This imposing Grade II listed property, one of a row, is over two hundred years old and was originally the headmaster of Pickering School’s house. It oozes charm, character and elegance with a mix of antique and reproduction furnishing and original art work. Ther are also mullion windows in keeping with its period. Whitby is about 23 miles; the seaside town of Scarborough and the pretty fishing town of Filey are easily reached. The cobbled streets of the market town of Pickering are a 5-minute stroll, with castle, museum, church, steam railway, trout farm, theatre, swimming pool, bars and restaurants. Golf, fishing, cycling and bridle paths locally. Shops 200 yards, pub 150 yards.

Simply superb

The house exceeded our expectations. It is ideally located for walking into the town centre, even for me with limited mobility. We loved its period charm, large rooms, tasteful decoration and furniture. We especially enjoyed sitting in the conservatory watching the birds in the garden, and chilling at night watching one of the large screen tvs that had a huge range of channels. We hope to book again for next year and can thoroughly recommend.

Wonderful house in a perfect location.There was 10 of us and because of the space we didn’t feel as though we were on top of each other. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen equipment was absolutely brilliant, I have never been in a holiday home with so much crockery !

Two supermarkets,pubs and town centre all within 5 mins walk. Sometimes difficult to park outside property do to number of vehicles. Owners were very responsive to queries. We had a wonderful week in Hallgarth House in the heart of Pickering. It is such a warm and welcoming family property to say it is so big. The period features are married in with modern touches and the latest refurb was such a bonus when we arrived! The kitchen was so well stocked with everything you would need for day to day living and it made having our 2 young children with us an easier task. Additional Covid-secure items put in place were appreciated such as hand gel, dispensers & hand soap in every bathroom. So pleased to discover availability last minute for a much needed break away. The street parking was sometimes a bit of a hassle to get a space nearby but worked out fine most days in the end just keeping an eye out the window later in the evening and fetching the car closer quickly. Loved staying here the house is beautiful and has everything you can think of, my only criticism if you can call it that is the mattresses on the two double beds need replacing as they are not comfortable, otherwise we love it and will absolutely be back xx

There were 10 of us and there was plenty of space and equipment .Would recommend to all our friends for a fabulous weekend .The location is ideal once you have parked your car you can walk into Pickering in a few minutes. The house has a lovely feeling like it's embracing you we all felt at home.It is also an ideal location for exploring the local area .
