knew that it was the cottage for us as it ticked all of the boxes on our wish list and in November 2017 we collected the keys and started the refurbishment project!
What makes this property unique
Hen Stabl is situated on the main bus route which services most of the main market towns and villages, it runs at regular intervals and the stop is only just up the lane from the cottage. There is a train stop at Llandanwg and Pensarn; both are only a 10minute walk from the cottage. The train is only made up of two carriages and you have to put your hand out for it to stop! Again it services all of the coastal villages and towns that you’ll probably want to visit. If you wanted to go further afield you can get to Birmingham with only one change!
