Luxury Hayshed Cottage with hot tub near St Andrews
Balass Hayshed Cottage provides a romantic setting for couples who enjoy a little luxury. With outlooks over our Mediterranean feel courtyard garden and access to a hot tub for the exclusive use of Hayshed guests. The tub is regularly cleaned between guest visits and the chemical balance of the tub is monitored. We have aimed to provide total comfort with all you could want to ensure a great holiday. We have White Company bedlinen, towels and bathrobes and the most comfortable of beds with a thick mattress topper described as “like sleeping on clouds”. We have feather duvets and pillows. There is additional sleeping accommodation in the loft area of the property with a similarly super-comfortable bed. The property is a 12 - 20 minute drive from St Andrews and there you have access to the lovely university town with its many golf courses, beautiful beaches and wonderful restaurants. We are 5 minutes from the local railway station and an hour’s train journey from Edinburgh. Dundee is a 25 minute drive with the new V and A Museum amongst many other attractions. There is also access to Royal Deeside about an hour away by car . The countryside featured in The Crown and Outlander can be reached easily. Many guests use this as a centralised base to reach additional golf courses including Gleneagles and Carnoustie. The property has wifi but we live in the country and we do not have fibre broadband. The signal has been boosted as much as possible but guests will not get the reception that they can expect urban settings.

Thanks for your review Dawn
Sorry that the tub was not for your exclusive use. It doesn’t often happen that both cottages are booked together but hopefully if you come back the tub will be yours throughout your stay

When we arrived the accommodation was in perfect condition. With it being easy to find, in the countryside but still not to far from the centre of Cupar. Was so quiet and enjoyable and to add the cottage was so cosy which made the experience even better. Would love to come back here as everything was just like we wanted our little break to be x

Lovely guests who left the cottage in an immaculate condition.
Looking forward to seeing them again - maybe with their family.
It’s was exactly as described on the app . Sue is a wonderful host who gave a superb check in guide and answered requests promptly . Although a shared courtyard it’s design still gave lots of privacy for our stay . I would highly recommend this accommodation to friends and family . I would love to visit again

This is an amazing property. We loved being out in the country, yet close to St Andrews. The owners (Susan & Doug) are wonderful people. They made us feel like part of their family. We will be going back next year. I would highly recommend this property!!!

Tony and Jane were great guests and now great friends. They looked after our cottage, they made the most of their trip to Fife and we look forward to their return next year.
We have used the cottage for four years to stay while we drop our daughter off each year at St Andrews University. The owners are fantastic, friendly and helpful and the property has everything you will need for your stay. The cottage is well thought-out and very clean with great linens and towels. We have loved our time each year.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and you are welcome back any time.
We had a wonderful relaxing break at the Hayshed Cottage! Susan met us on arrival and explained everything we needed to know. The cottage is very cute and spotlessly clean! I particularly liked the high quality towels and bedding and the availability of extra towels for the hot tub. We weren’t blessed with good weather due to the time of year and would love to visit again in the warmer months. Would definitely recommend a stay here!!

Thank you for your kind review
We would be very happy to welcome you back anytime
We had a lovely few days in this property and the weather was stunning too. We made good use of the hot tub, the bbq and the walled garden great for relaxing. About a mile or so out of Cupar so not suitable to walk into. Very central to visit local things though we went to the East coast Crail, Anstruther etc and also went the other way to Fawlkand and Auchtrrmucty. All in all very good x
The Hayshed Cottage was a lovely small cottage in an idyllic countryside setting just outside Cupar. Everything was very clean and the linens of high quality. Despite its wee size, we prepared several dinners in the kitchen. The newly upgraded WiFi was amazing! The main bed was truly lovely but just know that it's on the small side. Be advised you may be sharing the courtyard with guests staying at the adjoining cottage. We had a lovely stay and would recommend the cottage to others.

Liked: Cleanliness, location
On the whole it was nice but little few things didn’t make it “luxury”. Sofa wasn’t comfortable, duvet was too hot for season, cobwebs in the velux about kitchen, parking was difficult..really should park other way facing wall I think and have charging point on the wall for trip hazard where it is. And no egg cups

Thank you for your comments. For the avoidance of doubt there is adequate parking for 3 cars of normal size ie up to an SUV
If you are bringing a larger vehicle such as a truck or van please let me know in advance as additional parking can be provided
We also have some lighter duvets if requested.
We do not offer charging for electric vehicles
In this instance a guest saw an opportunity to charge his vehicle but he was advised to plug it in elsewhere when advised of trip hazard
Now have eggcups in all my cottages
The courtyard that the hot tub is really lovely and the pictures do not do it justice. The cottage was lovely and comfortable and great for myself and 17 year old son. The owner was very welcoming and we hopefully will visit again. The service that VBRO provides is lacking and poor communication re what the fees would be in the event of changing dates, which we needed to do. The owner communicated well but VBRO did not.

Glad you enjoyed your stay
What a pity both you and I had a problem with communication with VRBO
I hope readers of your review will realise that it was down to VRBO and not me that the booking changes caused an issue
Hope to see you again

Myself and a friend escaped our busy families for a few days to this beautiful place.
This is a sleek but cosy haybarn conversion. It's compact, but roomy enough for a couple or, like us, 2 friends. It has a real luxury feel to it. My friend loved the romance of the loft bed and the softest sheets she's ever slept on. We both spent hours in the hot tub every day in the beautiful courtyard, admiring the scented roses and watching the garden birds come and go to their nests.
Cupar is 3 minutes drive up the road and St Andrews less than 20. Plenty of options to eat out and walk.
We especially enjoyed the swing seat overlooking the fields, where we couldn't stop laughing at how affronted the sheep looked at us swinging there.
5 stars for this lovely place, definitely recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Williams
We have lived at Balass for our entire married life and have slowly but surely renovated the property. We have worked hard to make this a special place especially extending and improving the garden. We have 15 acres of fields and woods which guests are welcome to walk through or picnic in. We are keen gardeners and that is reflected in the various gardens at our home. We enjoy golf, tennis, skiing and watching rugby. Sue loves to cook, Douglas loves to eat !
Why they chose this property
This is a beautiful area of Scotland. We are surrounded by farmland but near to the town of Cupar , 5 minutes away by car, 20 minutes walk. The courtyard garden is very special with various areas to sit in to read or eat outside if the weather is good. The hot tub provides a great place to relax in the setting of the courtyard . The property is very comfortable with a blend of traditional build with modern interior. It has a very well equipped kitchen and if there is anything missing we can provide it from our own kitchen. We hope we have thought of everything but if we have not just tell us and we will do our best to oblige. We have herbs growing in the garden and all are welcome to help themselves .
What makes this property unique
Quiet, extremely comfortable and in a unique setting looking over the courtyard garden.
