Beautiful cottage with mountain views,- unique , private, treetop seclusion.
Built to provide the platform to take in the beautiful skyline. Constructed on poles allowing breathtaking views of the Waingawa river valley, and beyond into the Tararua range. Jumbo Hut is in plain view. Surrounded by native bush on three sides, and on the other by grazing animals belonging to the Mt Holdsworth Station. Many birds can be seen and heard close-in. You can find restful places for quiet contemplation not far from the cottage. This hideaway has been appreciated by many over time, and has been praised by guests as being comparable to a luxurious Kiwi bush hut. The Far Pavilion is entirely unique in its design, facilities, and overall rustic styling . Some visitors have spent periods here in solitary sojourns taking in the special ambience. We hope you'll find surprises that will bring delight. Deeply dark nights present clear, star filled skies with viewing of the passovers of the International Space Station if on schedule. If required, a 4WD Pajero is provided gratis for visitors, as the dwelling is situated up a non-hazardous, but 4WD only track , making its position even more isolated and secure for your peace and enjoyment. Please disclose on enquiry if you will need this 4WD . MUST BE 4WD for the journey up the hill. Your privacy during your stay will be carefully respected.. We do ask a couple of days grace to prepare for your visit.

Amazing cottage tucked away from the world. Getting back to nature is how my partner describes it. The native sounds, mixed with the falling rain and the fire burning was a step back in time. Will visit again. Cabin is cosy and loved the outdoor facilities
An ideal location for couples to get away for the weekend (or longer!) Privacy is unparalleled. The property was very clean and tidy. We enjoyed the 4WD adventure to get up the hill, as well as the open air bathroom and kitchen. Beautiful views from the balcony of the Tararua ranges. Thanks for an unforgettable stay!
Absolutely perfect setting, loved every moment. The Far Pavilion was fabulous and would highly recommend if you just want to switch off and get away from it all. Lovely place with stunning views.
Wonderfully presented and very quiet, it had everything we needed to have a break and recharge the batteries. Super friendly and helpful host. Would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting a bit of peace and quiet.
Beaut spot and friendly helpful hosts.
I will be keen to go back.
Nice proximity to the Swiss log cabin down the road for pizza. Five mins up the road to the Holdsworth Tararuas entrance, so great for day walks.
Extremely welcoming, gorgeous, secluded spot for the perfect getaway with our red heeler. Close to trails, large grassy area and loved the layout. I have fallen in love with this place and will definitely be back. And next time over a Friday so I can try the pizza nearby.
A homely little cottage with lovely mountain views that you can heat well with the wood burner - we greatly enjoyed unwinding in this private setting and daily hikes from Mt Holdsworth with our dogs in tow. Lovely relaxed property owners.
Great wee spot to zone out and chill. Love the outside (but well sheltered) kitchen - plan to come in winter too so can be out there during some beautiful tararua storm weather and have the fire roaring inside.
We had a wonderful long weekend stay at the Far Pavillion.
David and all the family were very welcoming checking us in and gave us plenty of privacy.
The property and surroundings are beautiful with everything you need provided. We loved the clear night skies, cosy wood burner and sitting out on the deck for breakfast and afternoon aperitifs!
We would love to come back again and highly recommend this property.
Beautiful place, stunning views. Loved driving the 4WD up the hill. Very cosy. David was except to commit with. You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, which is is exactly what we wanted. We will be back. Thanks for a memorable stay. X
The owners create a great impression even before you arrive at the cottage. Everything is super tidy and very well kept as you drive past the main house. The 4wd vehicle was ready and parked up with ample space to leave my own car. It’s a short ride up to the cottage where you arrive to equally well kept surroundings! The accommodation was excellent with so many small touches. Lovely bed, linen and towels. I truly enjoyed my stay and can’t wait to go again, especially in winter! Thank you for great communication too, Peter
Neat, private cottage with gorgeous views across farmland to the Tararua Range. While the main living space is warm with the fire and electric blankets, the fridge, oven and microwave are all outside on an unenclosed veranda. The eaves protect it from rain but it was freezing when we were there so cooking was a chore. This needs to be made much clearer in the listing. There is a sink and bench inside, and an electric crockpot you could bring in, so I guess you could make a stew fully inside.
Would be a magic spot in summer
A well-loved and quirky cottage with stunning views and lots of unexpected extras. The gated verandah let the dogs relax with us easily.Definitely a steep drive up - hence the 4WD, but well worth the effort. Will definitely be back.
I had such a lovely stay here with my dog. We travelled to do some walking in Mt Holdsworth and this little house was perfect. It was very private, had everything I could need, and the bed was sooo comfy. My dog had her own space outside so I didn’t need to worry about her overnight. Such a lovely stay - thank you :)
