Coastguards Beach House, a beautifully renovated 1875 Coastguards cottage, offers the perfect coastal retreat at Jury's Gap. Experience breathtaking views of both the sea and the marshland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, all while being just steps away from the beach and a short distance from the charming village of Camber and the historic town of Rye. Inside, you'll find a cozy log burner, comfortable lounge, and modern kitchen, making it the ideal location for a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Dining & Lounging

Coastguards Beach House has a contemporary and sociable open plan layout downstairs, ideal for enjoying the company of your holiday group. A log burning stove warms the space and sets the scene for relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine.

The newly equipped kitchen is fully stocked, with a breakfast bar and farmhouse dining table for planning the day ahead. For ingredients that are fresh as it gets, take a quick drive to Rye for seafood fresh from the boat and Romney marsh lamb from the local butchers. Talk to Beside the Sea for our recommendations!

Bed & Bath

Upstairs you'll find a beautiful, modern, family bathroom and two bedrooms.

The large, comfortable master bedroom has a double bed with views of the sea, coastal garden and adjoining coastguard cottages.

A family bathroom includes wash hand basin, w.c and a raised shower bath with screen, providing you a coveted choice between a relaxing bubble bath whilst stargazing, or a refreshing shower with a view of waves lapping the shore.

The second bedroom has two 3ft beds and a single fold away bed with un-spoilt views over the marsh. This room also benefits from an en-suite shower room with marsh views.

Outdoors

The cottage has a fully enclosed south-facing and quiet garden, the site of many relaxing holiday evenings after exploring historical sites, walking the marsh, and playing in the waves. The beach is just steps away over the seawall, with a paved boardwalk spanning its length for easy walks and jogs

Throughout 2021 and 2023 the Environment Agency (EA) will be working on improving the existing coastal defences between Jury's Gap and Dungeness and so will be utilising the compound to the right of the cottages (the area with the green containers on the photo) this will mean that the construction vehicles will be using the promenade to access the ranges on the MOD land.

A couple of things
All pans were huge, they need sensible sized saucepans. And the windows were filthy and it was hard to see the view. Otherwise great house.

Comfortable holiday let
The comfort, design, furnishing and cleanliness is very good. The actual fabric of the cottage needs some TLC. Big stain on the ceiling of the lounge from a previous leak in the bathroom, very rattly and a bit rotten windows, Very rusted door handles on the front door (do appreciate its by the sea!), a number of cracks in various places, definitely general painting. Its well managed for sure and the bathroom and kitchen is all good. Its cute for 2 or 4 people but you would have to get on very well to have 7. The location is a bit more 'industrial' than I thought it would be with the Environment Agency storage depot next door and the barbed wire fence for the military base. The heating is good and fire makes it cosy. I think I saw a previous review that the fresh ground coffee is a nice touch and that some salt and pepper would be appreciated. Really small thing which I agree with. Comfortable stay and OK value for this low season. Feel cottage needs some TLC to make the high season prices seem a less top heavy but then if people continue to pay and stay then probably unlikely to happen!

Peace reigned
A comfortable cottage, warm with books. Sadly next to a construction compound that started work at 7am. It is an ideal family summer roost, I would have liked more light in the kitchen area - a new bulb needed above the sink. And being short, using the microwave was a little tricky. We enjoyed our stay and of course the nearby beach is stunning. Thank you

Relaxed coastal break
Lovely cottage to spend a week away at. Well equipped for cooking and nicely positioned a little outside Camber with a beautiful sandy beach right on the doorstep. Booking process was all very smooth and well organised. Definitely recommend and would visit again.

Great little Seaside get away!
We wanted to stay right beside the sea for a short break over half-term and this cottage delivered! The welcome book (on-line) is really clear about how to get in and what to do, etc. so on arrival we turned up, got the key and in we went, to be greeted by a beautiful loaf of lemon cake (sooo good!) and a lovely bottle of Prosecco. The cottage is traditional in appearance and had nice pictures, etc. on the walls. The heating system is a Nest and is so simple to use if we were cold. We didn't use the log burner as wasn't really cold enough but can imagine the heat it pumps out when using it! All facilities you need are there, from great WiFi, Coffee Manchine and even Washing Machine. It is so close to the beach, you can hear the waves crashing on the rocks at high tide. Walks on the beach and the sea defences were brilliant at blowing the cobwebs away either early in the morning, during the day or late at night in the dark! The local area, especially Rye, is lovely and well worth a visit. Day trip to Dover Castle and Canterbury were no problems from here. Highly recommend and should we choose to visit this part of the world again, we will look to stay here!
