About this property

Waterfall Cottage in sight & sound of Cane Creek Falls, 2BR 2BA

Our Waterfall Cottage is a 2BR/2BA vacation home within sight and sound of the iconic 50 ft tall Cane Creek Falls. Large screened porch, wood-burning fireplace, WiFi and more on Cane Creek. It is located in the very unique and special location inside the several hundred acre Glisson Camp and Retreat Center. There is a small enclave of privately owned cottages, which are accessible at all times. Ours is the second one downstream at the base of the falls. A large screened porch with dining table and comfortable seating area and other viewing areas will give you the sense of really being with nature as the cottage is about fifty feet from Cane Creek. Lots on either side are vacant and Falls Mountain is behind the cottage. It has two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed and two full baths, fireplace (operational October through March) & we supply Duraflame 3 hour logs (1 per night), free WiFi, Smart TV via Amazon Fire TV stick with YouTube TV, Hulu, Netflix & Prime Video, land-line phone with unlimited USA long distance (cell service is spotty), lower covered deck with porch swing. Breakfast is not provided, but we do provide coffee and all the basic needs for cooking. There are no dishwasher or laundry facilities. We provide camp chairs for you to take to sit by the falls. We have a BBQ and provide charcoal. Cane Creek is a designated trout stream and is now open year-round, but you must have a valid Georgia license to fish. We use the Waterfall Cottage as our own get-away when not rented and thoroughly enjoy spending time there. There are hiking trails all around the camp and maps are located on signs at the welcome center and downstream of the cottage, and you can also check out our hikedahlonega web site that has numerous other hikes / waterfall hikes listed with maps and directions . The falls area is rich in history as a Native American gathering place with netting holes and petroglyphs etched in the rocks by the falls. It was also the site of a very early large water wheel electric generating plant. Much of the time you will find the cottage to be a very quiet and peaceful get-away. The camp does have retreats many weekends, but the main buildings and their cabins are not located near our cottage with the exception of the Program Center, which was designed after the gold mining structures of Dahlonega’s history.

It is about 5 minutes from the Dahlonega Square.

Some things for you to consider before renting this very special cottage: 1. Strictly limited to four people maximum including children, 2. absolutely no pets, 3. absolutely no smoking anywhere either inside the cottage or outside as the camp is tobacco free, 4. the parking area is about 90 yards from the cottage – you park and then walk toward the falls and then across the foot bridge in front of the falls and then up a path 5. two night minimum with some holidays requiring 3 niights. There are about 10 private cottages along the creek inside the 400 acre Methodist owned Camp Glisson Retreat Center. In the last week in May, June and July there are youth summer camp sessions from Sunday afternoon until Friday noon. The camp owns the falls, creek and hiking trails. We ask that guests give young campers their space while enjoying the outdoors during organized activities Sunday afternoon through Friday morning during the last week in May through July. Friday afternoon through Sunday morning during this period there are no children in camp, only the camp counselors. We have 2 exterior security camera aimed at the cottage door and the lower deck. There are no interior cameras. We turn the cameras on went the cottage is vacant. We turn on the cottage door camera until guests check in so we know they have arrived safely. We then turn it off.

The falls cabin
Tucked nicely on a hill near the beautiful Dahlonega Falls. The rushing water was more impressive than we expected and soothing for a restful stay We’re in our 70’s so the trek with luggage was quite a task fortunately we’re both in good health And active. The kitchen had everything we needed. The layout was typical of a small cabin with walkthrough bedrooms one of the showers was very slippery so we used the master shower for safety in summary it was a good stay.

Great place to stay
We stayed here in early April of 24. I'd been to Camp Glisson a while back (maybe when Nixon was President?), and remembered how pretty the falls are. The cabin is new-looking inside. I'd guess it has had a fairly recent remodel. The grounds are quite beautiful. This is the second cabin down from the base of the falls, and you have a very good view of the falls. The view is excellent from the chairs outside, and very good from several vantage points inside. The cabin was very clean inside. A previous reviewer had mentioned bugs. We only saw an ant during our visit, and of course, we could have brought it in with our ;luggage or groceries. The mattresses are very firm (not a criticism, but a description). Overall, a really great place to stay.. The only things I'd recommend are: 1. Better mark the slight step from the living room to the first bedroom. Each of us tripped over it. 2. Label a few more of the light switches. 3. Include a note in the Owner's cookbook that copies can be purchased at the Visitors center in Dahlonega. We only found it by happenstance.

Great location misleading info on house, cameras and roaches
We stayed here with another couple. Thank goodness we are family or it would have been awkward to walk through one bedroom to have to get to the other. That should be in bold print on their information . We were also all creeped out that there were cameras all over the outside of the house. I am fairly certain there is a law now that they are not allowed to have those without putting it on their information. It was creepy and made us look closely inside the house thinking there could be cameras inside as well. The cabin was clean; however, there were roaches in the kitchen and the bathroom. Also, when you walk in the front door you see a giant rodent trap outside the door. It is a great location with a beautiful waterfall and the discription was accurate regarding the walk from the parking lot I wouldn’t stay there again ever.

Tim & Dianne Quigley owned Long Mountain Lodge B&B for 15 years, selling it in July 2021. We moved to Dahlonega in 1993 and fell in love with the town and area after living in 12 different states due to military and corporate moves. This is now home. We have three children and nine grandchildren!

Why they chose this property

We could not resist buying this property due to its amazing location.

What makes this property unique

We don't know of any property you can rent that is so close to a large waterfall with large pool below for wading & fishing and a rushing creek in front of the cottage. Deer and other wildlife abound and we have vacant wooded lots on either side. It is so quiet most of the time.
