An absolutely beautiful cottage set in a lovely rural setting. It's very close to Hadrian's wall, the Sycamore Gap, Vindolanda and other local areas of interest. We had a peaceful few days here with everything we needed. Thoroughly recommend the cottage as a place to stay and get away from it all.
We enjoyed our week in this comfortable and well equipped cottage on a farm. Near to the best preserved sections of Hadrian's Wall and Roman forts. Peaceful and relaxing.
The location of Gibbs Hill Farm is amazing. It is located on a large farm and is very quiet and very beautiful and catered to our needs. The property is clean and comfortable. Valerie, the owner, is very friendly and we enjoyed our chats with her. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to the area.

Seemed so remote when we got there, but by the time we left, was home. Wonderful area closed to many historical sites, museums and delicious restaurants. The surrounding area such peaceful beautiful country. Being spring, lambing season in full swing. Aemory never to be forgotten.

Thank you for saying how much you enjoyed your stay on our farm on the Roman Wall. We loved meeting you both and our chats in the cottage. We will always have happy memories of your visit to Gibbshill.
We had a very relaxing 4 day break in this beautiful stone cottage, a mile off the main road near Hadrians Wall, on a farm that practices environmental care and organic stewardship under the Green Tourism Business scheme. The cottage was very clean and very comfortable with a new shaker modern style kitchen, so very easy to make a simple meal. The bed was super comfortable in a roomy upstairs bedroom. Valerie the host is a warm and helpful host who welcomed us upon arrival to ensure we were well informed about the property. We were very sad to leave after four heavenly days. The remote location is a real plus. It allows you to decompress and observe a pace of life for which we should have more appreciation.

Thank you for your kind words. We loved having you stay, and we look forward to seeing you again
The property is at a farm in a windswept valley. Hadrian's Wall is close by and Vindalanda is only two miles away - we cycled there. It seems remote because there is no mobile phone signal and tv is limited to terrestrial channels. We wished we had brought some dvds because we did not fancy driving in the evenings along single-track country roads.

Thank you for your response. We have many DVDs to choose from and I have put a note in the cottage information. There is mobile phone access through the WIFI
At first we saw a house away from everything...... But then we saw it as a lovely place away from everything, and loved it for exactly that.
The owner is very friendly and loves to talk about his farm and his animals.
At first there was 40 minutes of walk to the bus, but after a short while, it was ONLY 40 minutes of walk I this lively countryside.
Easy access to the wall. Go left or right along it, and You get a stunning view of the area.
If ever we come back to Northumberland, we will live at this great place and these nice people.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are glad you loved our cottage and the area and we hope to see you again.
Omdat wij geen bevestiging kregen van deze reservering, hebben wij een andere locatie geboekt. Wij hebben echter wel onze aanbetaling gedaan en die is tot op heden niet teruggestort ondanks ons herhaaldelijk verzoek daartoe.
A very pleasant cottage in a delightful setting. Good communication all round with our host. A great touring and walking base. Fuller prior instructions on finding the cottage by road would be helpful; initially our satnav could not locate it!
Lovely stay with our puppy in a remote setting close to Hadrian’s wall.
Property was cosy with the wood burner lit .
Ideal for walking and visiting Vindolanda and Housesteads Fort.
Facilities were adequate but no shops close by so tea and milk when we arrived would have been welcome ! WiFi poor.

Thank you for your response . We were advised not to provide food items during the pandemic, but as soon as everything settles we will provide a welcome tray.
Set in the grounds of a working farm, this has been the most restful and peaceful stay. Plenty of interesting Roman sites just on the doorstep and Dark Skies status for astronomers too.
Cosy accommodation, everything needed for a restful stay. Lovely, friendly hosts who made us very welcome. Friendly cats to keep you company whilst sat out on the patio in the sun.
Truly never slept so well - it was the most relaxed I’ve been in years!
It’s a long way from we’re we live but really hoping to return for another restful break some day. Thank you for making this little bit of heaven available.

Small clean cozy cottage in beautiful location. Mind the low ceilings upstairs but has beautiful views. Shower space difficult to use…very little space.
Wonderful spot for those who are exploring the Best parts of the Roman Wall by Steel Rig, lovely place thanks to Valerie for a lovely stay

We are the 5th generation to farm at GibbsHill. My son David is the farmer and lives in a cottage nearby. I also live on site .
Why they chose this property
We farm in a very traditional way, carrying, sheep and cattle, and we are very involved in Countryside Stewardship scheme.. We farm in a very environmental way. We have a Wild Flower meadow at Greenlee Farm which is beautiful in summer.
What makes this property unique
Wonderful walking country. Very peaceful with lots of wild animals .Greenlee nature reserve is on our land and offers unique Bird Watching. Hadrians Wall runs within walking distance, and all the Roman sites are only 5 mins away by car, We may live on a remote hill farm, but the little town of Haltwhistle is only 10 mins away, and it has an excellent range of shops. Hexham with its beautiful gardens, Abbey and River Tyne is 25 mins by car. We are very central and you can visit Carlisle, Durham, the Coast, Gretna Green, within 1 hour. There are 2 National Trust Properties only 45 mins away. If you wish to experience a truly authentic Northumbrian way of life, then please visit us.
