Waihakeke-a rural getaway so close to town
Waihakeke Cottage, located on a small farm, is for those looking for stand alone modern accommodation away from town. During these times of potential Covid-19 risk we will be doing extra cleaning., and we'll be asking anyone who is unwell to think about coming to stay at a later date.
Our cottage was built in late 2015, and while adjacent to the main house, is private with fantastic rural views over farmland and towards the Tararua Range and Eastern Hills. Clean, and modern with double glazing for warmth in Winter; cool in Summer.
The swimming pool is available for our guests(seasonal). We've got lambs and calves in Spring, sometimes pigs, ducks and chickens. And always our 2 friendly labradors. A short 5 minute drive to fabulous shops and cafes in Greytown and Carterton, and 20 minutes to Martinborough. Go walking in the Tararuas, sample wines in Gladstone or Martinborough, bike on the rail trail in Greytown or on the country roads. Plenty to do or just relax taking in the views. We offer complimentary tea/coffee(Nespresso machine), some fresh home baking and eggs from our chickens. Special conditions: Ask about buying a dozen eggs from our chickens to take home-$5 a dozen subject to the chickens laying!! No smoking inside

The accommodation was brilliant and Nicole was super friendly and providing fresh bread and baking was an unexpected but hugely welcome bonus. My youngest loved the cows too!

Lovely place and great hosts. Above and beyond facilities and little touches, we would highly recommend.
This was an accessible property close to main road, but peaceful and very well provisioned. We enjoyed using this place as a base for visiting local Wairarapa towns.

A beautiful property and a great location. We really appreciated the hosts allowing our kids to feed the animals and have a swim in the pool.

Many thanks-lovely family and glad they enjoyed our farm and cottage.
It was wonderful. It was a late night arrival after a stormy drive and such a pleasant welcoming. Too cold to try the pool. We were greeted by the owners upon arrival and also saw them when leaving who were very pleasant to chat with, as was the dog that carried a rubber boot around. Everything was modern and easy to use. Of the highlights were the home made bread along with jam and fresh farm eggs left for us, and awaking to see lambs just outside the windows with cattle not far in the pasture. Would recommend to anyone seeking a rural stay in the area. Way better experience than a motel!

The best hostess! She left us fresh bread and cookies as well as farm fresh eggs! the area was beautiful with sheep pastures all around. the cottage was clean and everything updated! Wonderful stay!
Serenity is the perfect description for the lovely home to stay in. We were greeted by a gorgeous four legged girl with a red band gumboot as a welcome gift. Meeting the owner was like meeting a old family member. Having the home baked bread, fresh eggs, and homemade jam along with Tea Leaf tea was a winner. Its a great place to stay, we are coming back.
We had a lovely weekend at this property. Very peaceful and quiet and not far if you want to escape Wellington. Nicole is a great host and very accommodating. Will definitely return.
What a lovely place and hosts. The home made bread and biscuits were so yummy yummy and the freshly laid eggs for breakfast were wonderful. We stay again 😊
We enjoyed this farm experience, with all the comforts of home, beautiful rural scenery, peaceful and quiet, with a lovely welcome of fresh bread, farm eggs and home-made biscuits.
Nice property, and good location between Greytown and Carterton, with peaceful views of sheep in the paddocks, and of hills beyond. Set back from SH2, so easy to find, but not noisy. Lovely friendly family hosting, and fresh home baking and eggs were a real treat. Kids enjoyed the books, board games, and fort in the garden 😀
We really enjoyed our stay. The lovely hosts greeted us, gave us fresh bread, cookies and milk. The house was well set up for families and the kids loved the toys and pool! The beds were comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the friendly labradors and looking out to see the cows and farmland
Nicole and Dr. Dave were fabulous hosts. Fresh farm eggs and homemade bread and biscuits = fantastic.
The swimming pool was incredible. Fabulously maintained.
Nicole is a great host. Lovely fresh bread and eggs provided as well as homemade biscuits! Property ticks all the boxes. Beds were comfortable & everything supplied that we needed. Swimming pool was welcome on a hot afternoon. Dogs were lovely and added to the charm.
Hi, We've been enjoying this beautiful spot between Carterton and Greytown for about 10 years. We've got 4 boys, and a farm of sheep and beef which keeps us busy. We've travelled quite a bit overseas and in New Zealand but love to return to our peaceful spot with rural views.
Why they chose this property
We built this cottage for family to visit and decided to open it up to other visitors for them to enjoy what we see every day-mountains, paddocks, our animals, and open spaces. Our place has is on a working farm but close to the town.
What makes this property unique
Rural views to the Tarauas and Eastern Hills, on a farm. At times visitors can help with animals or farm activities. The swimming pool is great to cool off after a hot Wairarapa day.
