About this property
Wollemi Retreat
Tucked away on 100 acres of native bushland, Wollemi Retreat offers a secluded eco-escape on the edge of Wollemi National Park. This award-winning retreat accommodates up to six guests and is perfect for a weekend getaway surrounded by nature. Powered primarily by solar energy with grid backup and supplied with spring-fed, filtered water, it’s a peaceful sanctuary where you can truly disconnect and unwind.
The natural environment is the star of the show at Wollemi Retreat. The property operates on solar power with grid support and features a filtration system that purifies water from a natural spring on the property. At every turn, the landscape is thoughtfully incorporated into the guest experience.
Kick back with a glass of delicious locally produced red wine in the lounge, a modern open-plan space with a double-sided wood-burning fireplace to add an extra touch of rustic charm and a warm glow on those winter nights. Let time stand still as you enjoy the sweeping views of the nearby mountain ranges including famous Wheelbarrow Mountain through the floor-to-ceiling glass.
Thanks to the vast windows, you can even take in the breathtaking views as you lounge in bed or soak in the elegant freestanding bath in the main bedroom’s ensuite bathroom where there is also a relaxing overhead rainfall shower.
Stroll out onto the expansive deck area to the front of the house where you can sink into the comfortable lounge chairs as you spot the resident kangaroos across the lawns. The best time to see them is early morning or around dusk. There’s also a jacuzzi set into the decking which bubbles away at a toasty forty degrees with plenty of space to fit up to six people. Filled with filtered water from our spring, it really is the perfect spot to take in the serenity.
Feeling peckish? Gather some fresh rosemary, basil or coriander from the herb garden, then rustle up a meal using fine local produce in the ultra-modern kitchen featuring a SMEG oven and cooktop. The kitchen is fully equipped for those with a passion for cookery and comes complete with espresso machine and juicer for those morning cravings. Prefer to eat al fresco? Then fire up the barbecue or head over to the stone wood-fired pizza oven.
Chances are you may not want to leave the idyllic surrounds of Wollemi Retreat, but if you do decide to venture further afield, there are plenty of things to do. Head into nearby Rylstone, a heritage village with charming boutiques and producers where you can stock up on goodies to take back to the house.
A little further is Mudgee with its fabulous wineries. There are more than 40 family-owned cellar doors to visit so take a wine tour if you are unsure where to start. It’s a great place to eat too, with fine dining restaurants, plenty of wine bars, pubs and a vibrant café culture.
Nature lovers will enjoy exploring Dunns Swamp, or Ganguddy as it is increasingly known. This pocket of the UNESCO World Heritage Wollemi National Park is set on a tranquil waterway on the Cudgegong River, surrounded by pretty woodlands and striking rock formations. Pause here for a swim, hop in a canoe or do a little fishing. There are also number of easy walks here which offer great views and the chance to spot wildlife like wallabies or purple swamp hens or even long-necked turtles and platypus.
Whatever your passion, you’ll have the opportunity to reconnect with nature, yourself and your companions in this untouched wilderness during a stay at Wollemi Retreat.

The kitchen has everything you could possibly need even more than expected! The property offers generous space, and the rooms are clean and comfortable.Just a note: in summer, there can be some flies and bugs around. We were lucky to enjoy a beautiful full moon during our stay, although it was so bright that it outshone the stars. If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway, this place is an excellent choice.Denny was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay!
Great hosts, very informative sending plenty of information before arrival. Beautiful open plan house with heaps of sunshine, we spent most of our time in the unique bushland on the property with rocky escarpments and a running stream spotting wildlife such as wombats, kangaroos and lots of birdlife. We would recommend this stay to anyone looking to unwind.
We stayed at Wollemi retreat and it was incredible. The location is absolutely stunning and the house is beautiful with a spa overlooking the beautiful country. A truly memorable weekend. We highly recommend it.
We spent the New Year period at Wollemi Retreat and it was nothing short of amazing. We were also able to stay in the brand new cabins which were perfect for a large group- there was plenty of room for families and their kids- and those without kids had the privacy and their own space in the cabins. We had no issues whatsoever, our stay couldn’t have been better! Denny was extremely helpful leading up to the booking with recommendations and helpful tips as well as during our stay for any questions we had.
It’s been weeks since our stay and we’re all still talking about how much fun we had!

Beautiful house in 100 acres pristine land
Great accommodation with quality furnishings, beds, kitchen equipment and layout of rooms. Unfortunately one drawcard - the outside spa, was beautifully positioned under the night sky, but broke during our stay. The owner was very quick to respond to try to fix it - but unsuccessfully unfortunately. I recommend also that the quality of the water in the spa be checked every couple of days with instructions as to how to optimise chemically. Otherwise a perfect family or couples retreat in an ecofriendly designer house.
My partner and I and our two small dogs had a great time. Beautiful views, we enjoyed being in the bush, we had kangaroos on the grass each morning and we spotted a wombat one night! We also enjoyed the abundance of birds. The outdoor spa and fireplace were a bonus. We went into Mudgee & Gulgong and would highly recommend doing this. Would definitely come back again.
We stayed here for a week and had a relaxing time
We received a nice list of things to do and see well in advanced - made planning activities a lot easier
Great stay all round
Fantastic property and location. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Stunning scenery. The house had everything we needed. Lots of games to keep the kids entertained. Loved the spa and the wood fire stove kept us cosy and warm. Wish we could have stayed longer!
We had a lovely relaxing stay at the retreat. Pizza oven was fun and easy to use. Loved the deck spa and the bath tub. Would love to come back, perhaps with more friends as it was a bit pricey for just 3 of us.
This was a lovely modern house with all the mod cons and could comfortably sleep 6 guests.
It was lovely and quiet and nice for a few days to get away from it all.
This property is clearly a labour of love for its owner. It would take a great deal of time, labour and attention to detail to create a property like this in such a remote location.
I visited for 3 nights in August with my husband, 3 primary school aged children and 2 small dogs (we were meant to visit in April, however had to reschedule due to COVID). The property is well set up for a very comfortable family holiday. The setting is spectacular. The house captures views from every side. The furnishings are very comfortable and good quality. The living room couch is so comfortable you could sleep on it! The spa outside is wonderful and it is in the best spot to look at the view.
The kitchen is well-appointed and the BBQ is excellent plus it is undercover. The kitchen has a gas stove and oven, a good amount of crockery and lots of utensils/kitchen tools. There is a toaster, coffee machine, stove kettle and blender. The wood fired oven makes terrific meals and is also a great family activity.
It was cold and wet during our visit. The wood heater is very effective - we only needed to use the gas heater a little until the wood heater kicked in. The bed sheets are excellent quality and the doonas are very warm. The stand alone bath in the master ensuite has a gorgeous bush view.
We needed to fiddle around a bit with the generator and also needed to change over the gas tanks and re-light hot water pilot light while we were there. There isn’t much daylight at this time of year so solar power was in limited supply. But these things were not any great burden to us and the owner was extremely responsive to any queries. The spa and dishwasher (which both use significant amounts of power) both worked well. The internet also worked without incident. I am surprised that the property had so many features, given its remote location.
There are lots of animals on the property and if you take the time to go walking, there is a good likelihood you will see some animals. The kids found this especially fun.
The only thing I would suggest adding is a small desk somewhere, perhaps along the empty wall in the bedroom with bunks in it, if you need to do a spot of work or want to engage in writing or some such other activity.
All in all, a wonderful spot and an extremely comfortable property with many mod cons. Perfect for a quiet getaway, a romantic holiday or some family time. Thank you for a terrific holiday.
Wollemi Retreat is the perfect getaway. Peaceful and isolated (but not too isolated), the scenery and surrounding bush is restorative and dramatic. The house is super comfortable, well provisioned and stylishly appointed. More than that though, the house is fun with the outdoor spa bath, fire pit and deep bath with floor to ceiling windows looking into bush! And we didn’t even get to to the pizza oven! Rylstone has lots of charm, with retro record stores, divine wool shop and the best yum cha we’ve ever had at the Rylstone tea house! It was a great 4 days.
My friends and I really enjoyed the three nights we spent at the property. Everything went really smoothly with the checkin and the house was absolutely amazing! We’d happily stay there again!
Stunning location matched by eco house of incredible standard thankfully spared by recent fires adding to the drama of the setting. Great communication and info throughout booking. I’ll be back
A relaxing place to spend some time with family and being away from all the noises and problems in the city. Very clean and quiet place and importantly comes with a spectacular view.
This location was incredible. The area gives a breath of fresh air compared to the noisy nature of city life and the local wildlife definitely helps define the atmosphere. Would highly recommend this location to people who wish to get away from the world and relax. I only ever had 1 issue with the venue and that was figuring out how the dishwasher worked XD. The owner was incredible at making sure our stay was perfect, texting us everyday asking if there were any issues and taking interest in what me and my friends had been up to. That kind of service really changes the experience felt on holidays. So my final note to people reading this review is to get out to this place so that you can experience a peaceful and relaxing get away from the rest of the busy world.
I wish I could give this property in excess of 5 stars.
I had searched for the right birthday location for ages, my main criteria being luxury and comfort with total privacy in a natural setting. Wollemi Eco-Retreat provided all of that, and more. I read the instructions carefully so there were no surprises, including the need to bring all our own supplies. Denny was a breeze to communicate with, responding quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
It was such a relief to lock the property gate and know that it was all ours for 4 nights. The house is perfect for families or a group of friends. We were 2 couples so having 2 bathrooms worked well. Mine had the luxury bath with the huge picture window from where I watched the full moon rise through the trees. Hard to get better than that. The third bedroom has bunk beds (double and a single) so not quite as luxurious as the other two rooms but perfectly adequate.
The outdoor area was brilliant with lots of space and a big, comfy lounge. The fire pit had been replaced with a coffee table, presumable because of the fire hazard in these drought conditions. Didn’t worry us as we had a few nights in front of the amazing indoor combustion fire which was easy to manage and magical to watch. It took a bit of effort to collect kindling from around the property but that gave us an opportunity to see the beautiful rock formations and creek bed up close.
The natural landscape and wildlife around this property is the thing that makes it so unique. I don’t spend much time in nature so it was everything to be able to lay back in the spa or on the comfy sofa indoors and see an expanse of rocks and trees, and wildlife – hundreds of birds including a family of 4 lyre birds, kangaroos and wallabies with their joeys, an echidna, and a wombat and her baby. A map of the actual property may have been useful as we had no luck finding the Aboriginal rock art … but then again we didn’t try too hard as the spa was calling!
It was a truly beautiful, relaxing and rejuvenating escape from Sydney. Also we had the famous Rylestone dumplings on the way home. Seriously the best end to a birthday ever! I highly recommend Wollemi Eco-Retreat.

This property is very average indeed. It is highly overpriced. It is situated at the end on a 6 1/2 km dirt road. Bed linen and towels -cheap and rough. On arrival there was not a drop of milk in the fridge for the mandatory cuppa required by the weary traveller. No tissues, hair dryer or any indication of any ‘love’ input to the property. Snakes in the area were reported by a trades person after our arrival. The cupboards are full of old leftovers from previous visitors. All in all we felt duped and would not recommend it to anybody.
