Wonderfully located on the slopes of Rydal Fell, and approximately ¾ mile from the centre of Grasmere village, The Old Coach House is a comfortable and traditionally furnished apartment. Set within Wood Close, a large Victorian, stone-built country house which is divided into several independent properties, The Old Coach House has been refurbished to a high standard and offers many modern amenities and facilities while retaining its traditional character and charm.

The spacious living/dining room looks out over the gardens from the panoramic windows, and is furnished with a sofa, easy chairs and farmhouse dining table and chairs. There is a large-screen Smart TV, comprehensive sound system and a wide selection of local books, information guides, walking maps and board games. From the terrace, there are dramatic views of Grasmere lake and Loughrigg Fell. There is a small, unfenced pond and stream in the grounds, which is home to red squirrels and many species of birds, and where wild deer are also occasional visitors. Each apartment has its own allocated parking space, with private parking for 1 car specifically for visitors to The Old Coach House.

This homely holiday apartment retains all of its traditional charm for a peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable holiday in the heart of the Lake District. It is an excellent base for walking, with easy access to the fells, Alcock Tarn, and the famous ‘Coffin Route’ directly from the garden. There is a gentle downhill walk to Grasmere village (passing William Wordsworth’s home at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Grasmere centre on the way), and from there are easy routes to both the lower and upper slopes of the village’s surrounding fells. In the village, you will find an attractive selection of bars and restaurants, and a wide variety of shops, including a small supermarket, post office, newsagent, chemist, baker, outdoor equipment retailers, gift and art shops, a garden centre and the famous Grasmere gingerbread shop. The graves of the poet William Wordsworth and his family are situated in St. Oswald’s parish churchyard. Ambleside, 4 miles, and Keswick, 13 miles, offer a range of further shops, attractions and amenities, and there are several historic houses and gardens locally. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Our stay in the old coach was very comfortable and highly relaxing.
Our stay in the old coach was very comfortable and highly relaxing. The location is fantastic with the mountains at your fingertips. Grasmere is a beautiful little village with some of the best gingerbread we have ever tasted. Chris and Penny has clearly paid special attention to the details and have made the coach house a wonderful place for walkers and lovers for the lakes to stay and all very a reasonable price! We have been staying a The Old Coach House for many years due its location, with walks onto the fells and into beautiful Grasmere from the door. A vast garden with deer and red squirrels to be seen added to the attraction. The new owners have made stunning improvements, modernising it without losing the charm of the old building. It is far better better equipped than many other holiday lets we have stayed in with thoughtful touches that certainly make it a home from home. Everything provided is top quality from the furniture, soft furnishings, kitchen utensils etc. I was impressed by the thoughtful addition of a dog supplies box in the porch along with coat warmer/boot dryer wrack. I enjoyed topping up the bird feeders with the seed etc supplied and spent a rainy afternoon watching them. Christmas decorations and the bottle of wine also very welcome. The Old Coach House is a beautiful, cosy appartment in a stunning location.
