Lovely cottage, well equipped and warm, in a great position for visiting York and the surroundings.
Lovely cottage, well equipped and warm, in a great position for visiting York and the surroundings. Very friendly and welcoming host. Christmas lights in grounds and tree in the house.
Looking for flexible accommodation for six, ranging in age from 14-80, as a hub to visit York, the coast and family and we hit the jackpot! Hopgrove cottages provided us with a vacation within a vacation. After a busy day of exploring we came back to something for everyone. A well equipped games room, a field for outdoor games, a walking path with regular deer sightings and a large comfortable living space. Host respected our privacy, and responded quickly when needed. Would definitely reccommend a stay at Hopgrove Farm Family Cottages.

A great place to stay for families, and great value for money if you want somewhere within easy reach of the attractions of York. Big Barn itself though is showing high signs of wear and tear (loose headboards, faded wallpaper, cracked floor tiles) and could probably do with a refresh. I also didn’t like the en-suite shower as the door opening was very narrow and was cumbersome to get in and out of.The overall facilities could also do with a refresh, the games room for example was just a pool table (50p pieces only), a well-used dartboard and some ransoms CDs, DVDs and other bits. It’d also be great to have a little book when you arrive, showing where all the facilities on-site are, as well as other useful information. That said, the owners were extremely friendly and only a phone call away.

Really great location for getting into York.
Really great location for getting into York. Handy in car, park and ride or public transport. Owner was very helpful as he had grown up on this farm and had lots of local knowledge. Big Barn was like being at home - best stocked kitchen I have ever used in a rental. Jacuzzi and sauna were amazing. Kids loved it. Very safe for families with children of all ages. Games room was great and we met other families stopping in the other farm buildings. Would definitely book again.

Ideally located for the park and ride at Monks Cross, and for travelling further afield.
Ideally located for the park and ride at Monks Cross, and for travelling further afield.
A reasonably comfortable cottage with loads of hot water always available, also a warm cottage when required.
Downside was that it needed some decorating, as it looked somewhat tired and a freshen up is needed. Also the covers on the settee and easy chairs needed a clean. The kitchen sink taps were very stiff to operate.
Generally though, would definitely use the Big Barn again.
