Great peaceful location set in stunning grounds.
Great peaceful location set in stunning grounds.Accomodation overall very good. The four poster bed is a nice touch.Quite a distance from shops but we knew that when we booked. Great base for exploring the borders area.
The cottage is in a courtyard of a small stately home but it is really quiet and peaceful. We saw a deer in the grounds at dusk and were hoping to see otter or badgers (there were footprints). Plenty of swans and even nesting cormorants in the trees. The property has everything you need ... plenty of kitchen equipment if you wish to cook in, warm and cosy and a lovely area to visit.

Lovely location.
Over all it was very good , with a couple of not very important issues. On arriving we had no way of knowing where the key would be. The shower in one room was broken. This was rectified by the Housekeeper.

We enjoyed our time at the cottage and this was our second visit to Mellerstain, the first visit being to the Clock House cottage.
The cottage was very comfortable despite Covid changes. The only downside for the ladies in the party was using the induction hob which they did Not enjoy.

The cottage is beautifully situated in the grounds of Mellerstain House and I can honestly offer no criticism of the property itself - it is clean, well laid out, comfortable and above all spacious.
I would like to add that the grounds of the house are beautiful and well kept - even in the rain the walk around the grounds was pleasant and peaceful and without disappointment.
Be back soon......

We loved the setting and the surrounding gardens.
We loved the setting and the surrounding gardens. The cottage was ideal for our group although the kitchen was not a good layout for cooking a meal for six. We could have done with a facility to dry clothes, perhaps a tumble dryer. In spite of that we had a great week and have recommended it to others. We hope to have a return visit.

Our March stay at Mellerstain's Courtyard Cottage was a great experience.
Our March stay at Mellerstain's Courtyard Cottage was a great experience. We chose the location because it was dog friendly. We had such a good time exploring the glorious gardens and grounds. Blessed with a sunny weekend our stay was enhanced by seeing some of the wildlife on the estate and visiting some of our favourite Borders villages, towns, shops and craft/art Galleries

A very peaceful location at Mellerstain House, one of the great Adam houses.
A very peaceful location at Mellerstain House, one of the great Adam houses. Kelso is fairly close and it makes a good base for discovering the Border country. Our only complaint was that there is no shower in the main bathroom, only a bath. A shower fitted above the bath would be a worthwhile investment.
